The carâs engine sounded outside at that moment. Boyce came out of the factory and saw a black car stopped next to the concrete road. He saw Armand through the front windshield, who was sitting in the driverâs seat. Soon Matthew opened the back door and stepped out of the car.
He was wearing a meticulously tailored black suit. He kept his back straight and had a neat appearance. His face was impassive and unchanged in expression, and he was calm as a bottomless puddle.
Boyce was about to become accustomed to his indifferent expression. Since Dolores had left B-Town, Matthew talked much less, and stayed mostly at the company. He only left the company because of the Jeffery business.
Boyce and Armand were doing better than Abbott, who was in deep water. Matthew spent most of his time at work in a month, and he had acquired two large companies in the country. Boyce didnât know if Matthew couldnât stand idly by or if the company needed to develop.
An uneasy and tense work environment was spreading among WY Group employees. When Boyce last saw Abbott, Abbott had complained that Matthew must be crazy. He said Matthew had a meeting that started from nine in the morning until three in the afternoon and lasted six hours in total. Matthew would not let people out at lunchtime and no one was allowed in the conference room. During the meeting, there was no more water on the table. No one dared to move, and those who wanted to go to the bathroom had to hold it. There were up to hundreds of company executives participating in the meeting. Every one of them had a bitter face, but they had to sit up straight. They were always tense and didnât say a peep.
If someone didnât do the job Matthew asked them to do or didnât meet his requirements, they would berate them directly without keeping up their image in front of everyone.
Matthew acquired two large companies in just one month, and the workload involved was mind-boggling.
Matthew also made a blank face when he stayed with Boyce and Armand, but at least they werenât âmistreatedâ by him.
Boyce appreciated this and walked over to them and said quietly, âHeâs a green, inexperienced kid. I think he only knows a few things about the kidnapping thing.â
Matthew had an icy face, âHas he confessed?â
âHe hasnât said it yet. I wanted to wait for you to come,â Boyce lowered his head and touched his nose. Inexplicably he didnât dare look at Matthew. Matthew looked at Boyce and walked into the factory.
Armand, who was following Matthew, approached Boyce. Boyce stopped him and whispered, âDo you think we should look for Dolores in private?â
They were finding it difficult to get along with Matthew, as his mood was very changeable.
Armand looked at Boyce and hesitated for a moment, âWill Matthew be angry when he finds out?â
Since Matthew wasnât looking for Dolores himself, they feared Matthew would be angry if they intervened in this matter.
âLetâs do it in private, and not let him find out,â Boyce looked at Armand like a fool. It must have meant not letting Matthew find out since he had said they would do it privately and secretly.
âOkay, letâs find a place to discuss it in detail after this,â Armand sighed and said with a smile, âFinally, someone is worse off than I am.â Boyce looked at him speechless.
Armand smiled more tightly, âSomehow, I feel equal now. You donât know how much it hurts me to force a smile when Theresa is not in this period, but Matthew knows my feelings now,â Armand pointed to Matthew, who had already entered the factory, and leaned over Boyce, âMatthew is worse off than I am. His wife and children have left him behind.â
Matthew couldnât be in a good mood since he was alone.
Boyce glared at Armand, âHow sorry I am that you gloat over him?â.
Armand immediately became serious, âWhat nonsense you are talking. Iâm not gloating over him. I think Iâm gloating a little. Now feel the pain of my suffering.â Boyce was speechless.
âAre they finished?â Matthewâs voice was as cold and fierce as the wind in December.
Boyce and Armand turned and saw Matthew standing before the cluttered factory.
His neat, nonchalant appearance was in stark contrast to the dirty mess all over the floor.
Boyce smiled and walked over to Matthew, âI asked Armand to come over for a drink in the evening, and I didnât dare ask you, so I talked to Armand some more.â
Matthew said in a deep, monotone voice with no heart in it, âIs that so?â his eyes seemed indifferent that people couldnât feel any temperature.
âOf course,â Boyce forced himself to reply.
Matthew looked at Boyce and did not pursue the subject further. He gently raised his mouth and lips parted slightly and said coldly, âMake him talk.â
Boyce responded and then walked over to the little boy. He looked at the little guy with an expression of ferocity that was scary and could scare people, âTell us. who asked you guys to kidnap Dolores? Why did you want to kidnap her?â.
The guy looked at him and his teeth clashed together. He didnât dare crack jokes and told them everything he knew: âWe have been doing things for people, and we would get paid after doing things. Someone paid us to kidnap a woman. Usually it was my cousin who took some small jobs, like fighting for people. However, he did not accept the kidnapping job himself. I heard him say that it was someone named Bailey who sent his men to my cousin. My cousin was excited at the time and said it was a great deal since we would be paid with a lot of money after just kidnapping the woman. However, my cousin didnât even get paid and died.â
The guy felt aggrieved. He did not dare to stay in B-town after his cousin died, he was afraid and went back to his hometown and even got caught by Boyce. He felt broken and cheated because he and his cousin had paid such a fat price and did not get the money in the end.
Boyce wondered, âWith the last name Bailey?â
âDidnât he say what the manâs name was?â asked Boyce again.
The guy shook his head, âMy cousin told me. I didnât know who the person was, but I heard from my cousin that the person seemed powerful and influential. I havenât seen the person. I have told you everything I know. Can you release me now?â he looked at Boyce with eyes full of pity pleading.
âDonât fret. I will release you as long as you tell us the whole truth. If you dare withhold information from usâ¦â Armand spoke and leaned against the door. He deliberately dragged the -s ending and pointed at Boyceâs men, âThey are all rough men and do not know how to control their strength. It is usual for a person to be incapacitated after being beaten by them.â
The young man was ashen with fear and stammered, âI have already told you what I know. I⦠I am a small fish and I always followed my cousin to be a street gangster. I didnât know the person surnamed Bailey. Please, you must trust me.â
Boyce crossed his arms over his chest and rubbed his chin with a single finger. He reflected on the person surnamed Bailey. He guessed, âIs it Declan Bailey?â The name Declan Bailey was familiar in the circle.
Boyce turned his head and looked at Matthew, who was standing in front of the window, âIs Declan the only son of Old Lord Bailey? Is he the Declan who dares all and has his father to rely on?â
âItâs explainable if it was Declan Bailey who did it. Jeffery doesnât want to get involved in this, so he PUT himself in contact with Declan since Old Mr. Bailey has been friends with Old Master Harris,â Armand said.
Old Lord Bailey and Jefferyâs father were of the same generation and had a lot of power and influence. Armand learned of their affairs when Matthew did not antagonize Jeffery.
Boyce became serious and wondered, âIt will be troublesome if it comes to that.â
Declan wasnât easy to deal with and he certainly wouldnât admit it.
Why would he help Jeffery, for friendship or for exchange of benefits?
It was easy to deal if it was for exchange of benefits. Otherwise, it would be problematic if it was for friendship.
Matthew put on a look of circumstance and thought. He walked out of the factory and stopped as he reached the door, âI donât want to see this person again.â
