Alyssa
I walked into the hospital late at night and found Dr. Solus writing down information on the whiteboard for his staff. He turned around and was surprised to see me. âAlyssa?â
âDr. Solus. Iâm just here to see if Vincent is alright,â I told him my intentions.
âBetter that you come to him rather than him going to find you,â He groaned. âAlexandria asked me if you had come to see me, did somthing happen?â
âYou could say that,â I shook my head. âI have a few scraps and bruises,â
âWhy donât I take a look before you see Vincent?â Dr. Solus offered.
âOkay,â I said. I knew Dr. Solus would continue bugging me until I said yes. He is a great doctor; I trust him. We arrived at his office, and he took out medical supplies for anything he might need while checking me out.
âSo what happened?â Dr. Solus asked.
I told him about my fight with Devin, how I was forced to kill him, and how my broken hand healed with golden light.
âDo you know Professor Reid at the academy?â Dr. Solus said.
âHeâs one of my teachers,â I nodded.
âI would talk to him about this golden light from your hand. He can help you,â Dr. Solus said.
âI will,â I said.
âNow, your hand shows no signs that it ever broke. Whatever this power is, itâs powerful. You can go, but be careful.â Dr. Solus said.
âI will,â I smiled as I left his office. I walked into Vincentâs room, and Vincentâs face glowed with happiness.
âHey,â I smiled.
âHi, baby girl,â Vincent said.
âSorry if I took a while; Solus wanted to make sure I wasnât hurt,â I explained.
âThatâs fine, as long as you are safe,â Vincent said. âAlexandria should never have made you do that,â
âDonât blame her, I agreed to it,â I said. âIâm sorry about your father. Howâs your mother?â
âSheâs out of surgery, but sheâs in a coma. The doctors donât know for how long,â Vincent breathed calmly. âAre you sure those dragons are the same people that took you?â
âPositive!â I nodded. âAlexandria told me the other dragons also had the same tattoo,â I said.
âHow are you holding up?â Vincent asked.
âIâm not the one in the hospital,â I folded my arms. âShouldnât I be asking you that question?â
âYou killed a few dragons, Alyssa. Thatâs not easy for anyone,â Vincent said.
I broke down crying when he said those words. I let the emotions flow out that I had been trying to keep closed off. The last day has been difficult, and it caught up with me. I felt Vincentâs embrace, and I sat on his lap, sobbing. We lay on the hospital bed together, and he held me close. âEverything will be okay,â Vincent kissed my forehead.
âWhat if they come after me again,â I said.
âI will kill them all. No one will take you from me. You are MINE and mine alone,â Vincent growled. Vincent held me closer, and I rested my head on his bare chest, listening to his heartbeat. I quickly fell asleep.
I woke up with the sun on my face. I was sleeping on Vincent; I listened to his soft breath. He looked peaceful, but I could still feel inner turmoil. I tried to get out of bed without waking him up. I ended up falling on the floor.
âWhat in the world were trying to do?â Vincent woke up.
âGetting out of bed without waking you up,â I said.
âAnd how did that work out for you?â Vincent laughed.
âYouâre awake, so the plan didnât work out. Iâm fine, by the way, just my pride is damaged,â I said. I got up from the floor.
âAh, Vincent, god to see youâre awake,â Dr. Solus said, walking in.
âCan I go home now?â Vincent asked.
âWeâll see; let me have a look,â Dr. Solus used spells to see if anything was wrong with Vincent. âSeems Astarot is healing your wounds well, but I would recommend staying for at least one more day,â
âOh, COME ON! I promise I will behave,â Vincent pouted.
âWith all due respect, your highness, thatâs a lie,â Dr. Solus arched an eyebrow.
âIâm his mate, Iâll make sure he behaves,â I smiled.
âNow her, I believe,â Dr. Solus said. âYou can go, but I want to see you in two days. Alyssa, take good care of him until we have more information on the Queen; Vincent may become the last living white dragon,â Dr. Solus left.
Vincentâs head lowered. âIf my mom doesnât make it, weâll have another thing in common. Weâll both be the last of our kind,â
Vincent put on his clothes. Vincent soon took my hand and pulled me towards him. His lips came crashing onto mine. âHold me,â he whispered. I hadnât realized how much I needed him to kiss me until he did. For a moment, everything was perfect, no worries, no painâjust me and him.
Vincent was lucky that he had clothes for home. Otherwise, he would have had to borrow some of the hospitalâs clothes, and I knew that Vincent didnât want to bring what he was wearing home with him. I secretly knew we wanted to burn them.
We returned to the castle, and it was obviously on high alert. You could see guards covering every door in and out of the palace. They let us inside but then returned to their post. âIt strange to see so many guards,â I said, shaking a little.
âAlexandria has increased security around the palace,â Vincent said. âI donât blame her,â Vincent then walked forward.
âWhere are you going?â I said.
âI need to speak with Alex,â Vincent said.
âYou need to get into your room and stay in bed,â I said.
âAnd I will do that when I am done talking to my sister,â Vincent huffed.
And he calls me stubborn. I followed Vincent to his fatherâs study, and Alex was reading through a book with her fatherâs name on it. âAlex!â
âShouldnât you be in the hospital, Vincent?â Alex asked him.
âI got discharged,â Vincent answered.
âUnder the promise that you stay in your bed,â I added.
âBlabbermouth,â Vincent snickered as I rolled my eyes at him.
âVincent?â Alex raised an eyebrow and crossed her arms. âForget it, youâre here, so we might as well talk, then you get some rest,â
âDeal. So, how do we know someone got into the study without being seen?â Vincent said.
âIâve got the best investigators on it, but so far, there have been no leads,â Alex said. âThey have no idea how the killer got inside,â
âWhat about the dragons that got inside yesterday?â Vincent said.
âWell, I did want to ask Alyssa what the fuck happened in that cell,â Alex gestured to me.
âRight, somehow, the prisoner was immune to draconite and could shift only his face!â I said.
âImpossible!â Vincent gasped. âLike face morphing?â
âNot exactly, he whole face turned into a dragon,â Alex said.
âAnd he could breathe fire,â I interrupted.
âWhat the hell!!!â Vincent then looked at Alex with pure hate and rage.
âStop looking at me like that. I said I was sorry,â Alex said.
âThere was something else I forgot to mention. Devin told me he was mortal,â my breath hitched again as this fact scared me.
âYou mean???â Alexâs face was paralyzed with fear.
âThey are experimenting on humans,â I said sadly.
âDid dad ever mention missing humans?â Vincent turned to Alex.
âNot to my knowledge. Iâve been reviewing his notes, and there are no mentions of missing humans. How the hell did he miss this?â Alex banged on the table.
âNormal people go missing all the time due to many reasons. No wonder Zayne didnât see this fact,â I said.
âWho was the other Elder that father was working with?â Vincent said.
Alexandria opened the book she was reading and found a name. âHis name is King Akhenaten, Leader of Aksum,â
âThe Dragon Kingdom in Africa?â I said.
âCorrect. He and our father are - were childhood friends,â Alex said.
âDoes Akhenaten know that dadâs dea?â Vincent said.
âNo, that information is still contained. I wanted to talk to Alyssa first before speaking to the leaders of the other six kingdoms, and I have to meet with the Elder Council.
âDonât you mean that I have to speak with the Elders, as the heir to the throne-â But Vincent was interrupted.
âDad made me the next heir, I, Princess Alexandria Callahan, will be the Queen of Varrfarrinn,â Alex said.
Vincent was stunned by the news, but to me, it made sense. Alexandria is the firstborn. âOkay, it was Dadâs decision. Moreover, the meeting will be interesting,â Vincent said.
âTell me about it,â Alex scoffed.
âWhat am I missing here?â I said.
âThe council can be problematic, not to mention they have a lot of sticks up their asses,â Alex laughed.
âCharming,â my voice dripped with sarcasm.
âHow will they react to having me in charge? They already think Vincent should be in charge because he is the white dragon, but being a kingdom leader takes more than that. Being a direct bloodline descendent or not,â
âYouâre his brother. Shouldnât you be related to the Moon Goddess?â I asked.
âIt doesnât work like that for some reason, Vincent is my brother, as we share the same mother and father, but I wasnât born as a white dragon. Itâs complicated to explain,â Alex said.
âDonât worry about it. Iâm sure Dad told them you are next in line and told them to go to hell if they object, at least until Mom recovers.
âYes,â Alex nodded. âApart from being immune to draconite and managing to shifting only his face. What other parts of the event do you remember?â Alex asked me.
âDevin mentioned a man named Sozin,â I said.
âI heard that part before he cut the feed,â Alex said.
âSozin?â Vincent tilted his head.
âHis name showed up in some of Dadâs notes. But whoever this guy is, he knows how to cover his tracks,â Alex said.
âDevin mentions they are his warriors. He talked about Sozin as a person,â I said.
Vincent coughed a little and breathed deeply.
âVincent, you need to lie down,â I said, turning my attention to him.
âIâm fine,â Vincent said weakly.
âBrother, you need to rest,â Alex placed her hand on his shoulder. âPlease go to bed and sleep; I will let you know if I find anything,â
âVery well,â I helped Vincent to his room and bed. I helped him get into his pajamas. Vincent began to rest in his bed.
âWait, before you go, I need something,â Vincent said.
âAnd what is that?â I said as I opened his bedroom door.
âI want you,â Vincent cooed. âPlease, stay with me tonight,â
Wasting no time, I entered his bed. We cuddled closely together. I heard Dahlia purring as she felt the love of her mate. We both soon fell asleep in each otherâs embrace.
