Rayna knew about Zenisan Villa; it was a high-end residential area. Previously she won a unit there from a wager with Meredith and a few others, but she later transferred it to Jefferson.
Did Wyatt buy a unit there too? She wondered.
Not wanting to miss any lead, she asked the private investigator, âDo you have the unit number?â
âYes, Iâll email the details to you.â
âAll right. Thank you.â
After settling some matters, Rayna checked her email for Wyattâs address sent by the private investigator. She then notified her assistant, Ella, that she was knocking off early and left the office.
On the way to Zenisan Villa, she called Lopez Group to find out about Wyattâs whereabouts.
She learned that Wyatt was out of town for a business trip and would only be back three days later.
Upon reaching Zenisan Villa, Rayna effortlessly found the unit based on the information provided by the private investigator.
As she walked to the gate, she took a closer look at the mansion.
The garden was well maintained with blooming roses. She could see the housekeepers busy working in the mansion from the windows.
Given that Wyatt only comes to the mansion a few times a month, it was strange that he had housekeepers staying there to maintain the property. Mmm, someone is living here!
Rayna concluded that Jessica must be staying there. She composed herself and pressed the doorbell.
Soon after, a housekeeper came out from the mansion.
She walked briskly along the garden to the gate. She looked at Rayna warily. âMay I ask whatâs the matter?â
âOh, Wyatt asked me over. I heard sheâs not feeling well, and Iâm here to accompany her,â Rayna answered after a brief consideration.
Afraid that the housekeeper would not believe her, Rayna opened the photo album in her phone and showed a photo of her and Wyatt holidaying in Jetroina to the housekeeper.
Seeing Rayna and Wyatt in the photo, the housekeeper became less wary.
âPlease hold on. Let me make a call.â
âYou wonât be able to get him,â Rayna said with a smile. âDidnât he notify you all when he left? Heâs on a business trip now. I reckon he must be very busy with meetings.â
âMr. Lopez did mention heâll be busy during this period.â
Since Rayna was aware of Wyattâs schedule, the housekeeper was convinced the former came here under his order. At once, she let go of all suspicion and opened the gate.
As she followed the housekeeper into the mansion, Rayna asked casually, âThe weather is so nice. Doesnât she want to take a stroll outside?â
âMs. Marsh hardly comes down. She likes to coop herself in the room.â The housekeeper sighed. âShe stays in the room all day, and her condition is poor. Weâre worried about the baby in her tummy.â
Wyatt is indeed hiding Jessie here!
Rayna suppressed her anger and went along with the housekeeper. âDonât worry. Iâll talk to her when I see her later.â
âThank you so much.â
The housekeeper led Rayna to the third floor and knocked on the door. âMs. Marsh, your friend is here to visit you.â
A weak female voice could be heard a few seconds later. âCome in.â
The housekeeper pushed open the door.
From the housekeeperâs sigh earlier, Rayna guessed Jessica might not be doing well.
After entering the bedroom, Raynaâs heart twitched in pain when she saw Jessicaâs frail body and soulless eyes.
Jessica looked up. Her eyes widened in disbelief when she realized the person who stepped in was Rayna.
Rayna smiled at her.
She turned her head and said to the housekeeper, âYou may leave now. Iâll have a chat with her.â
The housekeeper nodded. âAll right. Would you like some biscuits and coffee? I can bring them up.â
âNot at the moment. Iâll call you if thereâs a need.â
Rayna immediately closed the door after the housekeeper left.
Jessica had already walked over. Looking mildly excited, she asked Rayna, âWhen did you come back? You look good. Howâre the babies?â
âWhy do you keep asking about me? Look at yourself.â Raynaâs eyes welled up as she looked at Jessica. âWhy did you become so skinny, my dear...â
She turned her gaze toward Jessicaâs stomach and realized there was no baby bump. âArenât you pregnant for a while now?
How come thereâs no baby bump?â
Jessicaâs smile faded upon hearing Raynaâs question.
After a long while, she pursed her pale lips and said softly, âThose two babies are gone...â
For the next hour, Jessica related the past happenings to Rayna.
Including how she lost the babies and why she had been staying here.
Raynaâs expression gradually stiffened as she listened to Jessica. At the end of the conversation, Rayna snarled through gritted teeth, her body trembling with anger, âHeâs inhumane! To think I trusted him, believing that heâll treat you well.â
âWell, I owe him. So itâs right that he takes revenge on me.â Jessica laughed weakly, trying to put on a calm front. âOnce, I took his phone while he was sleeping and called my uncle. They should be holidaying in Jetroina now. As long he doesnât touch my uncle and his family, he can take my life anytime.â
Rayna hollered, âYou donât owe him anything! Youâre not wrong to avenge your family. Heâs in the wrong. Serves him right for having such a father! A person like him doesnât have any f*cking balls and only knows how to bully women!â
Jessica caressed her stomach and said resignedly, âIâd like to keep this child, but I have no appetite. Iâll vomit whatever I eat...â
Every time Wyatt hugged her to sleep, she would be reminded of what she saw in the study, which made her want to vomit with disgust.
Her reason for keeping this child was not because of Wyatt.
It was because the pain of losing the twins before made her too heartbroken, and she did not want to experience it again.
Jessica looked at Raynaâs baby bump with a tinge of envy. âHave they been behaving well?â
âNot really. They kept kicking me some time ago, but itâs better now.â Just then, Rayna was reminded of the duck stew incident.
She felt her chest stiffen and could not continue.
Rayna changed the topic. âDo you have anything important to pack? Iâm going to take you away.â
âI canât leave.â Jessica shook her head. âWyatt has been experiencing mood swings recently, and I donât want to drag you into my matters. Further, Iâm doing quite well here...â
âDoing well? You got to be kidding me. Look at how skinny youâve become!â Rayna berated her. Holding back her tears, she said, âWyatt is treating you like a prisoner. He doesnât care about you after leaving you here.â
Just as Jessica was about to speak, Rayna intercepted her, âDonât worry for he dare not do anything to me. Iâll take you to a place where he canât find you so you can focus on your pregnancy.â
âNana, letâs forget about it...â Jessica was hesitant about leaving with her.
She did not want to drag Rayna into this mess and end up losing her only friend.
However, Rayna gave no room for negotiation and pulled Jessica out of the room.
When they reached the living room on the first floor, they were stopped by the housekeeper.
âMs. Marsh, where are you going?â
âOh, itâs all right. Iâm just taking her for a short stroll,â Rayna calmly replied. âWeâll be back in the evening.â
The housekeeper glanced at Rayna and recalled Wyattâs order. She became wary. âLet me arrange for someone to accompany you then. If Ms. Marsh wishes to do shopping at the mall, thereâll be someone to help carry the bags.â
Rayna declined, âDonât worry. I drove here, so thereâs no need. Anyway, it seems like you donât trust me?â
âThatâs not what I meant...â
âWell then, why are you getting in the way? I just want to take her for a stroll. Are you afraid that Iâll abduct her?â Rayna chuckled. She dialed a number on her phone and passed it to the housekeeper. âAll right then, why donât you inform your boss about this.â
As the housekeeper took over the phone, she kept apologizing.
The phone kept ringing but nobody answered the call.
