Dear Sweetheart Chapter 216 A New Pet Having picked up on the slight hesitation in her tone, Curtis narrowed his eyes and took over the phone in her hand.
âMr. Chambers, this is Curtis.â
He then put the phone on speaker so Rayna could listen in on the conversation as she continued eating.
Due to his deliberate use of laymanâs terms, she finally understood what the men were talking about at the end of their conversation.
After hanging up the call, Curtis returned the phone to her, saying, âYouâve never handled something like this before, so itâs normal not to understand whatâs going on right away. Iâll have Gabriel send the relevant documents to you, and you should get a better idea once youâve gone through them.â
âIsnât this considered an abuse of power, Mr. Faymon?â Gabriel interjected. âIf Ms. Garland wants any documents, she should be getting them from Hatchair Group.â
âThereâs nothing interesting about Hatchair Groupâs documents.â Curtis narrowed his eyes at his assistant. His tone was chilly as he remarked, âI advise you to think more and speak less.â
Learning of the manâs intents, Rayna thanked him with utmost sincerity. âThank you, Mr. Faymon.â
âYouâre welcome.â
After having lunch at Gabrielâs house and staying there for a little longer, Rayna took her leave. She still had things to take care of, and she had to go through all of the documents Gabriel gave her.
A moment after she left, Curtis was about to go as well.
Unfortunately, he was stopped by his assistant. Gabriel wore a smile that didnât quite reach his eyes as he queried, âMr. Faymon, youâve already wasted all afternoon. I donât suppose a couple more minutes will matter.â
âWhat is it?â
Gabriel pursed his lips and whistled. Soon, an ugly-looking pup came into view, causing Curtisâ expression to darken. He quickly pulled his assistant to the front, blocking himself from the puppy.
âMr. Faymon, itâs a puppy, and it doesnât have much fur. Do you mind taking care of it?â
Casting a glare at the man, Curtis enunciated, âCome again?â
âItâs not just an ordinary puppy, Mr. Faymon. Itâs an intelligent breed, so it can help guard your house.â
âI have a home security system.â
âIt might be useful when youâre out and about. It can help carry things.â
âI have a driver.â
Gabriel sighed in resignation after his suggestions were refuted by his boss. Suddenly, an idea occurred to him, and he exclaimed, âMr. Faymon, did you know Ms. Garland gave it a name? She named it Lucky.â
Noticing Curtisâ lack of response, Gabriel continued to persuade him, âMs. Garland wants to raise the puppy, but she doesnât have a courtyard, and the condominium sheâs staying at doesnât allow dogs. Donât you think itâs auspicious to have a cat named Happy and a dog named Lucky?â
Curtis inched backward as the puppy was about to lunge at him, his face devoid of expression the entire time.
âIâm not raising it.â
He wasnât interested in raising a pet.
âPlease reconsider, Mr. Faymon,â Gabriel coaxed. âMs. Garland really likes it. Sheâll be happy to invite you in for a coffee if you bring Lucky to visit her.â
At that, Curtis let out a snort of laughter. âI donât need a dogâs help for that.â
Gabriel stroked his chin. He begged to differ from his employerâs statement. âI noticed that Ms. Garland didnât seem too keen to see you. Donât you think so, Mr. Faymon?â
Once again, Curtis was left speechless.
Finally, after his assistantâs relentless persuasion, he left with a crate and a bag of kibble in his hands. It was a heart-warming scene, but a complicated expression was plastered on his face.
On the way back, Curtisâ gaze landed on the crate sitting on the passenger seat. The puppy looked back at him and wagged its tail excitedly, wanting to get out of its crate.
He shifted his gaze and massaged his temples helplessly. âI must be crazy.â
I hate animals, yet Iâm raising one now because Rayna likes it. Daily new chapters upload Only On Alaniniz(dot)com It seems my principles are changing because of her. This is nonsense!
The Ragdoll kitten was young, but because it had been adequately socialized, it wasnât afraid of humans at all. It sprinted around the living room and played with the toys Rayna brought from Gabrielâs home.
Jessica loved the kitten, too, and would spend all day playing with it, leaving Wyatt heartbroken.
When he came to pick her up the next day and saw she was playing with the kitten again, Wyatt asked piteously, âAm I not handsome enough? Why are you only paying attention to the kitten and not me?â
âBehave yourself in broad daylight, please!â Jessica chided, kicking him in the leg.
âIâm on my best behavior!â He wrapped an arm around her shoulder and lifted a brow. âSuch a tiny little thing canât please you, can it?â he asked teasingly.
âWyatt Lopez! You pervert!â
Looking at the bantering couple, Rayna felt the urge to beat Wyatt up.
Life is hard!
Her Mercedes-Benz was undergoing maintenance work. It just so happened that Hatchair Group and Faymon Group werenât far apart, so Wyatt took her to work. âWhat did you two name the kitten?â he queried.
âHappy.â
Upon hearing her response, he burst out laughing. âCurtis named his puppy âLucky,â and you named your kitten âHappy.â This is too funny!â
âNo way. Mr. Faymonâs raising a puppy?â A hint of surprise could be heard in Jessicaâs voice. âDoesnât he hate hairy animals?
One time, an employee accidentally brought their cat to the office, and he punished them by deducting half a yearâs worth of bonus.â
âWell, peopleâs preferences can change.â Wyatt glanced at Rayna through the rearview mirror and hinted, âPerhaps itâs because of a certain someone.â
âJust drive!â Rayna rolled her eyes at him in response.
âOkay, okay. Iâll obey my sister-in-lawâs words,â said the man with a playful smile plastered on his face. âIâll refer to you as my sister-in-law from now on. Donât forget about everything Iâve done for you guys when you two work out.â
Displeased, Jessica scoffed. âCurtis isnât deserving of our Nana.â
âHow so?â
âHe just isnât! Heâs such a jerk. Thereâs nothing he can do to redeem himself!â
âAll right, whatever you say.â Wyatt grabbed her hand, planting a kiss on it. âI was just kidding. Iâm always on your side, Jessie.â
Rayna was stunned and speechless by the love birdsâ public display of affection. At that moment, she couldnât help regretting getting into the same car as them.
Iâm never going out with both of them at the same time ever again!
As soon as she arrived at the office, Rayna instantly began settling the sky-high piles of documents on her desk. Not long after, her assistant informed her of an appointment with the person in charge of Universal Investments Corporation.
They had some time that morning, so Rayna brought the contract her assistant had prepared and headed to the café to meet with them.
All of Universal Investments Corporationâs equipment was imported from Dartan. The equipment was highly efficient, but they were also accompanied by an astronomical price tag. Hatchair Group wasnât planning on mass-producing their product, so Rayna thought of outsourcing the production to Universal Investments Corporation.
Previous collaborations between Universal Investments Corporation, Hatchair Group, and Faymon Group went without a hitch.
Coupled with Raynaâs humble attitude, the person in charge consulted their advisors and swiftly signed the contract.
Due to other engagements, they opted not to stay for lunch, so Rayna walked them out.
Just as she was about to hail a taxi to head back to the office, someone called out to her.
It was a middle-aged woman who was dressed elegantly. She had a smile on her face, and the graceful aura she exuded couldnât be emulated by an ordinary woman.
âAre you Rayna Garland?â
âYes, I am.â Upon taking a closer look at the woman, Rayna confirmed she was a stranger.
âIâm Theodoreâs mother. I need to speak with you, so why donât we chat in the café?â
Theodoreâs mother?
She didnât know why Emma was looking for her, but out of respect for someone older than her, she agreed to go with the latter and picked a table near the window.
After taking her seat, Emma cut straight to the chase. âMs. Garland, youâve been taking care of your siblings since your parents divorced while you were young, correct?â
Rayna hummed in acknowledgment.
âIâm impressed. You managed to get into Norham University despite your familial background.â There wasnât much admiration in Emmaâs gaze as she looked at the younger woman. âYou even managed to claw your way up to this position.â
