Six years later, in Country Aâ¦
Warm, yellow light illuminated the interior of the house.
A shadowy figure, slim and slender, was busy in the kitchen, preparing dinner for the family.
Sampson Herbert was sitting on the living room couch, staring at Dolores Flores, who was busy in the kitchen. Simona Flores shuffled toward Sampson, âMan, do you like my mom?â
Sampson gasped. Every time he heard that name, he got very frantic. Dolores refused to accept his feelings for her, only treating him like a brother.
These two kids called him uncle.
But they were adorable.
With a pair of big, round eyes, skin tender and white, like spring; curly eyelashes, twinkling like porcelain dolls.
Sampson picked up one of them and headed for the kitchen.
He stopped in front of the stove, âLola.â
Dolores looked back and smiled, âAre you hungry? Dinner will be ready soon.â
Sampson didnât answer, just stared vacantly at her back.
Six years earlier, Dolores had insisted on no anesthesia, on getting pregnant. Sampson could only agree.
But, he had one condition, which was to get out of the country and return to Country A.
Dolores agreed and, with Sampsonâs help, they took Jessica Lennon with them.
Six years passed.
âIâm going back to the country in a couple of days.â
Dolores paused slightly, stirring her soup; the pain she felt six years ago still haunted her.
She pretended nothing was wrong, she didnât turn around, âWhatâs wrong?â
âWell, my sister got engaged,â still looking at Doloresâ back.
She turned; after giving birth to Samuel and Simona, Sampson told her that he had found his long lost sister.
Dolores had been happy for him.
âThatâs good, you should come back.â Dolores said.
Still looking deeply at her, âSheâs engaged to Matthew Nelson.â Bang!
The spoon in her hand slipped and fell to the floor, shattering into countless pieces.
She hurried to squat down to pick them up, âHe has nothing to do with me anymore.â
Six years had been too long, she had even forgotten that this man had ever existed in her life.
Now, she just wanted to take care of her two children.
She was confused, hadnât Matthew married Helen White six years ago?
How could he now marry Sampsonâs sister?
She looked at him as if it were a meaningless inquiry.
Sampson returned her gaze and pursed his lips, âIâm sorry, I hadnât told you.â
Dolores frowned, âWhat are you keeping from me?â
No sooner had she said that than she thought of something, then she widened her eyes and said her guess, âHelen is your sister?â
âYes.â That year he helped Dolores investigate the incident that night and learned what had happened that night from an employee at the hotel there. She probed further and found out what role Helen played.
She never liked dishonest people, like Helen. It was just that coincidentally, Helen was also in Country A, so they had crossed paths.
They didnât have any interaction, but it was because she was wearing a spaghetti-strap skirt, showing a green birthmark on her shoulder, that caught his eye.
Her missing sister also had the same green birthmark on her shoulder.
To find out, he did some in-depth research on Helen. She discovered that Helen had grown up in an orphanage without her parents. At first, he was just curious that Helen had the same birthmark as his missing sister. Naturally, he wanted to know more about her.
But when he learned that she was an orphan, Sampson had an idea: she might be his long-lost sister, so he began stalking her, collecting her hair and saliva sample for DNA testing.
The result proved that she really was his sister.
He knew his sisterâs secret, he also knew that she liked Matthew Nelson.
He had kept it to himself, never telling Dolores, not even once.
Sampson left Simona to play in the living room.
Simona nodded and ran into the living room on her short legs, âIâll wait for my brother to come back, I want to play with him.â
âHey, slow down. Youâre going to fall.â Sampson gave her a tug, âSlow down.â Simona pouted, she was unhappy.
He let go of Simona and pinched her little nose, âBe good.â She walked into the kitchen and squatted down next to Dolores, holding her hand. âLet me take care of you, okay?â.
âI have two kidsâ¦â
âI donât careâ¦â
âIt matters to me.â Dolores looked at him. She didnât want to depend on anyone to take care of her children.
She knew Sampsonâs family wouldnât take her in.
Besides, she promised Mrs. Herbert that she would never be with him.
She smiled and let go of his hand, âGo to the parlor, dinner is almost ready.â
Sampsonâs heart sank. He may have seen her as his sister before, but these six years had made him fall in love with this brave, headstrong woman.
He didnât understand why she rejected him so harshly, leaving him no chance.
âYou like someone else, donât you?â he guessed, âThat man is Matthew, isnât he?â
Anyway, Matthew was the only man who appeared around her.
âNo!â She replied quickly as if proving she was telling the truth, âIf it wasnât for you, I would have long since forgotten that person.â
âThenâ¦â
âMom!â Simona rushed in and hugged Doloresâ neck, âMommy, when are brother and grandmother coming back?â
Simona came in and interrupted the conversation.
Dolores didnât want to talk about it anyway.
She took a quick glance at the clock and lifted Simona up with her arms, âSchool ends at 6:30, itâs 6:20 now, theyâll be back soon.â
Dolores set her down, âCome, be good. The kitchen is dangerous.â She held out her hands for Simona to see, âLook at mommyâs hand, are they dirty?â.
Simona blinked hard with her big eyes, âDirty.â
âSo youâll listen to Mom?â
âYes.â
Simona set her eyes low and sad. Dolores sighed and planted a kiss on her forehead, âMommy will give you a bath tonight, okay?â
Simonaâs eyes sparkled, âOkay.â
Dolores had no time to take care of her children, as she had to work during the day and study at night.
Jessica was the one who bathed them.
Her condition had been brought under control by Sampsonâs treatment. As long as they didnât provoke her, she would be normal like the others.
Jessica was able to take care of the children, which left Dolores more time to study. Doloresâ profession used to be a fashion designer. It took her a few years to get her diploma, getting a place in LEO to work.
She was very talented in this area, winning many awards for the dresses she designed. She even designed a wedding dress for the daughter of the leader of Country A, which amazed the whole country. She was now the head designer of LEO, where she also owned some shares.
Jessica finally brought Samuel in during dinner.
Samuel was about 5 years old, but he had an excellent memory and extreme calculation skills. He was very sensitive to numbers. Dolores, of course, had to cultivate his talent.
But Samuel himself did not fail his talent, and surprisingly passed the AC University exam.
AC was a world-renowned university in the field of computer science.
The electronic chips and processing systems developed here had long been popular in the world.
Compared to Simona, she herself was not very talented, like an average girl. She was just cute and cuddly.
Seeing Samuel back home, Simona ran to him happily, âBrother â¦â
