In the coffee shop.
Jack Amos, Wilton Edwards, and Charles Amos returned to their seats.
Jack Amos rubbed his lower back and looked at Charles Amos across the table.
Charles played chess by himself, his facial expression alternating between guilt and self-righteousness.
âCall your Uncle Clark and ask him to come back,â Jack Amos said to him as he watched his face change for the nth time.
âWhy?â
âWhy do you always ask why?â
Charles Amos looked at him and did not speak.
âEither you make the call, or I hit you,â Jack Amos said.
âWhy are you like this?â Charles frowned and said, âWhen other fathers and sons meet, they cry their hearts out, like they want to give the whole world to him, they like him so much. But you, you just want to hit me when we meet.â
Jack said, âDid I make the first move?â
âIt was me,â Charles admitted.
Jack raised his eyebrows.
Charles picked up the cell phone and called Kevin Clark, then put it on speakerphone.
Kevin quickly answered the call on the other end, but did not say anything.
Charles said, âUncle Clark, you left me here.â
âWilton Edwards, the driver, and the bodyguard are with you,â he replied.
âBut, butâ¦â Charles looked at Jack and said, âthe other person with the last name Amos said he wanted to hit me.â
Jack Amos:
Kevin Clark was silent for a moment and then said, âIâll call the police for you.â
Charles Amos:
Jack Amos chuckled, âWhere are you?â
Kevin didnât say anything after hearing his voice.
âCome back, Iâll take you to eat something delicious.â
Kevin Clark:
Charlotte Lane glanced at Kevin Clark.
No one spoke.
Charlotte Lane said, âWeâll be back right away.â
âOkay.â Jack laughed.
Less than three minutes after hanging up the phone, Charlotte brought Kevin back.
Kevinâs eyes were no longer red, and he was no longer angry, just silent.
Looking at his state, Jack laughed and said, âWhat do you want to eat? Iâll take you.â
âIâm thirty years old now,â Kevin reminded quietly.
Charlotte raised her eyebrows and laughed.
Kevin raised his hand and rubbed her head, âBe good.â
Jack looked at Charlotte and then at Kevin, âWhy bring up your age all of a sudden?â
âYouâre forty-two,â Kevin replied mercilessly.
Jack:
This time, Charlotte didnât laugh out loud but turned to Wilton Edwards and Charles Amos and said, âCharles, letâs take Grandpa Edwards and go to eat something delicious.â
Kevin:
âOkay.â Charles pulled Wiltonâs hand and walked towards the door, âI want chocolate ice cream.â
âMm.â
Kevin caught Charlotteâs hand, âDonât eat too much cold stuff.â
Charlotte pretended not to hear, and walked away with Charles. At the entrance, she said to Charles, âYou pay.â
âWhy are you like this?â
âAm I like this just today?â
The two men in the shop watched the childish and nutrient-free talk and saw the three leave.
Charlotte took Charles to the ice cream shop next door. Wilton Edwards sat with them for a while, then the driver took him back.
As Charlotte and Charles ate ice cream, she told him about Jack being Finn Clarkâs son.
Charlesâ eyes widened, âHeâs Second Uncle Davis!â
Charlotte:
âNo, Uncle Clark is Third Uncle,â Charles said, âSo, Grandfather and Grandmother are related by blood.â
âMm.â
âNo wonder Grandma was holding me and crying that day,â Charles said, âI thought it was because Uncle Clark had upset her.â
Charlotte laughed a little.
Charles was silent for a while and then asked, âCan I not call him âThird Uncleâ?â
Charlotte looked at him.
âHe is Mr. Clark,â Charles whispered.â
Charlotteâs expression paused for a moment and then said, âItâs up to you.â
The two of them finished their ice cream and sat in the store for a while before returning to the coffee shop.
Kevin Clark and Jack Amos were getting along peacefully.
Charles also brought some ice cream for them.
âWerenât you going to eat something delicious?â Charles asked, âWhat are you eating? How can three adults let a child go hungry for so long?â
Jack pointed to the two empty dessert boxes in the trash can, âWho ate these?â
âIâm not full.â
âWhose poor family is it that has met such a little foodie like you?â said Jack Amos, and then added, âOh, mine.â
Kevin laughed a little.
Jack said, âThey are having a barbecue in the back of the shop, want to eat?â
Kevin looked at Charlotte.
Charlotte said, âMm.â
The three adults took the child to the back of the shop. In addition to the barbecue, Jack also asked the Doomsday Hotel to send a lot of other food.
âWhen are we going home?â Kevin asked.
Jack took a sip of beer and hesitated before saying, âDonât tell our family for now.â
âWhy?â Kevin asked.
Jack heard him ask why, frowned and instinctively looked at Charles.
Charles was biting on a mutton skewer. When he saw him looking, he bit down on the stick, showing a row of small teeth and smiling at him.
Jack looked away, furrowed his eyebrows, and suddenly didnât know how to explain it to Kevin.
Telling him that not only had his appearance changed, but he had also gotten himself into such a state.
His parents used to take great pride in their son, who was once full of achievements, but now he had fallen to such a level.
Also⦠what he was doing now was very dangerous.
He didnât want his parents to bear the pain of losing their son twice.
Seeing his expression, Kevin seemed to understand his predicament and said, âI know.â
Jack looked at Kevin, smiled, and clinked beer glasses with him.
Although no words were spoken, the expression seemed to say, itâs still my little brother who understands me.
But he didnât expect to be tricked for the second time in just a few hours.
After drinking with Kevin, Jack went to the restroom for a while.
After washing his hands, he sent a message to Hugo Clark: [Are you still in Clark Manor?]
Hugo Clark: [Yes. Arenât you guys coming back? Grandma keeps talking about Charles.]
Kevin Clark: [Are your parents and Sister-in-law Wood there?]
Hugo Clark: [Mm.]
Kevin sent his current location: [Bring your grandparents, your parents, and Lily Parker here. Hurry up.]
So, an hour later, when Jack saw his parents, elder brother, sister-in-law, and his nephew and niece suddenly appear in front of himâ¦
His first reaction was to think that he had drunk too much and was hallucinating.
The second reaction was to look at Kevin Clark, then at Charles Amos, who was leaning against Kevin and almost falling asleep.
The two damn rabbits.
