Chapter 20: 19

My Robotic BoyfriendWords: 8787

Ivy

My anxiety grew as the footsteps at the other side of the door grew louder. After leaving school today, I made sure to make my point clear to Trev that I was serious about what I said to him, by leaving school without him.

I was so done with him and his stupid obligation to protect his stupid Inc. No reason was solid enough to justify the fact that he wiped my memories clean! He tampered with my state of mind and made me look like a fool to everyone I talked to today.

I didn't sign up for that shit. All I wanted was a boyfriend, is that too much to ask? I needed someone who'd listen to me talk on and on about nerd stuff, someone who I can play brain quiz with, without him getting tired or bored, someone to hold when things get rough. Someone to do the relationship stuff with!

Lucifer really has it hard for me right?

One second, I've got a cool boyfriend the next, he wipes my memory, claiming to protect me.

Who would have thought that having a robotic boyfriend was way worse than having a normal one?

Ordering him was easy, but handling him, was like trying to distort a Rubik's cube.

My heart leapt in my chest when I heard the sound of the door unlocking.

The door pulled open revealing Kyle and his red-black-purple eye. "What are you doing here?" His expression wasn't inviting at all.

I gulped. "Hi Kyle... I come in peace." I answered, trying to lighten the thick atmosphere.

He stood there, staring at me, with his brows raised in question.

I sighed. "Can I come in?" I asked.

"Depends." He simply stated, crossing his hands over his chest. "Are you going to pretend like you don't remember anything? Or you're just here to see Roman?"

I opened my mouth to say something but nothing came out.

Kyle sighed, opening the door wider for me to come in, which I did.

When he shot the door behind me, I turned to him few seconds after he had made himself comfortable on their seafoam blue couch, scrolling away on his phone.

I wasn't actually here to see him though, my main purpose of coming here was to see Roman, I knew for sure that he and I could unravel whatever mystery was behind our memory loss, and now that I know Trevor was behind it, I was sure the truth was at the tip of our fingers.

"You look like you're doing better." I said, trying to gain Kyle's attention.

"Do I?" He replied without looking up.

Clearing my surprisingly sudden dry throat, I spoke. "I'm sorry... About this morning. Uh... I didn't mean to-"

I stopped talking when He sighed, dropped his phone and stood up, coming to stand in front of me. "You don't have to apologize Ivy."

"As a matter of fact, I do." I answered. "Trevor was on the wrong for hitting you, I'm sorry I pretended not to remember." I lied.

"It's okay, I Know how you get when you're nervous about discussing serious subjects."

I cocked a brow. "Really?"

"Yup," he shrugged. "Look Ivy, I'll tell you the truth. Trevor doesn't deserve you. He's a bully and a straight A jerk. He doesn't care about you. I'm not saying this to make you feel bad but- I just don't think he's good for you."

"I know- that's why I ended things with him today... He was a mistake." I sighed. "I guess I was just too eager to be in a relationship. As stupid as that sounds."

Kyle chuckled, still managing to sound and look cute with his red-black-purple eye. "It's not stupid. You just didn't choose the right guy, that's all... But I'm glad you realized the damages before it got too serious."

I smiled sadly.

Trevor wasn't really a real guy, he was a freaking robot, a robot who hurt me, both physically, mentally and emotionally.

"Hey," Kyle muttered. "You did the right, okay? Trevor doesn't deserve you, you deserve someone better, someone who cares about your feelings. Someone who actually likes you."

Him being this close to me and saying these sweet things, was weird... This was Kyle. My best friends boyfriend, the king of ICHS. "Thank you." I said, unsure of how to reply to him.

"You don't have to thank me, Ivy. You know- there's something I want to-"

"Ivy?"

My head turned to the direction of the voice to see Roman, looking from me to Kyle and from Kyle to me, with a confused look on his face. He was holding a glass of milk.

I still don't see the resemblance between the opposite twins. Kyle had sandy blonde hair with a sharp and attractive jawline. His eyes were the definition of fire blazing green. While Roman on the other hand, had coffee brown hair, with an equally sharp jawline, but his eyes were the bluest of blues.

The both of them were good looking but Kyle made sure to allow his good-looking face get him whatever he wanted. But Roman hid behind his all too professional glasses, drinking black coffee while the light of the computer reflected on his glasses.

They don't talk in school, neither do they go home together. They were like strangers. Most people didn't know the two boys were even related.

I stepped away from Kyle on impulse. "Uh... Hi Roman!"

"Hey. I was about to call you... About that computer thing." His mouth was saying one thing but his eyes were saying another.

"Oh, yeah... Uh. That's why I'm here." I answered, getting his message.

"So, you're ready?"

"Yeah sure." I answered, turning to Kyle. "Uh... We'll catch up later." I said before leaving with Roman.

Ethan

When I saw her shadowy figure approaching, a wave of relief hit me. I was currently at the secret tunnel to the willing sector, waiting for Fiona.

"Hey." She called out when she reached me.

I gave her a quick hug. "What kept you so long?"

She raked her hands through her red hair, "I'm sorry, the facility has guards all over the place. I had to be careful."

"Are you sure no one saw you?" I asked,  just to be sure.

"Do you know who you're talking to?" She smiled.

"Sorry, I forgot."

"So what's up? What was the urgent information?"

"Caramel... She's on the outside." I said, going straight to the point.

Her eyes widened. "Excuse me?"

"She's attending ICHS now. The institute has her installed there to watch me. Her Chip's turned red, she threatened to hurt Ivy if things got too complicated and right now, Ivy knows that we used LT wipe on her and she's determined to find out what we made her forget, and-"

"Hold- hold on. You need to slow down. What do you mean by Ivy found out about LT wipe? And why would the Inc send Caramel to hurt Ivy? Her chip turned red? Can you like go back to the beginning? I'm finding it pretty hard to understand everything you just said."

"We don't have much time Fiona. I'm also confused. It's all happening too fast, too soon."

"How the hell did Ivy find out about LT wipe?" She asked.

"I have no idea Fi. She's smarter than I thought. I thought this mission was going to be the easiest mission ever, but I'd rather choose house help over this."

"This is fucked up. How was she? Caramel."

"I don't know... Bad? She's aiming for the kill, Fi."

"Maybe I can talk to her." Fiona suggested.

"Her chip turned red. The caramel you once knew, is long gone. There's no talking to her. My only concern now is Ivy. She's in over her head with all this... I feel sorry for her."

"Anyone who gets associated with our kind should bid farewell to their normal lives. What are we gonna do about it?"

"I have no idea. I can talk to her- but I doubt she'd listen."

"Why don't you just tell her the truth?"

I gave her the are you serious look. "Haven't you been listening to a word I've been saying? Caramel is out there, waiting for it all to slip... She'll kill Ivy if I tell her anything about the Inc."

"Caramel would never hurt anyone, red chip, or not."

"You don't know that."

"Well, I believe that."

I wanted to believe it too, but I couldn't. I saw the look in her eyes when she said it... She wasn't bluffing... She meant it.

"I still don't get why the Inc would want to watch me? I'm not the first subject on a mission."

"Definitely Glory." She said.

I sighed. "Still, why did she let me out in the first place?"

She shrugged. "I can talk to Malcolm about it."

"No... I don't want to have anything to do with Malcolm."

Fiona sighed. "You can't be mad at him forever, you know that right?"

"He lied to me." I stated.

"Get over it."

"I wish it was that easy-"

At the sound of voices at the end of the tunnel, my head and that of Fiona's snapped to the direction.

"Shit. I have to go..." Fiona said.

"Yeah."

She smiled with a nod. "Talk to her, use the Ethan charm."

I tried to smile. "I'll try, see you soon."

We both went our separate ways.

How I wish talking to Ivy was also easy... She was just too stubborn for me to even comprehend.

But I had to do the needful.

Ivy was in danger and it was my job to protect her.

I want to protect her.
