When Jeffery walked in the door, Marina was already waiting for him with the slippers from her room.
Jeffery stopped and immediately asked, âWhat happened today?â
âCome in and weâll talk.â Marina placed the slippers in front of Jeffery.
Jeffery scoffed and was eager to hear her explanation. How hard was it for her to invite Dolores to dinner? She wasnât even capable of carrying out such a simple task.
She slipped on her slippers, made her way to the couch and sat down before asking, âGo ahead. Whatâs it all about?â
Marina had pondered since returning from the clothing store how she should approach the matter with Jeffery. But now she was perplexed.
âSo get out of here!â shouted Jeffery as his patience ran out.
âI thought of the children and couldnât bear toâ¦â said Marina.
Jeffery frowned deeply and asked, âAnd thatâs why you didnât ask her out?â
Marina was quick to reply, âYes. You should know Matthewâs character. Arenât you worried that his opinion of you will take a drastic turn when he learns that youâre plotting against him?â
Marina knew that Jeffery was very concerned about Matthew. She also knew that eighty percent of that concern was due to Jolene.
âI think we should come clean and talk to Matthew about Dolores. Beyond that, we shouldnât interfereâ¦â
âYou know Dolores knows how to make the gauze watered?â Jeffery lost patience and interrupted Marina. He already knew Marinaâs points and had considered them.
Marina was stunned when she heard that Dolores knew how to make the watered gauze. Wasnât this the protected family secret of the Forbis Family? How could they have taught Dolores?
âHow do you know this?â Marina couldnât believe what she had just heard.
Jeffery heaved a sigh and said, âThe person I sent to White City said so. Donât you think I know the implications? Matthew is very smart, donât you think he would know about Doloresâ knowledge of the watered gauze? Or do you think Dolores could learn all of this in secret without him knowing?â
Marina looked wide-eyed and exclaimed, âYou mean he knows?â
Jeffery was sure at that moment that Matthew knew. Matthew didnât detest Dolores because he really liked her. Besides, Dolores had given birth to two beautiful children for him. Even if he felt uncomfortable with her, he would not blame her or be angry with Dolores.
It was because Jeffery knew this that he made the decision to drive a wedge between Dolores and Matthew. He could not accept Matthewâs wife being close to Victoria.
âSo what should we do now?â Marina thought that all she had to do was convince Matthew to get Dolores away from Victoria. But now it seemed to be more complicated.
Matthew knew about the relationship between Dolores and Victoria, but he didnât press the issue.
Jeffery scoffed, âHeâs not himself anymore! And to think he went back to Nelson Manor with that woman.â Jeffery gasped because he was furious.
Marina grabbed his hands and comforted him, âCalm down, your health is more important.â
He looked at Marina and replied angrily, âIf I donât stop this, he will soon forget who his mother is. I will not let that Victoria charm and take Joleneâs son away.â
In her eyes, Victoria had already taken Jayden from Jolene. Now he could not accept Joleneâs son taking Victoria as his wife. This was her absolute bottom line.
Marina knew this affair was beyond compromise. With a sigh, she knew that Jeffery could not overcome this mental knot and forced herself to accept it. Only then would she be able to support her husband.
âIâm sorry about this. I ruined your plans for a moment of madnessâ¦â
âItâs okay.â Jeffery closed his eyes and had to rethink this.
Matthew had expressed himself very clearly today and now the opportunity to act had closed as Matthew would now be ready. Any plan of his had to be direct and effective. He was in no hurry.
At the other end.
Dolores was sitting in the passenger seat waiting for Matthew.
âHave you been drinking?â She asked Matthew as soon as he got into the car.
âA little.â Matthew adjusted his shirt collar and undid two buttons.
Dolores got out of the car and walked to the driverâs side and said, âCome on, Iâll drive.â
Matthew smiled, âAre you worried?â.
Dolores took the car keys and said sternly, âDrink and donât drive, donât you know.â
Matthew looked at her stern expression and laughed, âIâm not drunk.â
âEven then.â Dolores insisted.
Matthew got out of the car, swapped seats with Dolores and whispered in her ear, âThe wife is always right.â
Dolores pulled away, started the engine and glared at him, âSweet tongue. You must feel guilty about something.â
Matthew knew something was wrong and there seemed to be a hidden message.
âTell me. when did you meet that Miss Chambers at the hotel and what did the two of you do next?â
