âHurry up and eat your food before it gets cold,â Dolores urged once again.
Matthew got up and walked over to the table. He lifted his head and looked at her, âArenât you going to eat with me?â
âIâve only filled a rice bowl. Iâll go outside to eat.â
âStay here with me.â Matthew sat up and pulled her to sit on his leg. Dolores lifted her head and looked at him, emphasizing once again, âJust a bowl of rice.â
âLetâs eat together.â Matthew thought this was no problem. He took the food and put it in his mouth.
Dolores was speechless.
âHmm?â
Matthew brought it close to Doloresâ mouth. The blue-green okra was on his lips, âArenât you hungry?â
Dolores murmured in her heart. She was not a child who needed to be fed.
âYou donât want me to feed you, do you?â Matthew only needed a glance to see through her.
Dolores said softly with her head lowered, âIâm an adult. You treat me like a child.â Matthew ate the food she hadnât eaten and set the bowl down, âYou feed me.â Dolores was speechless.
âYou can treat me like a child.â She lifted her head and gave him a wink, âFeed me.â
The corner of Doloresâ eyes twitched. But obviously, if she didnât, Matthew would pester her incessantly.
To get rid of him as soon as possible, Dolores picked up the chopsticks and the bowl. Then, she picked up a toothpick full of shrimp meat and stuck it in her mouth.
Matthew opened his mouth and bit into everything, including the chopsticks. Dolores tried to remove the chopsticks from Matthewâs mouth, but could not. She frowned and, just when she wanted to lose her temper, Matthew let go of the chopsticks.
âYummy.â He sketched a slight smile.
Dolores stared at him, âCoralâs dishes are always tasty.â
âTastes good because you fed me.â She slipped her arm around his waist. He lifted his head and fed her the shrimp meat she had just given him. âYou can taste if you donât believe.â
Dolores was speechless.
She didnât eat. Matthew raised his eyebrows, âWhat, do I disgust you?â
Dolores didnât meet his gaze, âNo.â
âThen eat.â
Dolores was speechless.
âCan you stopâ¦mmâ¦â
Her lips were gagged by his kiss before she could finish her sentence, and the shrimp meat was passed into her mouth.
Doloresâ eyes widened.
He sniffled, âIsnât it sweet.â
Dolores wanted to spit it out. Matthew noticed her movement and lifted his lower jaw. The shrimp meat made its way down his esophagus. The delicate taste spread throughout her mouth.
âDonât be perverse.â He sketched a wider smile. Dolores took a bite of rice without looking at him. Matthew no longer teased her. He had to cajole Dolores if he really angered her.
And he wasnât sure he could calm her down with sweet words.
They finished all the dishes because there was only one plate of rice. Dolores took the dishes out while Matthew went to the bathroom.
Coral was packing. Jessica was bathing Samuel.
Dolores put all the silverware from the dining room in the kitchen sink. She put on her gloves and squeezed out some dishwashing liquid, and started washing the dishes.
Coral arrived as she finished packing. She rushed in when she saw Dolores washing the dishes, âYou must be exhausted after spending all day in the car. Put them here and Iâll wash them. Then go take a bath and get a good nightâs sleep so you wonât feel so tired.â
Dolores said with a smile, âIâm not tired.â
âEven if youâre not tired, you donât need to wash them.â Coral pulled her aside and took off her gloves, âI noticed that Young Master looked unhappy. So go and keep him company some more.â
Dolores did not want to go into the room. Otherwise he would disturb her again. She stepped aside and picked up a washed apple. She pretended to be unnoticed and asked, âYour motherâ¦â.
Coral raised her head and looked at her. She seemed to be a little taken aback that Dolores brought up the subject so abruptly, âYou mean Mrs. Nelson?â.
Dolores nodded, âCan you tell me about her?â.
Coral was stunned for a moment before smiling, âSure.â
Dolores took the initiative to ask something about the Young Master. Does that mean that the relationship between Dolores and the Young Master took a major leap when they were away these days?
âI was following Mrs. Nelson to the Nelson Family. She worked for the Harris Family as a maid. Mrs. Nelson later married into the Nelson Family. The Harris Family was concerned that there was no one to take care of Mrs. Nelson here, so they asked me to follow her. Mrs. Nelson and Mr. Nelson were united in marriage. Although they did not feel much for each other, they respected each other. Then they had the Young Master. Their relationship improved markedly. Mrs. Nelson later died of her illness. Mr. Nelson married Victoria not even a month after Mrs. Nelson died.â
Dolores took a bite of the apple and chewed slowly in her mouth, but thought about this matter in her mind. She felt there was still much that could not be explained.
Jolene had passed away, but Victoria said she had been pregnant before.
So where was the child now?
Where was the man she was in a relationship with?
They all faded away as if they had followed Joleneâs death.
Coral, for her part, knew even less. She had no idea that Matthew was not Joleneâs biological son.
âWhat do you think of Victoria?â asked Dolores again.
Coral thought for a while and said without prejudice, âAlthough the time she was married to Mr. Nelson was not good, she is not a bad person. It seems that she was not in good health. She never criticized or blamed the Young Master. She did nothing beyond her limits. And, most importantly, she had no children. I really admire her on this point. After all, she was young at the time. It is unfortunate for a woman not to have her own child all her life.â
Dolores lowered her eyes, and the apple in her mouth had lost its taste. Victoria called her today to persuade her to give up making the watered gauze available to the world.
At that time, Jeffery forced her to use the Forbis Family family business in exchange for marriage to Jayden, due to pressure from the Harris Family to accompany their own son.
Even if her son did not know her.
Dolores was aware, and she could not pretend she was not. She was in no position to judge right from wrong at that moment. However, the Harris Family abusing their power and bullying people was out of place.
She clenched her hands. He would not regret it once he had made his decision.
Dolores still wanted to ask Coral about Jeffery.
She had been in the Harris Family before, and she would certainly know Jeffery. She heard Jessicaâs voice just as she was about to start asking.
âLola.â
Jessica had finished bathing Samuel. Perhaps because he was tired from the car ride, he had gone to bed and was sleeping now.
Jessica had something to tell her daughter. So, when she saw that Dolores was in the kitchen, she called her.
Dolores remembered she had something to tell her. She put down the apple and came out, âMom.â
âFollow me inside.â Jessica turned and walked into the room.
Dolores followed her inside. After entering the room, Jessica said, âClose the door.â
Dolores closed the door, sat down on the side of the bed and asked, âWhat do you want to tell me?â
Jessica clenched her hands. She didnât know how to tell her, or if she did, Dolores would definitely object.
âAre you and he still okay during this period away?â Jessica decided to first calm the atmosphere before telling her.
Dolores knew who Jessica had mentioned.
She just wanted to tell Jessica her decision, âHe and I are fine. Iâve decided to be with him.â
âThatâs good.â This was what Jessica wished for too, âAfter all, he is the father of the two children. Maybe your destiny was destined from the beginning. You will return to the original point after experiencing so many things.â
They had been sweethearts since they were children, and she gave birth to his children accidentally.
Perhaps it had all been fated somehow.
âLolaâ¦â Jessica was about to say something, but paused hesitantly.
âMom, say what you want. Iâm not a stranger. Iâm your daughter.â Dolores grabbed her hands.
Jessica looked at her daughter and steeled herself, âIâve decided to remarry Randolph.â
