Sunlight was streaming in through the French window. She was sitting on the floor in the corner. Her hands were holding a drawing board and she was sketching a wedding design. She already had the sketch in her mind and her progress was smooth. Whenever he got to work, he didnât worry about other things, he even put aside his anxious and terrified excitement that Sampson was causing him.
Just as Matthew was about to head that way, the driver who had just left with Dolores approached him. Normally, he didnât have to inform Matthew in person of that dayâs affair, but Armand and Boyce werenât around that day.
He thought he had to tell Matthew about Sampsonâs appearance.
âI went to the mall today with Miss Flores and we saw Sampson.â Matthewâs face sank and the expression on his face seemed strained.
âHe wanted to catch Miss Flores, but he didnât succeed. I didnât know she was watching us closely.â
He didnât even need to think about it. He must have been hiding in the dark and waiting for a good time to continue with his plan.
Matthew held up his hand, âI got it. You can go first.â
They stayed in sight while Sampson stayed in the dark. If they wanted to catch him, they had to think of a way to get Sampson exposed to their sight so they could catch him and not have to worry about him forever.
She had worked out a plan in her heart, but Armand was to be married recently. Therefore, he could only postpone his plan to leave Sampson exposed to their sight.
Just as the driver wanted to leave, Matthew called out to him, âPlease wait a bitâ¦â
âWhat did you buy at the mall today?â Matthew pretended to be serious, but inside he thought that Dolores had even bought a gift for Samuel, so she must have bought a gift for him too.
The driver thought for a while and answered him truthfully, âShe bought pearls, rubikâs cube and lace.â
It seemed that he had heard that Dolores had given Samuel a Rubikâs cube and that he could also use the childrenâs favor.
However, the other two things she bought, which were pearls and lace, were obviously not for him.
That meant there was no gift for him.
He wondered if Dolores took him as an important person in her heart.
He spoke in his deep, gravelly voice, âYou can go now.â The driver turned and drove away.
Dolores was immersed in her own design. She didnât mention that someone was approaching her and she didnât mention that she was slowly being covered by a dark shadow.
The black pencil in her hand wandered merrily across the paper. The first sample of the rough wedding design was shown and she was imagining the details.
Matthew lowered his body and his gaze fell on the wedding dress she was sketching with her pencil.
Dolores was immersed in her own world and didnât mention Matthewâs appearance at all. Suddenly, her hand became dazed and the tip of her pencil stopped on the final part of the finish.
The wedding was such a sacred ceremony.
She had longed for it in the past too, to wear the pure white wedding dress and marry the man she would spend the rest of her life with. Then they would hold hands and walk to the end of their lives.
Butâ¦
She lowered her eyelids slightly.
âWhat are you thinking about?â He stood so close to her and spoke in his deep, deep voice. His hot breath was spreading all over her skin, between her ear and neck, as he spoke. Dolores was startled and then lifted her head and looked at the source of the voice.
Matthew caught a trace of loss that was instantly hidden in her eyes the moment she raised her head.
Her pupils twitched slightly. He gave nothing to her when they were married. She was a woman, too, and he supposed she expected to wear the wedding dress as well.
He stepped back a little and created a distance between them. She lowered her head and said, âNo, nothing.â
She took the action of tidying up her design paper to disguise her agitation.
Matthew stood close to her again, âWhere did you go today?â
âI went out to buy something.â She held the drawing board in one of her hands and used the other to support herself and lift herself off the floor. Just as she moved, she discovered that her legs were numb as her legs had supported the drawing board for a long time.
âYour legs were numb?â Matthew squatted down beside her. He touched her right leg and then her left, âWhich one?â
Dolores pondered for a while and said, âLeft.â
He rubbed her left calf: âIs it here?â.
Dolores looked at his hand massaging her leg. Her palms were wide and warm with crisscrossed palm prints. She was sweating and her cold sweat was wetting his shirt silently. Her gentleness at this moment shone in his heart like a ray of light and felt so soft and gentle.
His voice gradually became low and husky, âHmm.â
Matthew was wearing a suit and was not comfortable with the squatting gesture.
Therefore, he merely sat down and placed her leg over his. âStretch your legs out.â Dolores was obedient and followed his instruction.
Matthew lowered his head and concentrated on massaging her numb calf.
After a while, he asked, âDo you have something to say to me?â
Dolores thought he was still angry about the Charles thing, so she explained again. âThere really wasnât anything between us.â
Matthew raised his head and stared at her. He actually hoped that Dolores could tell him herself about the affair she had known Sampson about that day. He hoped she could confess everything honestly and open her heart in front of him.
He was not angry about the Charles affair.
His voice turned cold: âStay away from him next time.â
Dolores nodded and replied, âOkay.â
Her obedient look made him unable to bear to scold her for not telling him that she had met Sampson on that day. He took the initiative and said, âHave you seen Sampson today?â
Dolores snapped her head up and looked him in the face. How did he know Sampson had shown up today?
She soon realized that he had been thinking of the driver who had followed her. The driver must have informed her of the affair back in the day.
âAre you hurt?â
Doloresâ heart was still beating vigorously as she remembered the scene of Simpson suddenly appearing and catching her. She shook her head, âNo.â
Although she had once nearly been caught by him, luckily, she had escaped. She had just gotten through a daunting experience without mishap.
Matthew knew she was hiding something based on his observation. The main purpose of Sampsonâs appearance must have been to go catch her. He embraced her and their two bodies pressed closely together. Fortunately, Sampson did not successfully catch her. âFollow me closely in the future, where should I go to look for you if you get lost, where should I go to look for the birth mother of my two children?â
Dolores lowered her eyes and said nothing. Matthew leaned his forehead against hers, âDid you hear me?â She was still silent.
Matthew stood closer to her. She could feel the warmth of him around her as she inhaled and exhaled. Her body tensed unconsciously and then she spoke softly, âYes.â
He lowered his head and looked at her. He lifted her hair that stretched out in front of her chest. He untied the tangled hair and placed it behind her back. âThatâs right, good girl.â
He held her by the waist and then carried her up from the ground. âGive it a try and see if you can walk.â
Dolores tried to exercise and get her numb leg to come to its senses. She said, âYes, I can walk now.â
She pretended to push him and walked alone. However, she was carried by him from the ground suddenly. She exclaimed and then instantly covered her mouth as she thought of the two children still in the room and the bodyguards in front of the elevator. All the people must have been attracted and come to them if she screamed.
Matthew laughed.
Dolores buried her face in his chest and said, âYouâre not afraid of other people looking at you.â
âWhat should I be afraid of?â The expression on his face became serious and his tone was also stern. âLetâs go back and have the wedding we didnât have in the past.â
Suddenly, her throat seemed to be stuffed with a pile of soft, steely absorbent cotton. She had no idea why her nose was gagging and she felt like crying. There was liquid rushing into her eyes with force.
He buried his head in his chest even more.

âThen weâll use flowers as the theme for the ceremony at that time, okay, what do you think?â
Armand kept insisting in Theresaâs ear. Theresa wasnât answering him and it looked like she hadnât regained consciousness.
âTheresa, talk to me.â The tall man, Armand, tugged on Theresaâs hand and spoke flirtatiously. Theresa shuddered and the hairs on the back of her body stood on end.
Then, she glared at him, âCan you be more serious?â
âMiss Gordon, what kind of seriousness do you expect from me?â it seemed as if Armand would change his expression in an instant and then stand up, as if he was going to have a serious fight.
He was so serious that Theresa was stunned for a while. Was this the Armand she knew?
Armand and Theresaâs voice came from the elevator. It was getting closer and closer.
It was as if they were going to appear in the hallway in the next second.
Dolores suddenly raised her head and said, âLet go of me.â
âIâm afraid itâs too lateâ¦â
Before Matthew finished his words, Armand and Theresa approached.
Dolores panicked for a moment and then immediately closed her eyes to pretend she was sleeping. Otherwise, it would be too embarrassing to let the others see her being carried by Matthew in the daytime.
Armand looked at Matthew and then looked at Dolores on his arm. Then he glanced outside. The day had not yet darkened and what were they doing, âYou guys .
