Ivy
I watched as the girls took their positions on the field, while I sat on the bench with few other girls. Caramel was on the opposite team with Janie, while I was on a team with Fiona. The only difference between Fiona and I, right now, was that, I was on the bench while she was on the field, getting ready to play.
Honestly, I had no objection to that. I was glad, but I knew sooner or later, a girl would fake being hurt on my team and I'd be called to replace her, but for now, I guess I'd just chill on the bench. I'm safe here.
My eyes found Trevor at the basketball court. Now that I think of it, I shouldn't have given him that name. He was totally hotter than it. I should have given him something more hot, but would I blame myself? I wasn't thinking straight then. I never thought it would work, even if I thought it would, I never knew he would be this hot... I mean... That's a male looking wasabi.
I shook my head at my lame thoughts.
I got lost in staring at him; My eyes and heart loving the way he moved with such calculation and accurate speed, the way he looked over at his coach when ever his name was called. There was a smile provoking feeling about the way he raked his hands through his wavy damp hair, and the way he momentarily and unconsciously bite his thumb finger nail whenever he watched his team mate master the technique he taught them.
I watched as he caught the basketball firmly, when Kyle's best friend, Rosen, threw it ar him. I loved the look he threw to Rosen when Rosen blessed him with his infamous glare. I loved the way he looked back at Rosen when he passed him. I adored the way he shook his head in amusement, attempting to look away, only for his eyes to lock with mine.
My heart skipped a beat.
When his lips broke into a beautiful smile, I became thirsty. My heart was pumping too much blood into my veins and I could feel every inch of my skin heat up.
I looked away immediately, grabbing my water bottle. I opened the cap and brought the bottle to my lips, taking a large gulp of water to calm my beating heart.
I closed the bottle cap, stealing a glance at the basketball court, to find Trevor walking to his coach.
I sighed, looking away.
This wasn't healthy, the feeling I get whenever he smiles or even looks at me, it wasn't healthy... At all. I wasn't supposed to like him... Was I?
He isn't a robot right? What's the harm in liking him?
There's no harm, but now that I know that he isn't a robot, it only brought up the realization that he wasn't fully mine, he had full control of his feelings, he could choose to like me and at the same time, choose not to. He was just a normal guy with a robotic chip in his wrist. Seeing how things are; with me was the last place he wanted to be. But he had no choice. I paid for him, he was on a job, nothing more.
I bit my lower lip.
I have to stop thinking of him that way, it was wrong, I can't expect him to like me back, I've taken away his freedom, that was enough. It was more than enough.
My phone vibrated, it was a message from Roman.
Roman:
I found something.
3 min.
I glanced at my coach before punching in my reply.
Me:
What is it?
Just now.
I waited for his response. Did he find Trevor's parents? Was Trevor's name truly Ethan? My phone vibrated again. I glanced up at my coach to make sure her eyes weren't on me.
Roman:
It wasn't easy, cause I found a bunch of missing Ethan's. So I went as far back as eight to ten years... There was only six missing children recorded.
2 min.
Roman:
There are two with a striking resemblance to your boyfriend. Both ten years, both brothers... Twins. Nathan and Ethan Murray. They both went missing after the tragic fire at their house... I printed out the article. Meet me at the library whenever you can.
Just now.
I gulped down. Twins? Fire? What the hell happened to him?
The coach blew her whistle, pretty loud. Causing me to jump on my seat, almost dropping my phone to the ground. I looked up to find her glaring at me. Almost all eyes were on me, I guess it affected the boys game, cause they were stealing glances at our corner.
Shit.
"Throw that phone away and get your useless legs to the field, Now!" She yelled.
I groaned, keeping my phone and walked to the field with my head down.
Grumpy old witch! I cursed in my head. Did she really have to yell? Evil woman.
"Welcome to the game." Fiona smiled at me. I could see some beads of sweat on her forehead. "Did you see me out here? Turns out I'm pretty good with volleyball. They don't do this stuff back at my old school."
"Really? Where is it? I'd love to transfer there, ICHS is hell on Earth. Trust me."
She chuckled. "Have you been here all your life?" She asked.
"Yeah, ever since I spoke my first words. My parents thought I was too smart to stay back at home any longer. I personally think they wanted to get rid of me." I muttered.
She only chuckled.
"Alright, ants! Get yourself in position! And Tatiana, Get off my field, will you?" Our coach yelled at a girl from my team.
I knew I was gonna replace someone.
She blew the whistle. And the next thing I know, the ball was flying from our side then to theirs'. I tried to make a move by jumping to throw the ball to the other side, but someone else beat me to it, making me look so stupid.
My coach shot me that look of irritation, before looking away.
I sighed, determined to catch the next one.
My eyes looked for the person with the ball, in our opponents side, they widened when they saw the ball with Caramel, she had that deadly look in eyes, as they landed on me. I gave her the stink eye too, I wonder why she was looking at me like I killed her in her past life.
I stood, at alert, waiting for her to throw the ball.
A smirk pulled up at her lips.
Before I could comprehend what was happening, she threw the ball at an inhumane and unnatural speed, it was too fast for my brain to comprehend, so in my eyes, it happened in slow motion, the ball was coming straight for my face, even if I had tried to stop it, it would have left a bruise on my hand.
My eyes widened, as the ball flew with full freaking force to my face, I knew then and there that I would die. Yes, die... At that speed, if I knew my maths and science really well, the ball was capable enough to break my skull, it would affect my brain, causing internal bleeding, and then I'd be dead within seconds.
My feet were pinned to the ground, there was no time to even run.
This is it.
Suddenly, I felt a strong weight, push me away from that position, causing my feet to loose balance, soon enough, I felt myself on the wet grass.
Everything was blurry for some seconds.
I blinked to get back my vision.
Our coach blew her whistle pretty loud. Rushing over to the position I occupied earlier.
Girls had gathered to our side looking over at the girl who laid there- girl who laid there?
My eyes widened as I rushed to my feet. "Oh my God." I whispered out, Fiona laid there, touching her now bleeding nose.
"I'm okay, I'm all good." She wheezed out in pain.
"That's it for today, guys." Our coach announced, pulling Fiona to her feet.
I just stood there staring like an idiot, wondering why she wasn't dead. I never calculated wrong, I knew I was right, she should be severely injured.
Everyone began to leave the field. I watched our coach lead Fiona back inside the school, probably to the medical unit.
At such speed, that ball was meant to break a bone in the body. Fiona just injured her nose... Her nose? How strong could she be?
It wasn't normal, she shouldn't be okay.
Not that I wanted her injured or anything. It's just-
"Pity."
My thoughts were cut off when Caramel appeared, staring at Fiona.
I turned to her, seeing no single remorse in her eyes. Damnit! If that didn't make me more angry!
She wanted to provoke the she devil in me.
She smirked at me. "You don't know how bad I wished it was you in that position."
That threw my anger out of the window. What in hell did she mean by that?
