I walked with him back to the table where Fiona was sitting. She watched two men in a heated debate about something I couldn't hear.
Alexander let go of me and pulled out my chair.
I sat down and he helped me in. Now, I wouldn't say I knew him, but he did seem rather civilized. Maybe that question last Friday was misleading compared to who he was as a person?
He sat down next to me, and a man appeared, sitting down beside Alexander.
"How do you know Mr. Greene?" Fiona asked.
I looked at her. "We work in the same building," I said and smiled.
She briefly looked at Alexander.
I watched him. He was talking to the man, who wore a suit, and with graying hair.
How old was Alexander even? I hadn't googled it.
I looked at Fiona. "This sounds like a really important cause."
She had gray eyes, the same color as her hair. "Thank you," she said. "It's always nice men also care about this."
"Agreed," I said.
She smoothed her hair with one hand. "If you'll have me excused," she said and stood. She moved easily between the tables. From my position it appeared as if she wore heels, but what did I know?
I followed her with my gaze until she stroke up a conversation with a man in a gray suit.
Okay, that was private.
I looked at Alexander who was listening intently to whatever the man said. Alexander's answers came fast and promptly.
Great.
I didn't know enough about anything to be able to walk around by myself. Going to the toilet might be the exception.
Okay, I had to interrupt Alexander's conversation. He wasn't sitting with his back to me, but polite as he was, he was half turned toward the man with whom he was talking.
I put my hand gently on his arm.
He looked at me with bright blue eyes.
"I'll go to the bathroom," I informed quietly.
He nodded.
I stood and made my way through the people and tables to the bathroom. There weren't anyone waiting in line, which was impressive.
I went inside the bathroom and took a deep breath.
Okay, two minute break.
I went into one of the stalls, locked the door and did, what I came for.
I washed my hands and looked in the mirror. Blue eyes, blond hair, amazing dress! I dried my hands and adjusted the necklace so the lock was hidden.
Three girls entered the bathroom. Probably my age, so 'girls' could be discussed.
One of them had dark hair, almost black, and very dark eyes. Something about her seemed familiar but I couldn't quite place where I'd seen her before.
All three of them looked at me.
I smiled and walked to the door.
"Wasn't that the girl Alexander Greene arrived with?" one of them asked.
The fell shut behind me before I had the chance to hear the answer.
I went back to Alexander, who was now standing,
My feet had felt more comfortable in shoes, but I guess I'd made my mind that this night would be for Alexander, not for me.
He looked at me when I reached him. "Do you want to stay?" he asked.
"Not if you're leaving," I said simply.
"Then we're leaving now." He stated.
I smiled. "Okay." Even though I didn't hate him, it would make everything so much easier if it didn't look as if he halfway regretted bringing me.
He said farewell to the man he was talking to, put an arm around me, and said goodbye to a number of people before we were outside again.
Jazz appeared out of thin air and led the way to the car.
