âDad, Iâm wrong. Iâm wrong! I know Iâm wrong!â
Kevin Clarkâs breathless shouts came from the study room.
Daisy clenched her fingers and went upstairs anyway.
âOlivia, please persuade Arthur. Heâs still youngâ¦â Natalie Wayne hadnât finished speaking when the door of the study room was opened from inside.
Ethan Clark ran out on his own.
He cried fiercely, holding up his two filthy little hands swollen badly. The red, swollen marks on them were obviously caused by the ruler.
âMom.â
Seeing Daisy, Ethanâs crying became even fiercer.
He cried at the top of his throat.
Showing her his two hands as if telling on someone.
Tom Wayne and Calvin Stewart shed tears out of heartache, but neither of them moved.
Daisy hesitated for a moment and then picked him up.
Ethan leaned against her shoulder, crying so hard he could barely catch his breath. Daisy gently patted his back.
While he was crying upstairs, Noah Clark cried downstairs.
Olivia comforted him and glanced at the closed door of the study room. Then she said to Tom Wayne and the others, âDad, Mom, Sister-in-law Wood, Iâll take him to wash up first.â
âIâll go with you.â
Tom Wayne accompanied her to help Ethan take a bath and change his clothes. Then they put medicine on and bandaged his swollen hands.
Throughout the process, Ethanâs tears never stopped.
Arthur North was determined to teach him a lesson, not to the point of harming him but still quite heavy-handed.
Little children have tender skin, and during the bath, beads of blood seeped from the palms of his hands.
Applying medicine was also painful enough to make him cry.
Then Daisy pressed his hand and quickly applied the medicine.
About ten minutes later, the pain relief started working, and Ethan slowly stopped crying.
When the medicine was applied, everyone else who had gone to search for Ethan had returned.
Seeing Ethanâs beaten state, everyone was heartbroken.
But Theo Clark and the others believed that this was the real Arthur North, and only this Arthur North was normal.
The impact on Christopher Clark was huge, as he had never expected his father to be so heavy-handed towards his son.
Everyone had spent a sleepless night and, after returning, went back to catch up on sleep if they had nothing else to do.
Daisy and Christopher Clark also took the two kids back to North Court.
The two kids had cried so much that they couldnât eat. Daisy took them straight to sleep.
âMom, letâs sleep together,â Ethan Clark said, sitting on the bed and looking at Daisy.
His throat was hoarse from crying.
âOk.â Daisy put them both on the bed and then lay down next to them.
She touched Noahâs little head and then looked at Ethan, âDoes it still hurt?â
âA little,â Ethan Clark replied.
âIf you hadnât been found today, it would have been far more than just pain in your hands,â Daisy said softly. âThe lesser consequence is that you never see your grandparents, parents, brothers, and sisters again. The greater consequence is that your little heart, eyes, and organs are dug out and sold. They are hundreds of times more painful than now, and you will die.â
Ethan blinked his swollen eyes and, after a while, said in a hoarse voice, âI wonât run away again. I will never run away again. That bad guy was really scary. He scolded and hit me, and he didnât let me make a sound.â
Daisy had seen the bruises on his arm while bathing him, which were not caused by the beating but by pinching.
âThen I stopped talking. I knew you would definitely come to save me.â Ethan Clark said.
âYou were lucky this time.â Daisy pushed his hair aside, âWhen you were missing for so long, he could have done a lot in that time, and in minutes he could have taken your life.â
Noah was also scared to listen and rolled over to hug Ethan.
âMom, I was wrong,â Ethan Clark held Noahâs hand.
âYeah. What else?â Daisy asked.
Ethan Clark looked at her thoughtfully.
âThe bowl-lifting incident,â Daisy said flatly.
Kevin Clark didnât say a word.
âGrandma loves you and pities you so she gives you food,â said Charlotte Lane coldly, âYou can communicate with Grandma if you donât like it, but who taught you to overturn the bowl?â
Kevin Clark still didnât say anything.
âYour behavior was very impolite and not well-mannered,â Charlotte Laneâs words were heavy.
She scolded Kevin Clark and herself.
Tears were floating in Kevin Clarkâs eyes again.
âThis is just Grandma giving you a gentle slap. If it were me, Iâd hit you so hard that you wouldnât be able to eat tomorrow,â said Charlotte Lane.
âI was wrong,â said Kevin Clark, choking up.
âIf you ever overturn a bowl again or disrespect your elders, you wonât have this hand anymore,â said Charlotte Lane.
âI wonât do it again, I wonât ever do it again. Iâll go apologize to Grandma later,â Kevin Clarkâs small chest heaved.
Charlotte Lane didnât say anything and watched him cry.
When he finished crying, she took him to wash his face and asked, âDo you want to sleep for a while?â
âYes.â
âNoah will sleep together, too.â Charlotte Lane lay down, her arm around the two children, looking at them.
The two kids, who didnât sleep much last night, cried again.
When Kevin Clark cried, Noah Clark cried too.
These two little ones had never experienced such hardship before. Now that they had calmed down, they fell asleep quickly.
Watching them sleep, Charlotte Lane touched their little faces and then gently got out of bed and left the room.
Outside the room, Christopher Clark had been waiting.
Seeing her come out, he asked, âAre they asleep?â
âYes.â
âHowâs Kevin Clark feeling?â Christopher Clark asked.
âHe was just slapped a couple of times, how could anything be wrong?â said Charlotte Lane indifferently.
Christopher Clarkâs mouth twitched twice: âHe bled. Your eyes were red with pity just now. I saw it.â
Charlotte Lane looked at him.
Christopher Clark coughed lightly and after a moment, said with some relief, âLuckily, when I went to Truro City alone back then, my father was still pursuing you, and I hadnât been accepted back into the Clark Family. Otherwise, I would have been too miserable.â
âI donât mind giving you a belated experience now,â Charlotte Lane said coldly.
âThereâs no need for that,â Christopher Clark laughed.
âHave you eaten?â Charlotte Lane asked.
âYes,â said Christopher Clark, âGrandma saved you some food, but my father is still in the study and hasnât come out.â
âAlright, you go sleep for a while too.â
âIâll sleep with my younger brother and sister,â Christopher Clark said, worried that Kevin Clark might wake up and look for someone.
âAs you wish.â
Charlotte Lane went to the Main Courtyard. Natalie Wayne had saved her some food and asked her to eat first.
Charlotte Lane glanced at the study and Natalie nodded. Elina Clark was humming and not talking.
He just knocked on the door, but there was no response. There was no respect for him as a father. He really spared the rod when raising his child.
âDid you lock it?â asked Charlotte Lane to Natalie Wayne.
âI donât know, no one dared to open it,â whispered Natalie Wayne.
Elina Clark was even angrier upon hearing this. He didnât even dare to open the door. He was ashamed of the degree to which he feared his son.
âIâll go upstairs and eat with Arthur North,â said Charlotte Lane.
âAlright, you go check on him,â said Natalie Wayne, leading her to the kitchen. âThis family really depends on you.â
Charlotte Lane smiled and lowered her head.
Elina Clark, upon hearing her words, couldnât save face anymore, even his mustache trembling.
She was pointing this out to him with her words.
His glorious image was ruined by that b*stard Arthur North.
