.
Dolores stood in the doorway and stared at Helen.
Helen fretted under her gaze and looked at Doloresâ phone, but she couldnât see anything from that distance. Nor could she do anything in front of Matthew other than calmly ask, âWhy is Miss Flores looking at me like that?â.
Doloresâ thoughts were swept away by what Helen said and her urge to confront Helen in front of Matthew was subsiding. Helen was the woman Matthew loved. Even if she did something, how was Matthew going to punish the woman he loved for a hired wife like her?
He gripped the âphone tightly and it took him a while to calm down.
She smiled at Helen, âI was transfixed by Miss Whiteâs beauty, please donât be offended, Miss White.â
Dolores walked towards them and her gaze strayed to the documents on the coffee table. She picked up the documents and it was the Repulse Bay contract. She looked up at Matthew and asked, âIs this for me?â
Matthew, who maintained his nonchalance throughout, nodded calmly.
Helenâs eyes widened, was this, was this really for Dolores, why, Helen didnât understand! Dolores looked up at Helen, stifled her fury and laughed coldly, âMiss White, I am Mr. Nelsonâs wife. So what if he gives me something?â
Helen was trembling with rage. This shameless bitch! Was she worthy to be Matthewâs wife? If it werenât for Matthewâs presence, Helen would have slapped Dolores!
âOf course.â Helen lowered her head and her tears began to flow which spoke of her pain, âMiss Flores, she is the real Miss Nelson, who am I to question that?â
âYou are the woman Señor Nelson likes. You were with him for so many years, whyâ¦do you have to demean yourself?â. Abbott looked at Dolores and didnât expect her to not only have no control over her private life, but to be so shameless. It was clearly a contract marriage, so how could she act like she was the legitimate wife? But she was indeed Matthewâs legitimate wife and although he was upset with Dolores, he could not openly disrespect her and take Helenâs side to offend her.
Dolores continued calmly as if she didnât hear the sarcasm in his words. She smiled and said, âMiss White, since you recognize my condition, will you please step aside?â
Instantly, the air froze for several seconds. All eyes looked toward the silent Matthew. Did he recognize his condition? If he did, what was to become of Helen?
The fleeting lights and shadows could not hide the evil lurking in Matthewâs expression as he said, âWhat is your status?â
An ominous feeling came over Dolores, but she looked up at him, âWe are husband and wife, if only for an hour. Is it wrong for me to sit next to you?â Dolores used her words against him.
She had been bullied for a long time and wouldnât say anything if it was just about her but to think that Helen made Jessica fall into mental illness just to get to Dolores. That was something she couldnât accept! Since Helen was worried about her getting close to Matthew then that was exactly what she wanted to do. and she wanted to do it in front of her!
Jessica was his only relative and she was at the end of her rope, âMiss White, although you have a deep relationship with my husband, we are not divorced. So I would like to ask Miss White to have a little self-respect.â
Helen looked up at Matthew and she was really looking at that disgusting woman! This womanâs expression really could change quickly. She used to be meek and submissive but now she was so assertive! What kind of woman was she?
They couldnât know what Matthew was thinking. Even Abbott, who had been with him for so long, could not read him, but he knew that the two women should not be together at this time. Although Abbott didnât fully understand the whole thing, he was smart enough to read the current situation in the room.
He stood up and patted Helenâs shoulder, âCome on.â
Helen was unwilling. She wanted to see where she stood in Matthewâs heart. But what if Matthew chose Dolores? Then she would be finished and all her efforts would have been in vain. It was very clear to her that Matthew didnât want her. Matthew treated her well, all for a night out and the years of friendship. He didnât love her and he didnât love her.
She couldnât gamble, couldnât afford to lose.
âI wonât put Matthew in a sticky situation. Youâve won.â Helen tried to say something nice before she left. She didnât admit defeat; she just didnât want to frustrate Matthew. She thought kindly of the bigger picture.
Soon enough, the room was silent. It was so quiet that quiet breathing could be heard.
This discomfort lasted for three minutes. Doloresâ back was drenched with cold sweat and she said after a while, âIâm going back to the room first.â
She behaved this way because of Helen. There was no reason for her to stay there now that Helen was gone. As soon as she took a step, Matthew grabbed her wrist and with a jerk, Dolores spun and fell into his embrace. Her reflex action was to struggle, but she was held tightly in his arms.
âWhat are you doing?â Dolores panicked and fidgeted.
Haha.
âWhat am I doing, werenât you being very assertive a moment ago?â Matthew grabbed her chin, âSo Iâve underestimated you.
If it wasnât for Helen, how dare she shake him? Sheâd been through hardships and in the last ten years, sheâd not only grown older, sheâd grown wiser. If she were soft, she would be bullied by others. So she could no longer show weakness to those who wanted to hurt her. She had to protect her mother and the baby inside her. She had to be strong and brave. Dolores didnât move and closed her eyes, refusing to listen to anything.
Matthew had never been treated like this by any woman, and this womanâ¦.
âMiss Floresâ¦â
Dolores was wearing a white round-necked T-shirt and lay sideways between his arms. Her chest rose and fell seductively with each breath. She grew inexplicably warm and her blood began to stir.
When Dolores didnât hear Matthew speak, her curled eyelashes began to tremble and she slowly opened her eyes, then looked at his expression that showed he was holding back with determination.
His gazeâ¦
Dolores traced his gaze downward⦠she realized he was looking at her cleavage and angrily pushed it away with all her might. Matthew looked startled and leaned back on the couch.
Dolores covered her chest, âYou pervert!â.
She hurriedly got up from the couch and wanted to quickly leave the room, but in her haste she didnât stand properly and tripped over Matthewâs leg and fell back on himâ¦.
âAhâ¦â
Matthew couldnât dodge in timeâ¦.
