Dear Sweetheart Chapter 222 Lucky 2 âIsabelle, you better watch your tone!â roared Elijah with his hand lifted, but before he could slap Rayna, somebody grabbed him by the wrist.
Rayna was stunned when she saw that it was Curtis who had intervened. âMr. Faymon.â
âAre you okay?â inquired Curtis after nodding at Rayna.
âIâm fine. Even if you were not here, his hand wouldnât be able to reach my face,â promised Rayna as she stared coldly at Elijah.
âInstead of wasting your time on me, you should spend more time and money looking for another suitable donor before your sonâs time is up, Elijah.â
âI admit that I was wrong to have abandoned you, but weâre talking about your brother here. Heâs your blood!â shouted Elijah angrily.
âI only have one brother, and thatâs James,â retorted Rayna indifferently. âBesides, my mother divorced you more than twenty years ago, so weâre no longer related. If you have a problem with that, take it to court.â
âYou... You... You...â After listening to her cold daughter, Elijah got so upset that he lost the ability to form a complete sentence.
âThis neighborhood has terrible security; I canât believe they just let a stranger in. Iâm going to make a formal complaint tomorrow,â mocked Rayna before walking away from Elijah.
Curtis tightened his grip on Elijahâs wrist and warned in his deep voice, âDonât ever come back here again.â
Grimacing in pain, Elijah had no choice but to nod in agreement. Only then did Curtis let go of Elijah and enter the condominium with the puppy.
Rayna was waiting for the elevator when Curtis walked in with his dog.
âThat puppy looks like itâs barely one month old,â commented Rayna as she looked at the dog that seemed afraid of Curtis because it was keeping a distance from him. âWho walks a dog that young?â
âItâs too weak, so I took it out for training,â replied Curtis casually.
The puppy then rubbed against Rayna while barking and wagging its tail. Seeing how adorable the dog was, Rayna could not help but hug it.
âYou smell wonderful! Did you just get a bath?â muttered Rayna before patting the puppy and kissing it on the head. âHow cute!â
The dog is cute?
I wouldnât say I agree with her definition of the word. Curtis did not appreciate that the puppy was rubbing against Raynaâs chest, so he pinched the dog behind its neck with two fingers and pulled it away from the woman before indifferently lowering it back to the ground.
In order to prevent Rayna from picking up the dog again, Curtis changed the subject. âWas that your father?â
Rayna nodded in response. âHeâs a man who cares about no one but himself. He disliked us and even divorced my mother. After remarrying and giving birth to a child with leukemia, he returned to ask for my help because the kidâs bone marrow matched mine. Heâs been pestering me for the past few months, and now heâs even found out where I live.â
After hearing that, Curtisâ face hardened because he could tell from the hostility on Elijahâs face that the man was a hot-tempered person who would not shy from doing terrible things.
âIâll inform the guards to tighten the security in the neighborhood,â promised Curtis. âYou should keep something for self-defense in your bag, just in case.â
âGot it,â uttered Rayna while nodding, for she knew what the man was worried about.
âDonât you have anything you want to tell me?â
âWhat are you talking about?â
âThe morning news. I see youâve met Theodoreâs mother, who even gave you a present.â Curtis pretended to be casual about the matter while glancing at Rayna.
âAre you kidding? It was a total disaster!â Rayna could still feel the pain on her wrist when she recalled what had happened that morning. âHis mother is nothing if not crafty. She even got a reporter outside.â
âWhy did you meet with Theodore before?â inquired Curtis.
âAre you seriously asking me that question right now, Mr. Faymon?â scoffed Rayna. âI didnât say a word when you announced that youâd be marrying Ms. Sanders, so what makes you think I have to explain myself to you?â
Curtis was relaxed at first, but after getting scoffed at like that, he hardened his face once again. âJasmine and I are just faking the marriage. How many times do you need me to repeat myself?â
âDo you think the public cares if the marriage is real? I certainly donât!â stated Rayna coldly.
âAre you jealous?â
After freezing for a moment, Rayna turned to stare blankly at the elevator door, refusing to look at the man.
Curtis then put one hand on the rail behind Rayna and leaned in with a smile. âAbout that thing you were trying to tell me last time...â
Before Curtis could finish his sentence, the elevator door suddenly opened.
âHuh? Curt? Rayna?â Standing outside the elevator was Kristie in pajamas. She was surprised to see the two, especially since they were so close to each other.
Instinctively, Kristie reached out to press the close button. âMaybe you should carry on.â
âOut you go, Mr. Faymon.â Rayna immediately distanced herself from Curtis and pushed the man and his dog out of the elevator before pressing the close button repeatedly.
Curtis stared coldly at Kristie while questioning, âWhat are you doing out here this late?â
âIâm hungry; I wanted to get some snacks,â explained Kristie aggrievedly. âItâs your fault that I lost my boyfriend and nearly starved to death.â
âHe didnât contact you?â
Kristie shook her head while pouting. âItâs been a month since he last answered my call. I have no idea where he went.â
âHe has quite the temper.â Curtis was displeased to hear how Kristie was treated.
However, she did not side with him. âYou shouldnât have lied to Rayna. Itâs your fault she suffered from a high fever for several days. If I were him, Iâd be furious too.â
âSince you dislike so much, you might as well just leave. I see no point in keeping someone who prefers to side with others,â
uttered Curtis.
In response, Kristie stuck her tongue out at the man. âMake me! My plan is to wait until you die alone to inherit your fortune so I can buy an island and trap him on it. Then, weâll spend the rest of our lives together there.â
âYour plan is to take my money so you can take care of another man?â ridiculed Curtis.
âWhy do you care?â Only after rolling her eyes at Curtis did Kristie notice the little puppy beside the man. âI thought you hated cats and dogs. What changed your mind?â
Kristie could not help laughing when she remembered the scene in the elevator. âThereâs no doubt that you have good looks, but you have to admit you look pathetic when youâre trying to beg Raynaâs forgiveness.â
âAre you trying to end your acting career?â
âI am. Acting is so tiring,â answered Kristie with a snort. âFeel free to replace me. Itâll be your loss, not mine!â
âYou ungrateful little beast!â Curtis then pinched Kristieâs cheek forcefully.
Kristie was trying to hit Curtis when the elevator door opened and revealed James in gray sportswear on the other side.
Holding a thermal bag, James pursed his lips tightly when he saw Kristie and Curtis fooling around.
âSpeak of the devil,â uttered Curtis in his cold voice, breaking the silence.
As soon as Kristie turned around and saw James, she threw herself at the man and held him tightly. âWhere have you been the entire month? I thought youâd left me.â
Curtis would rather not stick around to hear the rest of the conversation, so he took another elevator.
âKeep your eyes on me. Talk to me.â Holding Jamesâ head, Kristie forced the man to focus on her before inquiring aggrievedly, âWhy didnât you answer my calls? Are you seeing someone else?â
âThere was some business I had to attend to at the school. Now let go.â James wanted to remove Kristieâs hands, but she quickly jumped up, wrapped her legs around his waist, and kissed him.
