Armand paused and slowly withdrew his movements. He didnât know why he was afraid to confess to Theresa that he had seen Phoebe.
Almost instinctively, he lied, âIâm meeting a client, so I forgot to pick you up.â Theresa waited for his confession, but all she got was a lie from him.
Her heart sank. She panicked inside. And she didnât know what to do about their relationship.
She got up and went to her closet to get her clothes, but Armand hugged her from behind, âWhatâs wrong with you? You look like thereâs something wrong with you.â
Theresa let go of his embrace, âIâm going to sleep in the guest room.â
Armand pulled her back, âWhat did you say?â
She had just married him and wanted to sleep in a separate bed from him. If Madame Leslie found out, she would worry about their relationship again.
âIâm tired today.â Theresaâs voice sounded a little choppy.
She felt hurt inside.
Armandâs heart contracted, and then he reached out to take her hand to cup her face between his. Although she didnât want to cry, she couldnât hold back the tears. The oppression and grief she felt the moment Armand touched her reached its peak. Then she could not hold back the tears in her eyes.
Seeing her cry, Armand was frightened. He reached out his hand to wipe away her tears, âWhatâs wrong with you? Tell me if youâve been hurt in the store, did a customer give you a hard time?â.
Theresa was crying harder and harder.
Every journey starts at gαâηÏνððsâ¤cðð âDonât cry. When I see you cry, I panic. If you suffer too much, you can quit your job. And you can count on me.â Armand wiped away her tears.
Theresa lowered her eyes, âI donât want you to take care of me. I can take care of myself. All I can think about is something sad. And thatâs why I canât help itâ¦â
Armand took her in his arms, âDonât think about it.â
âWould you lie to me?â asked Theresa.
Armand stiffened, but quickly regained his natural expression and said, âI wouldnât.â
Theresa pouted, âIâll give myself two chances.â
She was giving Armand two chances, too. If he lied to her again, she would divorce him.
She considered divorce a respect for her marriage.
âWhy are you giving yourself two chances?â Armand listened to what she was saying and felt a little confused.
âItâs nothing.â She pulled away from Armandâs embrace.
âI want to be alone. Iâm going to sleep in the guest room.â
Armand tugged at her, âIf you let Mistress Leslie see you sleeping like that in the guest room, sheâll worry about us. And sheâll think something is wrong with our relationship. How about this? Since youâre not in a good mood today, I wonât touch you, will you stay here?â
Theresa didnât listen to him because she didnât want to look at Armand. And she could think of Phoebe when she saw him.
âHow about I sleep on the floor instead of sharing a bed with you? Will you stop staying away from me?â whispered Armand.
âLook, my grandmother is very old, so I donât want her to worry about me.â Armandâs tone sounded humble as he said these last words.
Theresa turned to look at Armand. He kept saying he was afraid that Mrs. Leslie would be sad. Wouldnât he tell her not to leave him either?
She smiled bitterly, âOkay.â
Since she decided to give him another chance, she had to endure the pain he suffered this time.
It was she who was too soft-hearted. She had agreed to marry him at first, but now she was suffering from the misery she had inflicted on herself.
She grabbed her clothes and went to the bathroom.
Armand sensed something was wrong, but he couldnât figure out what was wrong. Suddenly, he had a flash of insight, pulled out his phone and checked his phone records. She hadnât called him, which meant she couldnât have found out heâd been meeting Phoebe today.
But it was clear that Theresa didnât seem to be in a good mood. Was she like this because she had seen Phoebe during the day?
Could he still take her to his heart?
Seeing Theresa like this, Armand felt very nervous. So he pulled out his phone and called Dolores.
He wanted to ask Dolores if Theresa was like this at the store today.
Dolores went to the store today. Since she had been gone so long, she always checked the store when she returned. The store seemed to be a little empty.
Allison had taken some orders during Doloresâ absence. Some people were coming to the store because of Doloresâ reputation. Since she was not in the store, Allison was unable to serve customers.
Dolores was in the store for a day. On the one hand, she was trying to calm her down about Jessicaâs problems. On the other hand, she was trying to think of a way to get the store running smoothly. This way, Allison, Theresa and other salesgirls could earn more.
Besides, the day-to-day expenses of the store also needed money.
Even though Matthew was rich, she didnât want to depend on him.
She decided to have a fashion show after the year to attract customers. Besides, she wanted people to see the strength of the designers in her store. She calmed down for a day. Then she decided to go see the Flores Family with Matthew in the evening.
As she was getting out of the car, her phone rang. Then she saw Armandâs name appear on the screen.
She couldnât help but wonder why he was calling her Armand.
She looked at Matthew.
Matthew closed the car door and walked over to her, âWhoâs calling you?â.
âArmand,â Dolores answered.
âWhy is he calling you?â Matthew looked at the screen of his phone.
Dolores shook her head, âI donât know.â
He said that as he answered the phone, âHello.â
âDolores, itâs me.â
Dolores merely said, âHum.â
âWas Theresa in a bad mood when she was working at the store today?â asked Armand.
Dolores kept herself locked in her office. And when she ate lunch, she saw that Theresa seemed to be in a good mood.
âNo.â Since Armand asked this question about Theresa, it meant that Theresa obviously seemed unhappy. âHave you two had an argument?â
Armand was quick to deny, âNo. I could tell she wasnât in a good mood, so I wondered if she had encountered something bad in the store.â
âNo,â Dolores said.
âAll right. Iâll hang up now.â
Dolores merely said, âHum,â and hung up the phone.
Matthew was near her and heard her talking to Armand. So he didnât ask her any questions. He put his arm around her, âLeave everything in my hands.â Dolores nodded.
She still thought Jessica should not have remarried Randolph.
The reason Jessica wanted to remarry Randolph all of a sudden had to be because of what Randolph had threatened her and done. In a word, Jessica was definitely reluctant to remarry Randolph.
Dolores came to the Flores Family today to ask Randolph why.
âCome on.â Matthewâs arms went around Dolores as she walked across the cobblestones and to the front of the villa.
Randolph had sold the villa before. And bought it back later.
It was still the Flores Family villa.
Click.
They rang the doorbell.
There were maids in the villa. And it was the maid who opened the door. Since the maid was new here, she didnât know Dolores and Matthew, so she asked, âWho are you looking for?â.
Dolores looked inside the villa and saw Jessica and Randolph watching TV in the living room. And there was fruit on the table. They looked like a happy couple in love.
âWho is it?â Randolph looked at the door. Seeing Dolores and Matthew, he got up from the couch and smiled, âLola, youâve come home.â He scolded the maid, âWhatâs the matter, why wonât you let them in?â The maid bowed her head and turned away.
Randolph smiled flatteringly, âMr. Nelson, Iâm sorry. Sheâs new here, so she doesnât know you.â
All the previous maids in the villa had been dismissed when the Flores Family was in trouble at the time.
Matthew did not respond. If it werenât for Dolores, he wouldnât be here. And he wouldnât be dealing with someone like Randolph.
Randolph didnât look embarrassed. He smiled as he said, âCome in.â Dolores entered.
Jessicaâs heart squeezed as she stood up.
