âWhat are you doing?â his voice sounded like it was coming out of his chest and sounded muffled.
ââ¦â
After three seconds of silence, Dolores forced herself to calm down and said, âHe just gave me a ride.â
Matthew laughed. Her eyes were dark. She thought she was calm, but then she said fiercely, âIf he just gave you a ride, why did he come so close to you? Are my eyes deceiving me, or did he have other intentions?â
Doloresâ eyelids fluttered after hearing what he said. And that she thought she was narrow-minded. âMatthewâ¦â
âYou go in.â He interrupted what Dolores was trying to explain to him.
Doloresâ heart skipped a beat and she entered the hotel with concern.
âMr. White, step out of the car. Letâs have a chat.â Her voice sounded very calm, although it only seemed so on the surface.
Charles got out of the car with Tomâs help. And then Matthew didnât look at him and walked towards the green area outside the hotel. And Charles followed him.
âMr. Nelson, what do you want to talk to me about?â
Matthew stopped abruptly in his tracks. He turned around and craned Charlesâ neck so hard that Charlesâ body left the wheelchair.
âYou didnât understand my warning, did you?â
Charlesâ neck was squeezed by Matthew. Then he said in a choked voice, âI didnât do that. I think Mr. Nelson must have misunderstood me. I only met with Miss Flores to ask her about some matters.â
Matthew smiled coldly, seeming clearly unconvinced by what he had said. Although Dolores had no other intentions towards Charles, his were very evident.
âI think, if Miss Flores would just tell what happened before, then everything would be clear. And we wouldnât have to spend time and effort investigating something that happened so long ago. And itâs not so easy to investigate itâ¦â
Matthew increased the strength of his hands. Then he bowed slightly, looking condescending and aggressive, âIâm interested in Victoriaâs stories, but Iâll never force her to say anything she doesnât want to say. Since you have touched my limit, this is the end of our cooperation. Then, each of us will investigate the matter separately according to our capabilities.â
Matthew finished his words and let go of his hand, then Charles dropped into the wheelchair, shaking it a couple of times. The wheelchair looked like it was going to fall apart.
Charles reluctantly said, âMr. Nelson, have you ever thought about how much you think we could find out if the past is deliberately hidden? Or how long it would take us to get to the bottom of this?â
Matthew stopped pacing as he coldly curved his lips, âSo what if you canât find out?â.
He was different from Charles, who wanted to find out what had happened before because he wanted to avenge his foster fatherâs finger being cut off, but Matthew was only interested in Victoria.
Matthew wanted to know why she was hiding her last name, didnât Jayden know?
He knew Victoria must have a secret. Although he wanted to know her secret, he wasnât going to force Dolores to tell him.
In fact, he was afraid to know the truth about that secret inside, for he felt that Doloresâ change of attitude toward him was related to that secret.
He knew that a secret that could make her change her attitude should not be simple.
And he feared being involved in the truth.
He was very conflicted, for he wanted to know the truth, but he was afraid to find out.
At the hotel, as his grandmother was coming to visit him, Armand organized a dinner to welcome his grandmother. He had called everyone together and reserved the largest private room in the hotel. Everyone was there, but only Matthew was not there.
Dolores was holding her daughter in her arms. She stroked her hair for a while to hide her anxiety, for she didnât know if Matthew would have any conflict with Charles.
âLet me introduce you all. This is my grandmother. This is the grandmother who sacrificed everything to raise me.â Armand introduced his grandmother grandiloquently.
His grandmother did not cooperate with him and said, âWho doesnât know Iâm your grandmother? Is it necessary for you to introduce me to everyone? We all know each other here. You told me you were getting married at the end of the year, where is your bride?â.
Armandâs face stiffened, and he instantly looked depressed and upset.
His grandmother couldnât tell him anything without asking him where his bride was, as if she were possessed. And she also asked him if he was definitely getting married at the end of the year.
And his grandmother asked him again and again. And it only took his grandmother one morning to ask him.
He felt he was going crazy.
And he couldnât wait to find a woman to marry at once and get Mrs. Leslie to stop talking about it.
Boyce watched the dramatic scene silently beside him. Theresa, on the other hand, seemed to have nothing to do with it. He didnât interrupt her or express his opinions. And from time to time she spoke to Samuel, who was sitting next to her.
Dolores seemed clearly worried and depressed.
Armandâs grandmother glanced around the table. She thought Dolores was not an option as Armandâs wife. And she checked that Theresa was the only one who wasnât married. Then she said, âWhatâs your name?â
Theresa looked at Armand and then at her grandmother, âMy name is Theresa Gordon.â
âTheresa Gordon â your last name is Gordon and your first name is Theresa?â Mrs. Leslie asked, smiling.
Theresa nodded, âYes.â
Mrs. Leslie asked again, âDo you have a boyfriend?â
Before Theresa could say anything, Boyce answered for her, âHe does.â
Mrs. Leslie immediately made a long face. And she wondered in her mind why Theresa had not waited for her grandson Armand and why Theresa had found a boyfriend so soon.
Mrs. Leslie sighed.
Theresa turned her head to look at Boyce.
Boyce smiled as he held out his hands in desperation, âDidnât you and Armand tell us you were in a relationship?â Armand was speechless.
Mrs. Leslieâs eyes lit up. Then she thought, âTheresa was in a relationship with Armand?
Did that mean that her grandson had a girlfriend?
Slap!
With a slap, Mrs. Leslie slapped Armand on the back. Then she grumbled as she said with a smirk on her face, âWhy hadnât you told me?â
Armand inhaled deeply, looked at Theresa silently and didnât dare breathe.
âOops.â Madame Leslie was overjoyed. Then she got up from her seat and walked over to Theresa. She looked left and right. Although Theresa looked less pretty when she stood next to Dolores, as she looked at Theresa Mistress Leslie thought Theresa looked beautiful too. Also, Theresa had a heart-shaped face, large eyes, fair skin, and looked very young.
Mistress Leslie dragged Theresaâs hand and held it between her own, âWhy didnât you tell me you were having a relationship with Armand? Did he intimidate you? Iâm telling you, tell me if Armand intimidates you. Iâll beat the shit out of him.â
âItâs nothing like thatâ¦â
âGrandma, Grandma, donât scare my girlfriend.â Armand came over and started talking, âIâm afraid to talk to you about it, because Iâm afraid youâll get too excited.â
âArmandâ¦â
âGrandma, please sit down.â Armand would not let Theresa speak. As soon as she opened her mouth, he would deliberately interrupt her.
Theresa was so angry that her face turned red. She thought Armand was an idiot.
And she had made that clear to him before.
âFine, fine, fine.â Mrs. Leslie looked at Theresa. And the more she looked at Theresa, the more she felt she was very pleased with Theresa. And she said well three times in a row, so she was very happy and very pleased with Theresa.
This was a hoax and a kidnapping! And Theresa was not to let Armand use her to deceive Mistress Leslie.
âArmand, come out with me.â She had to talk to him and make it clear.
Armand patted Mistress Leslie on the shoulder, âIâll go outside and talk to Theresa for a few minutes, then weâll go inside.â
âIf you want to say something, you can say it right here, why do you have to go outside to talk?â Mrs. Leslie wanted to talk to Theresa and find out more about her family.
Armand straightened his face, âWhatâs the matter? If we want to have a private conversation, do you want to hear it too?â
âNo, I donât.â Mrs. Leslie hastily pulled her hands away.
Since her grandson had grown into an adult and had finally found a girlfriend, she couldnât let her grandson break up with his girlfriend because of her.
If he had, it wouldnât have been worth it.
Theresa walked past Armand and tugged at his coat, âHurry up.â
Armand comforted Mrs. Leslie, âSheâs a little shy. And sheâs a little thin-skinned. I was afraid sheâd be embarrassed, thatâs why I didnât tell her she was my girlfriend. Iâll go comfort her.â
âGo ahead.â Mistress Leslie waved her hand and told him to go comfort his girlfriend. And she fully supported him in doing so.
After comforting Mistress Leslie, Armand left the room. When he saw Theresa angry in the hallway, he took a deep breath before approaching her.
