Alyssa
âOh no, weâre stuck in here with him!â Dahliaâs voice was laced with fear.
âYou looked scared dearie,â Devin laughed as he gave me a devilish smile. He was playing with me.
âHow are you doing this?â I demanded him.
âYou mean, how is my face a dragon, but my body is still sexy?â Devin laughed. âWhat so you think?â
âThey experimented on you!â The flash of realization hit me like a ton of bricks.
âDING DING DING! We have a winner!â Devin smiled.
I stayed as far away from him as I could. Maybe if I keep him talking, he wonât burn me alive. I hope that Alexandria and Izzy can break down the door.
âWhy are you helping them? Look at what they did to you!â I said.
âThey made me stronger, Alyssa. More powerful than you!â Devin flexed his body.
âYou think I canât see how much pain you are in right now,â I said.
âA small sacrifice for so much power. When I was human, I was nothing!â Devin growled. âNow look at me!â He extended his arms as he basked in his glory. âIâM PERFECTION!â
Wait, did he say human? I thought they only experimented on magical beings.
âYou were human?â My face showed a shocked expression.
âSurprise,â Devin winked.
âYou said something before. Sozin? Who is that?â I asked him.
âWe are his warriors!â Devin roared. Devin pulled on the chain that kept him locked. With three powerful pulls, the chains snapped; they now hung around his wrists. He smiled at me with his deformed mouth. âEnough talking!â
He lunged at me, teeth bared. I barely managed to dove to the side, so he only grabbed air. âDevin, you donât have to do this,â I pleaded for him to stop.
âOh, but I do dearie,â Devin laughed maniacally.
âDahlia, can we transform in here?â I started panicking. âI need you!â
âThe room is too small! We canât do anything!â Dahlia panicked.
âI know what your thinking, dearie. This room is too tiny to turn. I can use most of my powers without shifting entirely,â Devin cackled.
I could see fire building up in his throat. Without thinking, I dove at him. I was on top of him and punched him in the face as hard as possible. I yelled out as I felt the bones in my hand breaking on the impact of his hard scales. I could hear the devilish laugh from Devin as he heard me cry out. He pushed me off him.
âYou really arenât the brightest are you sunshine?â Devin scoffed.
Devin then grabbed me by the neck and threw me across the room. I hit the wall hard before falling to the floor. He picked me up the hair, and I screamed in pain, as it felt like my scalp would be torn off.
He slammed me hard against the wall, holding my neck with one arm. I tried to loosen the hold, but he was too strong. My lungs were screaming for oxygen.
I remembered his broken arm, which he held close to his body. I grabbed his broken hand and twisted it as hard as possible. Devin screamed in pain and released his hand from my throat. I collapsed to the ground and gasped for air.
âYOU FILTHY BITCH!â I saw Devinâs eyes glow bright red, and once again, a fire built up in his throat and fired a fireball that I barely managed to avoid. I could feel the air getting thinner; his fire magic was burning up the oxygen. I could see that this affected Devin; I kept seeing him taking short breaths.
âYouâll kill us both if you keep breathing fire!â I coughed.
âI donât care if I die. Iâm willing to pay the price if it means you die with me!â Devin sneered.
âWhy do you want to kill me so badly?â I said.
âBecause you ruined everything! When you escaped, they stopped giving me injections. This pain Iâm in is because of you!â Devin said.
Then, he threw a punch that I quickly avoided. I kicked him hard on his ribs in retaliation. I grabbed his side.
âYouâre blaming me for what they did to you! Youâre fucking insane!â I said.
âMaybe,â Devin knocked me to the ground, and now he was on top of me. My unbroken hand was stuck between my body and his leg. He sat on top of me, smiling down at me. I saw the door turning red from the corner of my eye. Alexandria and Izzy were melting the door, but I knew they wouldnât arrive. âIt was good seeing you again; say hello to the Moon Goddess,â Devin said. He closed his eyes momentarily, and I wondered what he was doing. I soon saw his jaw getting bigger, and his teeth grew bigger. He could take my head off in one bite if he wanted to.
âDahlia, help me. Do somthing!â I begged her.
Out of desperation, I placed my broken hand on his chest, trying to push him off me. Devin laughs at my futile efforts and opens his mouth.
I could feel tears streaming down my eyes. This was not how I wanted to die, not that I ever wanted to die, just not like this.
âHOLD ON WE ARE COMING, ALYSSA!â Isabella yelled. I knew they would not get here in time. I cried out in pain when I tried to push harder with my broken hand. His mouth was now centimeters from my face, and I could see way down his throat. Then his mouth closed, and he looked at me all puzzled.
âWhat are you doing?â Devinâs voice was very understandable. He then screamed in pain and placed his hand on his chest; my hand was glowing golden light. I looked back at Devin and saw a hole in his shirt. Devin looked startled. I managed to stand up as he got off me and took a few steps away from him. I could feel the heat radiating off my hand. I felt the broken bones in my hand start putting themselves back in place. It hurt at first, but the pain quickly passed. âDahlia, are you doing this?â
âNo, we are!â Dahlia said.
Devin was not expecting me to fight back, but he quickly got over his shocked expression, and anger swiftly took over. He lunged at me once again. I reached out my glowing hand and concentrated its energy on him; the light shined brighter, and a beam of light shot out of my hand and hit Devin in the chest. He flung back and crashed into the wall; he fell to the ground and didnât get back up. A few moments later, the door fell.
âALYSSA! Are you alright?â Izzy said as she ran in with Tristan and Alexandria. âAlyssa?â
I soon realized that my hand was still outstretched and glowing golden light.
âAlyssa, are you alright?â Alex said. âAlyssa, look at me,â
âHeâs dead,â Tristan said as he checked Devinâs pulse.
âHeâs dead, itâs okay,â Izzy said.
âI-I killed him!â I breathed hard.
âGood fucking riddence if you ask me,â Alex looked at Devinâs dead body. âNow, may be you please put your hand down, before you blow someone or somthing up,â Alexandria said.
I looked at my glowing hand and gently put my arm down. With a few deep breaths, I returned my hand to normal. âHow the hell did you do that?â Izzy asked.
âI donât know,â I said as I looked at Devin. His face was still like a deformed dragon, but his eyes had lost all the color, nothing but black eyes. I donât know what I think next, but I ran outside. As I exited the prison, I threw up. Izzy was by my side, holding my hair back.
âWhat the hell happened?â Scott said.
âThe fire dragon is dead,â Alex shook her dead.
âI thought we were trying to get information, not kill him,â Scott scoffed.
âI wasnât the one that killed him,â Alex said.
âThen who did?!â Scott breathed out.
âI killed him,â I said softly.
âDamn girl, isnât that three dragon in the last day?â Scott smiled.
âThat was uncalled for,â Alex smacked Scott on the head. âWhat the hell happened in there,â Alex asked me.
âGive her some space, Alexandria! She almost died because of your great idea!â Isabella growled.
âHe was severely beaten, chained to the fucking floor, and had draconite around his damn neck. That should have been enough to keep him docile,â Alex said.
âShould have beenâ is not an excuse! You should have never put her in there in the first place!â Izzy shouted.
âGuys, stop. I just vomited everything I ate from last week,â I said.
âGot get somthing to eat with Isabella, we will talk later,â Alex said.
âNow that is the smartest thing youâve said all day,â Izzy growled, taking me back to her house. âTake a shower and borrow some of my clothes. I looked at my tattered clothing; most of it was singed.
âAnnabeth, Iâm home!â Izzy said.
âOh thank the goddess, I was getting worries as you haven;t been answering my-â Annabeth soon caught a glimpse at my appearance. My hair is a mess; I have torn, blood-covered clothes, and to top it all off, I have some vomit in my hair.
âGreat eastern fairies, what the hell happened to you?!â Annabeth covered her mouth in horror.
âIâll let Isabella explain. I need a shower,â I walked to the bathroom and removed my clothes. I stepped into the shower and turned the water on. I allowed the hot water to run down my back, washing away the dirt and dried blood on my body and watching it disappear down the drain. I looked at my wholly healed hand, but I still had cuts and bruises all over my body.
âThe light heals,â I could feel Dahlia smile.
âOr kills,â I added.
âYou had no other choice; it was him or us,â Dahlia growled. âHis soul is burning in hell for all of eternity,â
I stayed in the shower for a while, thinking of the events from the last day. I killed three dragons. Zayne is dead, and Rosetta is fighting for her life and these strange powers. Here, I could have a better life, marry Vincent, become his queen, and give birth to his children.
âWe could still have that future, you know,â Dahlia cooed.
âWe almost died twice tonight, how could we ever hope for a better future?â I screamed in my head.
âWe fight for it, all the shit weâve been through together, we deserve happiness,â Dahlia said.
Whatever these powers were, they are something I have to work on.
Vincent
The nurse said I was sedated because of my outburst at the news of my dadâs death. I feel the pain of losing my dad; the bond I shared with my father broke when he died, and I felt a piece of me went with him. âI hope you found peace in the embrace of the goddess Dad,â I said.
I tried to get out of bed and start walking. I have to find Alyssa. My connection to her is weak, but I feel sheâs in pain and emotionally hurting. âDonât even think about getting out of bed,â My sister ordered. I looked at the door and saw Alexandria giving me her stare. âI will have the doctor sedate you again.
âOkay, I wonât. I wanted to apologize to Alyssa. So itâs true, dad is really gone?â I said.
Alex sat right next to me and hugged me. âYeah, I still donât have any news on Mom. Those rat bastards havenât told me anything for ages. I think sheâs still in surgery,â
âAny idea whoâs behind this?â I asked her. Alex rubbed her neck and smiled. âThereâs something youâre not telling me,â
Alexandria then told me the events that had transpired in the last few hours. The drawing she found in the study with Isabella incriminates the same people that took Alyssa and her killing that fire dragon when she was locked inside with him.
âWhere is she now?â I asked.
âI told Izzy to bring her to the hospital over the phone a while ago, but I donât think they are here.â Alex said.
I got up, faced Alex, and punched her in the face. âHow dare you put my mate in danger like that! She almost died!â I roared.
âI was desperate for answers, I know I screwed up. Please calm down,â Alex said.
âCalm down? CALM DOWN! You jeopardized the life of my soulmate. You have no right to tell me to calm down! I need to see if sheâs alright,â
âIt wonât help her if you get herself hurt looking for her. You are not leaving this hospital until the doctors say you can,â Alex said.
âBut-â
âI AM NOT LOSING YOU TOO!â Alexandria shouted, and it took me by surprise.
âIs everything alright in here?â Dr. Solus walked into my hospital room with another doctor.
âWeâre fine,â Alex quickly composed herself.
âGood. Jacob told me you were in here, Alex. I have news on your mother; she is out of surgery,â Dr. Solus smiled.
âSheâs alive?!â I beamed a quick smile.
âShe is. This is Dr. Turner, she the oe who was oparting on your mother,â Dr. Solus said.
âBy the time we stabilize her, your mother lost a lot of blood. The bullet almost hit her heart, but it did damage around it, and the next two days are critical. We are keeping her in a medical induced coma, so her body can focus on healing. Itâs too soon to tell if she will make it,â Dr. Turner said.
âThank you Karliah,â Dr. Solus said before she left the room.
âYou sure there is nothing we can do?â Alex said.
âDr. Turner is one of the best surgeons in the world. Add the fact that she is a witch, sheâs damn good at her job,â Dr. Solus vouching for his friend and colleague. âGet some rest, especially you, Alexandria.
âAlright, Iâll see you later, Vinnie,â Alex smiled.
âTake care of everyone, Alex. Protect them all,â I said.
Alex smiled and then closed the door behind her as she left.
âNow, letâs have a look at you,â Dr. Solus said. âYour shoulder seems to be healing well; there will be some scarring but nothing major,â
âBut can I leave?â I said with annoyance.
âI donât recommend that,â Dr. Solus said.
âThen how long do I have to stay?â I huffed.
âBed rest for the next two days. Give Astarot the time he needs to recover his powers. Can you reach him?â Dr. Solus asked.
âFuck off, Iâm busy healing him,â Astarot said as he took control briefly.
âWell, that answers my question. I will check on you tomorrow to see if we can compromise for your early release,â Dr. Solus said. âI will send it Jacob, he wants to speak with you,â
âUnderstood,â I nodded. Dr. Solus left the room and, in his place, came in my best friend, Jacob.
âHey bro, how are you holding up?â Jacob said.
âLike shit. I screamed at Alyssa,â I said with shame.
âYeah, I wonât lie to you, man; that wasnât pretty,â Jacob laughed nervously.
âI want to apologize, but the doctors wonât let me leave,â I said.
âShe will forgive you, you know. Alyssa knew you were hurting; she knows the pain of losing a parent. Have you tried calling her?â Jacob said.
âI donât know where my phone is,â I said. âI also tried to use the mind link but couldnât get through,â
âUse my phone,â Jacob smiled as he dialed Alyssaâs number and handed me his phone.
âHello?â Alyssa said.
âAlyssa, Iâm so happy to hear your voice.â I said.
âVincent? Why do you have Jacobâs phone?â Alyssa asked me.
âThatâs not importent right now, I want to apoligize for what I said to you,â I said.
âIâm not mad, Vincent. I understand the pain of losing a parent. Donât worry, Iâm not angry at you,â Alyssa said.
âCan you come over? I want to see you in the flesh, to know youâre alright,â I said.
âI see Alex told you to want happened; Iâll be over at the hospital in a bit,â Alyssa said. She hung up, and I gave the phone back to Jacob.
âShe will be here soon,â I smiled.
