"Mr. Lee, donât get angry. I know you may not believe the sudden news, but you have to believe me. Iâm telling the truth." Harley explained in haste.
Hearing Harleyâs words, Maximilian burst out laughing. Harley was nothing but a fence sitter, and how would Maximilian believe him? Harleyâs credit wasnât even worth a dollar.
"Why shall I believe you?" Maximilian questioned.
Harley looked a little embarrassed. Thinking of his bad reputation, Harley got straight to the point, "Actually, your parents are still alive, but they have been held prisoners by Dragon Queen."
Hearing the news, Maximilian hated Dragon Queen even more, no matter Harley was telling the truth or not.
Finally, it was when Harley said something about Maximilianâs childhood that Maximilian began to take his words seriously. In the past, Maximilian had believed that Dragon Queen was his natural mother, but later, Maximilian realized that Dragon Queen was definitely not. His natural mother must be somebody else.
Maximilian said nothing but plunged in thought. Harley ventured, "Mr. Lee, what I said is true. You have to believe me."
"If you want me to believe you, itâs quite simple. Tell me where they are. Once I rescue them, Iâd believe you." Maximilian said flatly.
The moment Harley heard Maximilianâs words, he gave a bitter smile, saying, "Mr. Lee, youâre putting me in a difficult position. I overheard the news from Dragon Queen when she was drunk. How would I dare to ask about it?"
"In that case, youâre lying." Maximilian said in a nonchalant tone.
Harley rolled his eyes. What sort of logic was that? As long as Maximilian didnât rescue his parents, then Harley must be lying. Harley had thought that he was the one being unreasonable, but never expected that he would meet someone who was even more unreasonable.
Maximilian read Harleyâs thoughts and said with a smile, "I learn from the best. After all, the best way to deal with the evil is to learn from them."
"Well, give me a few more days, and Iâll definitely get that answer for you." Harleyâs forehead was dripping with perspiration. He was trying his best to be let off.
Maximilian said, "Fine, Iâll give you a few more days. If you fail to get that answer in these days, donât blame me for being hard on you."
Harley got delighted all of a sudden. As long as he got out of this place, he would just run away and never talk to Maximilian anymore. At this thought, a smile climbed upon Harleyâs face.
Maximilian had long expected this. He stared at Grace and said, "I wonder if you have some kind of poison that will be ineffective once he takes the antidote within time limit. Give him one of those."
"Are you the daughter of the master wizard of Western Regions?" Harleyâs face was distorted the moment he heard the word "poison". He cast a shocked look at Grace.
Grace gave a cold smile. "You do have a good memory. If you hadnât asked someone to threaten my father, he wouldnât have died."
Harley didnât know what to say. He blamed it on karma, and today it was his turn to pay the price. He never expected that such a thing would happen to him too.
Now he realized why Grace hated his guts. Now that he knew the reason, Harley didnât feel regretful at all.
Grace thought to herself. Instead of a quick death, it was better to have Harley suffer before he died. At this thought, Grace took out a green pill immediately and said, "After you take this pill, youâll be fine in seven days. But if you donât take the antidote in time after seven days, your whole body will go rotten."
"What? My whole body will go rotten?" Harley had also heard that the witchcraft from Western Regions was quite awful. But once he learned the effect, he couldnât stay calm any longer. After all, he was the one to take the poison.
Maximilian smiled and asked, "You have the antidote, donât you?"
"I have two kinds of antidotes. The first one is a one-off antidote, while the second one can put off the toxic effect. I have enough of the second kind."
Hearing that, Harley couldnât help giving a wry smile. He wondered if this was good news or bad news.
Maximilian said flatly, "You can come to me to take the second kind of antidote in seven days. Of course, if you get the information I want, I can also give you the one-off antidote."
Harley went into a panic. Once he took the second kind of antidote, he was totally under Maximilianâs control. He could never take that antidote.
"Well, is there any other way?" Harley asked subconsciously, wanting to get a better way to free himself.
Maximilian taunted, "Thereâs an easy way. You can die."
Harley heard that, his lips twitching. He would die anyway, so it was better for him to take a chance.
Harley snatched that green pill and swallowed it.
Maximilian saw him swallow it and nodded with satisfaction.
Harley couldnât feel bitterer. He had wanted to use the poison on Maximilian, but unexpectedly, he himself fell into the trap. It seemed that when he got out of this place, he had to look for someone else to give him the antidote.
Arms crossed, Grace said proudly, "Iâm the one who developed the poison with care, so except me, nobody else has the antidote."
Harley was stunned, but didnât quite believe her words. Even if there was only a gleam of hope, he would still have a try.
Harley couldnât help but ask, "Well, how will I come to you to get the antidote if I donât have your contact details?"
"This is my name card. Call me when time is nearly up." Maximilian tossed a name card to Harley.
Harley took the name card and didnât dare to throw it away. He said cowardly, "You have to give me the antidote as soon as possible. If I died, you wouldnât get the information either."
Maximilian squinted his eyes and said, "First of all, I need to make a correction. This information is not essential to me, and I donât take it seriously."
Harley had wanted to gain himself some initiative, but was choked by Maximilianâs words right away.
Now Harley was totally lost for words.
When Harley left, Vinnie suddenly walked up to Connor and whispered something in his ear.
When Connor heard that, his face turned livid and he shouted coldly, "Bring Gallagher here."
Before long, a strong man with a dragon tattoo came under guard. Gallagher was confused. "Boss Davies, whatâs going on?"
"How dare you ask me whatâs going on?" Connor threw a ferocious stare at Gallagher and apologized to Maximilian with his hands folded in front of his chest, "Mr. Lee, Iâm sorry I didnât discipline my men well. This guy almost revealed our identities to Harley. It would cause a big trouble if our identities were found out ahead of time."
Maximilian didnât say anything. After all, this was Connorâs man, but Maximilian didnât feel pity for traitors at all.
Connor came straight to the point and played by the rules. Gallagher was punished and put on the blacklist by Connor.
