Chapter 451: Chapter 451

Matthew, who had been silent the whole time, finally intervened.

Jeffery turned to ask, “What do you mean?”

With a deadpan look on his face, Matthew said casually, “I just want to know.”

“By the way, I’m afraid I have to go see the Chambers Family again today. I was the one who suggested that Chloe marry you. I haven’t told Eddie about this decision yet. I’m afraid he would be very sad.”

Eddie helped him and was willing to let his daughter marry Matthew, but Jeffery didn’t think he had kept his promise to Eddie. He felt rather embarrassed.

“You mean it was Eddie Chambers who came up with this idea?” Even though Matthew was asking, he had already gotten an answer inside.

“Yes, it was him. I want to separate you and Dolores Flores badly. He came up with this idea and told me. Eddie said that Sampson Herbert went to jail because of Dolores Flores, so the Herbert Family hated her. They were willing to help me,” Jeffery said sincerely.

Hearing the answer, Matthew didn’t feel surprised at all. “I guess I hadn’t told you a lot of things yet.”

“What kind of things?” Jeffery raised his tone a little.

He trusted Eddie a lot. Suddenly, it seemed to him that Eddie had been keeping something from him, so he couldn’t help but raise his voice.

“A few days ago, some people wanted to take Dolores away decidedly. They took a lot of people away and went into the hospital…”

“Really?” Soon, Jeffery understood. “You mean it was Eddie?”

“He didn’t do it himself. He used the Herbert Family. His daughter died in jail and Eddie manipulated him. I’ve already looked into the matter. Without any proof, I wouldn’t tell you.” Matthew just wanted Jeffery to know that Eddie offered up his daughter, not because of Jeffery. Eddie probably had his own goals.

Matthew couldn’t understand Eddie’s purposes, since based on his relationship with Jeffery, he didn’t need to keep her through his daughter’s marriage for convenience.

Why would Eddie be so eager to let his daughter marry him?

What did he want?

What was his goal?

Eddie went out of his way to achieve this goal, even expending more effort than Jeffery.

“Probably because I was sick and he was afraid I might break my word, so he had done it behind my back.” Jeffery was also confused, wondering why Eddie would have to do that.

Since they were such good friends, Eddie should have discussed it with him before taking the action.

“You can check to see if he had purposely kept it from you.” Matthew picked up the file from the desk, but didn’t pull the documents out to read them.

Matthew knew Jeffery more or less-since Jeffery had decided to let Dolores go, he wouldn’t do anything to her in the future.

Matthew stood up. “I don’t like Eddie Chambers very much.”

He couldn’t understand the man’s purpose, so it would be a disaster in the future.

Jeffery frowned. “What do you mean?”

“I have to go now.” Matthew had reminded Jeffery, so he didn’t want to continue the conversation.

He walked down the stairs, out of the pavilion, and avoided the spring.

Beneath the hibiscus, Jeffrey watched her receding figure.

He let out a sigh. Finally, they were still distant from each other.

He feared he and Matthew could never get back to the way they used to be.

“I want to let go too, but I can’t.”

If he needed to uproot the ingrained, sprouting obsession, he had to die first.

Jeffrey left the Hibiscus Garden, heading straight for the Chambers’ house.

Chloe was feeling very bored at home. She couldn’t bear to stay home all the time.

“Dad, I’m leading a life of a convict now! When do I get to go out?” complained Chloe.

At that moment, there was a knock at the door. Mrs. Chambers went to answer it.

Chloe continued: “I can’t stand it, I have to get out! If this keeps up, I’ll go crazy!”

“Just tolerate more…” Seeing Jeffery come in, Eddie changed his words, “Go back to your room first. I’ll talk to you later.”

“Hi, Jeffery.” Eddie got up from the couch.

“I was feeling so bored recovering at home.” Jeffery was still behaving as usual. Eddie smiled, “It’s not serious. You’ve recovered after a few days. I can tell you look much better now.”

Jeffery heaved a sigh. “I’m getting old. Time flies by like a horse that runs endlessly.”

With a smile, Eddie said, “Let’s go to the study.”

Mrs. Chambers approached and asked, “What would you like to drink?”

“I’m not thirsty.” Realizing Jeffery was there, Eddie added, “Make some tea. Jeffery likes tea, he’s old school.”

“You know me.” Jeffery followed him into the study with a smile.

“I hope you weren’t worried after I got sick,” Jeffery said, pretending it wasn’t intentional.

“Have a seat.” Eddie struck a pose. Jeffery sat down.

“Why would I be worried? I’m counting on you on this one.” Eddie sat down. Landon was unsuccessful, so he was quite anxious. “He’s recovered now. Last time, Matthew has agreed to…”

“I heard someone came into the hospital when he was sick. Do you know what happened?” Jeffery interrupted him.

Eddie’s heart skipped a beat. However, he kept his cool. “I heard. It seems Landon Herbert found someone to do it. His daughter died in jail. He went in because of Dolores Flores. I heard she’d killed two people.”

Jeffery closed his eyes. If Matthew hadn’t reminded him, he would have absolutely believed what Eddie was saying.

Now, Jeffery only suspected him.

“Eddie, we’ve known each other for several decades, haven’t we?”

Eddie nodded. “Exactly. We enlisted together in the military and work together to this day.”

Jeffery was rather disappointed. Indeed, Eddie had been his friend for many years, but he lied to him.

“I heard that you hired someone to kill the Herbert Family girl and that you used Landon to force Matthew.”

Eddie was instantly confused, wondering why Jeffery would have known.

As Mrs. Chambers sent up the tea, before knocking on the door, he heard Jeffery’s words. He paused.

She began to eavesdrop at the door.

Chloe wanted to eavesdrop if Eddie was discussing her marriage to Matthew with Jeffery, so she went downstairs. Seeing that her mother was eavesdropping, she asked with a frown, “Mom, what are you doing?” “Shut up!

“Come closer,” Mrs. Chambers whispered to her daughter.

Chloe moved closer. “What are they talking about now?” Mrs. Chambers let her eavesdrop.

Chloe was very curious and followed her mother to lean against the crack.

“Who told you those things?” Eddie struggled to remain calm.

However, his brain was working quickly, wondering how he could fool Jeffery.

“How can I question you without any firm evidence. If you’re wishing Chloe to marry Matthew, you can tell me directly. Don’t you know how close we are? How can I ignore your request? I gave you a suggestion but I didn’t keep my words. I should apologize to you. But isn’t it so improper to do such things behind my back?”

Eddie panicked. “Do you have the proof?”

That was pretty fatal.

“We’ve been friends for many years. Tell me honestly…you’ve put in so much effort and time. Why do you want Chloe to marry Matthew so badly?” Eddie was silent.

Suddenly, the door to the study was pushed open. Standing in the doorway, Mrs.

Chambers said, “I know why you’ve spent so much effort getting Chloe to marry Matthew Nelson.”

Everyone looked at her, including Chloe, who was completely surprised.
