Matthew glanced inside and realized that Dolores was probably here too.
However, Armandâs heart burned with a desire to gossip. Had Matthew lent his car to someone?
âA guy or a woman?â Armand walked over and winked at Matthew, âArenât you trying to get your ex-wife back? Whatâs with the sudden change of preferences?â
âFuck you!â Matthew gave him a sidelong glance.
Boyce smiled, âWhy are you like this, why do you keep behaving so childishly?â
âYouâre behaving childishly!â Armand jumped on Boyceâs back and threw his arms around his neck, âHey, have you seen your ex-wife?â
Boyce nodded sincerely, âYes.â
Matthew got married six years ago. Actually, it was a secret marriage and not one that Matthew wanted. He didnât introduce himself to her. At the time, he was very busy during the promotion period. Soon, Matthew was divorced and didnât get a chance to meet her.
If Abbott had not contacted him for help that day, he would never have seen her.
Abbott had told her that Matthew now seemed to care about his ex-wife, but he also understood why he had begun to care about her.
It had to be because of the children.
The other day, he had seen Samuel, who looked to be about five or six years old; the chronology fit.
gⱯlnÏνð®ðsï¹ð¬ððº, the heart of fiction As we entered the Join & Share Farm, there were pavilions and kiosks everywhere. Red lanterns illuminated the winding hallway leading to the lobby.
As soon as he entered, a waiter approached.
âMr. Bernie?â
âYes.â Armand had naturally used his name when booking the place.
âPlease follow me!â The waiter stepped forward and led them to a private room.
The room was very spacious, with sandalwood table and chairs carved with intricate patterns that made the ambiance classic and antique.
The private parlors here were different from those in other places. They were not really rooms, but long hallways separated into small rooms by screens. Each screen had a different design for each room.
The waiter handed him the menu and Armand quickly took it, âIâll order the dishes since I know how to eat.â
Boyce clicked his tongue and smiled.
Armand narrowed his eyes at him, âWhat the hell are you smiling about?â.
âHow do you call yourself a highly educated and sophisticated lawyer, but you canât even speak in a civilized manner?â
âI have to behave at work all day. This is my personal time; canât I loosen up a little; are any of you as tired as I am?â
âOh, fuck off!â Boyce didnât bother to answer him. He opened a law firm and all the cases went to lawyers who worked at his firm. He hadnât even been to court in a long time.
What did he know about being tired?
Armand cleared his throat, âYou should speak more civilly, canât you see thereâs a person here.â
He winked deliberately at Boyce, indicating the waitress.
âNonsense!â Boyce didnât worry too much about him.
Matthew seemed too quiet. He sat between them, but they didnât seem to exist to him. He carried the phone in his hands, rubbing his fingers back and forth across the screen. He wanted to call Dolores and ask if she was here, but seeing the other two besides him, he gave up the idea.
After ordering the dishes, Armand handed the menu back to the waiter and said, âPlease be quick.â
âSure.â
Soon, in about half an hour, the food was served.
Armand opened a bottle of wine and filled their glasses one by one, âThis is too boring with just the three of us.â
âWho else are you looking for, Phoebe?â
âDonât try to mess with me.â Armand glared at him.
Boyce smiled, âAre you still stuck on her?â
Phoebe Lewis was Armandâs first love. He dated her in college. He loved her dearly, but then they had broken up.
He had never revealed why he had broken up with her.
All Boyce knew was that Phoebe had become taboo to him. Not only would he not let anyone tell, but he had never fallen in love again. He had many women around him, but he never felt true love again and only played with them.
âTell me one thing, does a personâs feeling come from love or from sex?â Armand took a sip of wine and frowned at the taste, âNice.â
âShouldnât we ask you? Youâre the one with the most experience.â Boyce also took a sip of his wine.
Armand pointed to Matthew with his chin and said, âWe should ask him. Back then, didnât he and Helen get together in the first place because they slept together?â
He started dating her because he felt responsible for spending a night with her, but after she cheated on him, he didnât love her anymore.
Was this being in love, or was it not?
Matthew looked at him, âDonât you have anything better to do?â
âWeâre alone here. Iâm telling the truth. You took her virginity and then threw it away. Youâre a pretty bad guy.â Armand had had two glasses of wine and his voice was now considerably loud.
A few women were sitting in the room besides his, and they were all taken aback by his loud voice.
Allison reacted strongly, âOf course they did, not all men are good.â
Theresa had chosen this place because it had good ratings on the Internet. The food and atmosphere were good, but she hadnât expected the rooms to be separated by thin screens and not soundproofed at all.
Dolores felt the voice sound a little familiar, so she gently moved closer to the screen to peer into the other room through the small gap.
She saw Armandâs arm resting on Matthewâs shoulder.
âDid you love Helen, or did you just take responsibility after you slept with her?â
Dolores held her breath inexplicably, but she also wanted to know the answer.
She gripped her chair nervously.
Matthew took a sip of wine, âA little.â
He had never felt his heart stir for Helen, and in fact it was his sense of responsibility to spend the night with her that made him stay with her. Although his memory was fuzzy, he still remembered the feeling of that night.
If he didnât like her, he wouldnât have remembered it.
So it was like⦠a little bit.
Armand said, âI mean, if you start with sex, you can evoke more feelings.â
After all, when Matthew hadnât slept with Helen, he had no feelings for her. After sleeping with her once, he started to like her a little. So, sex could amplify feelings of love?
âYour logic is impressive, Mr. Lawyer.â Boyce gave Armand a thumbs-up.
Armand looked at him with narrowed eyes, âYou think everyone is like you? A thirty-year-old virgin?â Boyce was struck dumb with rage.
He wanted to curse Armand.
In the other room, Dolores didnât know what had suddenly happened to her, but she had lost her appetite.
She had lost her appetite completely.
âIs the food here not to your taste?â asked Theresa.
Dolores popped a mouthful of food into her mouth and said, âNo, itâs delicious.â
âItâs the first time Iâve eaten such authentic Chinese food.â Mrs. William was very pleased with the food, âAnd the atmosphere here is also very good, very Chinese. I like it.â
âAs long as you are satisfied. This trip will not disappoint you.â Theresa poured Mrs. William a glass of wine.
âOh, I should stop drinking. Iâm full and itâs time to go back.â Although Mrs. William maintained good posture, she was very old and had little energy.
âYes, I think so too.â Allison was also feeling tired. She had gone to the tent just after landing here; now she felt tired and needed to sleep.
âIâll leave you.â Dolores stood up and spoke.
âNo need.â Allison greeted her, âYouâve been busy in the store all day, go back and take care of the kids.â
âThen take my car.â Theresa handed Allison her car keys.
Allison took the keys and helped Mrs. William out of the room.
Dolores rubbed her face, âIâll go pay the bill.â
Theresa followed her, âDolores, you seem to be in a bad mood.â
Dolores denied, âNo.â
âYes. You were very happy all day, but while you were eating your expressions changed.â
âIâm still happy.â Dolores laughed. The store was about to open, she was extremely happy.
Theresa smiled.
Doloresâ face suddenly went dark, âDo I really look unhappy?â Theresa nodded seriously.
Dolores thought long and hard about why she had suddenly become unhappy.
Was she unhappy because Helen and Matthew were sleeping together, or because Matthew liked Helen?
She didnât know; she just knew she was upset.
Dolores took a deep breath, perked up, and headed to the front desk to pay.
âThe total bill is 5800.â
Dolores pulled out her card to hand it over, but suddenly she was enveloped by the shadow of a tall figure. Someone handed her card over first and said, âSwipe this one.â
