“Ma’am?” The bodyguard whispered when he saw that Dolores wasn’t moving.

Dolores waved her hand and walked towards Jessica.

The bodyguard followed close behind her.

“Mom.” Some distance away, she whispered.

Jessica’s body stiffened for a moment. She turned and looked at Dolores, who was standing not far away, forcing a smile. “Lola, why are you here?” her face looked better than before.

“I should be the one to ask you, why are you wearing patient clothes in the hospital?

What happened to you?” Her voice was low and she was afraid to hear bad news.

Victoria’s death had come as a great shock to her.

But with her children and Matthew at home, she couldn’t show her sadness. She was afraid she would have a mental breakdown if anything happened to Jessica.

Jessica approached. Noticing that she was wearing baggy clothes and flat shoes, she smiled and said, “Boyce told me you’re pregnant?”

She was unwilling to cooperate in the treatment. She displayed a negative attitude and had no will to live. Boyce had no choice, so he told her that Dolores was pregnant. At that point, Boyce said, “She has suffered a lot with you. If you don’t care at all about her life or her death, then don’t cooperate for treatment.” Then he left.

He recalled that he had followed her into a strange environment when she was ten years old. They had a hard time for a living and had huddled against each other for warmth. Her life then was both bitter and sweet.

Now that she was pregnant, she thought she should get along with Matthew, and thought he might have a chance to see her embrace her happiness. It would be nice to take care of her children for her if she could live longer.

So knowing that Dolores was pregnant, he began to actively show his cooperation for treatment.

After seeing her suffer, he hoped to see her happy.

He held Dolores’ hand. “I’m fine, don’t worry…”

Dolores shook his hand. “I want to hear the truth.”

He was obviously deliberately hiding it from her, that it was definitely not a minor illness.

Knowing she couldn’t hide it, Jessica sighed deeply. “Let’s go back to the room.”

She stayed in the VIP single room and was quiet. There were too many people in the park.

Dolores didn’t utter a word and agreed to his suggestion. He followed her to the hospital and to the room where she stayed. He walked in and opened the window.

There was a park between the ward and the building she was staying in earlier.

“How long have you been here?” he asked her.

“A couple of days.” Jessica sat down next to the bed and greeted her, “Come here, Lola.”

Dolores went and sat down next to the bed. Jessica grabbed her and shook her hand. “I’m glad to hear you’re pregnant.”

Dolores gently lowered her gaze.

“My illness is due to something hereditary, but don’t worry. The doctor said that as long as I cooperate for treatment, there will be no problem for me to live a few more years…”

Dolores hugged her tightly and choked suddenly. “Why, don’t you know that I will feel sad…. ”

Jessica patted her on the back. “Don’t be sad, Lola. I will cooperate for the treatment and help you take care of your son in the future. Boyce said that as long as I cooperated for treatment, he would help me find someone to commute my sentence. After I receive treatment for a year and a half, and you give birth, I will be able to take care of your child like I did with Simona and Samuel.”

Dolores said nothing, she felt dejected. “Mom, what do you think is the most painful thing in one’s life?”

Jessica thought she was sad remembering the past, so she comforted her. “The past is past, and you will live a happy life in the future.”

Dolores shook her head. “The most painful thing in life is that you have no idea when your family is in front of you. That’s why it’s so unforgettable when you lose them.”

Jessica’s body stiffened a little. “Have you, have you heard anything?”

The emotion Dolores dared not express at home revealed itself to Jessica undisguised at that moment.

She paid no attention to Jessica’s words.

She was thinking about the tragedy between Victoria and Matthew.

Jessica sighed. “Lola, I’ve always seen you as my own daughter. I couldn’t help it then either. He was my father’s son before he married. It was embarrassing to talk about his mother’s identity and he is a son born of love. He had not shown his face in public. No one knew he was one of the Lennons…”

“Mom, what are you talking about?” Dolores wiped the sweat from her face. She couldn’t understand what he was saying. She reached out and touched Jessica’s forehead, thinking maybe it was a relapse of psychosis.

Jessica pulled her hand away. “I’m fine. Didn’t you say something about not knowing your family standing in front of you just now? Isn’t knowing who your real birth parents are the most painful thing in life?”

Dolores sat motionless next to the bed. She had lost the ability to move. She stared at Jessica with glassy eyes. It took her a long time to find her voice. “Biological parents? You’re my mother and Randolph is my father.”

“Randolph is not your father.” Even though Randolph was dead, her hatred for him didn’t go away. She even thought he didn’t deserve to be called father by Dolores.

Speaking of which, Jessica didn’t want to hide it anymore. She took Dolores’ hand and said, “Lola, your father’s name is Stanley Lennon. He is my brother from another mother who shares the same father with me. Only the family knows his identity…”

Dolores stood up abruptly. “Mom, what nonsense are you talking? I am your daughter. I haven’t heard or seen any Stanley Lennon.”

She couldn’t accept it right away.

“Lola.” Jessica knew the truth was too sudden and she couldn’t accept it for a moment. She couldn’t help but sigh. She thought she had figured it out and wanted to tell him. Unexpectedly, however, she didn’t know at all.

“You must be tired. Get some rest. I have to get back. Samuel and Simona are still waiting for me.” Dolores refused to listen to her any longer and headed for the door.

Jessica didn’t force her. “Come see me when you want to know. The necklace you’re wearing was left to you by your birth mother.”

Dolores paused slightly as she was holding the doorknob, then quickly opened the door and stepped out.

She walked quickly and the bodyguard followed her. “Please slow down, ma’am.” Dolores didn’t seem to hear him. She just wanted to get out of there quickly.

She didn’t want anything to do with Jessica.

As she got into the car, she said, “Let’s get out of here quickly.”

The chauffeur started the car and the bodyguard looked at her with concern. “Are you all right, ma’am?”

Dolores reacted and shook her head. “I’m fine.” She seemed to have thought of something and added, “Don’t tell anyone I’ve been out today, do you hear me?”

Both the chauffeur and the bodyguard agreed.

She was in a trance all the way, as if having an unreal dream.

When she returned to the villa, she went upstairs and headed for the bathroom. She soaked a face cloth, folded it and lay down on the couch, putting it on her forehead.

He must have been feverish until his brain went numb, so he had auditory hallucinations.

Stanley Lennon is her father! she scoffed. She had never even met him. How could that be?
