âItâs the female vice CEO of Glory. Sheâs quite well-acquainted with Ms. Winton.â The gynecologist said with a frown, âI notice the position of the fetuses isnât optimum, so there may be some risks.â
âHow many fetuses are there?â
âItâs a triplet,â the gynecologist reported the test results to the doctor.
After hearing that, the doctor thought for a few moments before uttering, âIf the womanâs uterus is too small and the fetuses donât have room to move around, fetal malposition may indeed happen. Still, as long as a nuchal cord doesnât happen, there shouldnât be any problem.â
âBut...â The gynecologistâs brows remained tightly knitted as she hesitated to speak.
When she examined Raynaâs condition earlier, she realized the babiesâ movements were infrequent. Not to mention, Rayna was carrying a triplet, so she reckoned something must be off. Nevertheless, that condition might also be due to Rayna overtiring herself lately.
Ignorant to the gynecologistâs dithering, the doctor continued, âWhen she comes for her next pregnancy checkup, the doctor will tell her how to adjust the position of her fetuses. This shouldnât be a significant issue, so Iâll take my leave.â
The gynecologist nodded. âSee you.â
She decided not to dwell further on that matter. Thatâs right. Fetal malposition is not a major problem. Besides, that lady is no longer related to Mr. Faymon. It is quite troublesome if I invite these unnecessary problems onto myself for being a busybody.
With Kristie and Carl monitoring her, Rayna couldnât leave even if she wanted to, so she had no choice but to remain there.
She felt much better after the slumber.
After having their breakfast, Rayna and Kristie went to the ward. Rayna wanted to go to the hospital alone, but Kristie wished to tag along.
Rayna asked the latter to stay in the condominium, but right after Rayna went to the garage and sat in the driverâs seat, she heard the car door being opened and closed as another person got into the car.
Rayna turned to look behind her and noticed Kristie sitting in the backseat.
She was rendered speechless.
âRayna, Iâm coming because Iâm worried about you.â Kristie stuck out her tongue and urged, âHurry up and start the car.
Otherwise, that brat will be here soon.â
Rayna didnât think it was appropriate to chase Kristie out of the vehicle, so she had no choice but to start the car. âRemember to put on a cap and a mask when you get out of the car later.â
Kristie muttered, âI got it! Itâs been so long since I last participated in a film. My fans probably think Iâve been blacklisted. I donât think anyone will recognize me even if I donât wear a cap.â
âIf you donât listen to me, Iâm not letting you tag along.â
Kriste immediately shut her mouth.
Upon arriving at the hospital ward, Rayna asked for directions and soon found the room Jessica had told her about.
The nurse had just finished making their usual rounds. When she saw Rayna, she asked, âAre you the patientâs kin?â
âYes.â Rayna nodded. âIs he all right?â
âHis condition is stable, but heâll need to stay in the hospital for some time, so itâll be best to find him a caretaker as soon as possible.â
âOkay. Thank you.â
After sending the nurse away, Rayna pushed open the door to the ward.
Inside the regular ward were four to five beds, but most were not occupied.
After stepping into the room, Rayna saw the middle-aged man on the bed near the window at first glance.
The middle-aged manâs body was wrapped in multiple layers of bandages. Even his face, the only part of him which was visible, was heavily bruised.
He seemed to have sustained some severe injuries.
Kristie, trailing behind Rayna, asked in an undertone, âIs this Jessicaâs relative? Heâs so badly wounded.â
Rayna grunted in response.
However, she had never met Jessicaâs relative, so she didnât know who that man was.
The middle-aged man on the bed slowly opened his eyes when he heard footsteps. He saw Rayna and Kristie from the corner of his eyes. âWho are you?â
âMr. Marsh, Iâm Jessicaâs friend.â Rayna moved closer. âDo you want me to help you summon the nurse?â
The middle-aged man moved his lips.
Rayna couldnât quite make out what he was saying. She bent down and leaned closer before she heard him ask, âWhere is Jessica?â
The sight of him speaking with that much difficulty tugged at Raynaâs heartstrings. She replied gently, âSheâs been taking care of you all this while but had worn herself out, so sheâs resting at home now.â
Hearing that, the middle-aged man relaxed his furrowed brows.
âIâm glad sheâs fine. Thatâs great.â His voice was hoarse. âI told her not to provoke those people and not to anger the Lopez family, but she wonât heed my advice. Alas, Iâm glad sheâs all right.â
âAre you Jessicaâs uncle, Oliver?â Rayna figured out that manâs identity. âDidnât she arrange for you to go on a holiday abroad?â
Oliver explained, âMy wife and I went on vacation for two days, but we returned because we were worried about her.
Unexpectedly, a group of people barged into our house as soon as we reached home.â
Oliver glanced at the empty bed beside him before asking Rayna anxiously, âWhereâs my wife?â
Rayna hurriedly comforted him, âDonât worry. Sheâs staying in a different ward. Can you tell me who are the people who barged into your home?â
âThey were sent there by the Lopez family.â Oliver couldnât help but shudder as he was reminded of the nightâs incident. âThey kicked open the door and questioned me about Jessicaâs whereabouts. Then, they hit my wife and me and even took away my phone. I managed to snatch my phone back and told them to leave. Otherwise, Iâll call the police. However, they asked me to call the police and report to the authority that Jessica had killed someone. In that way, the police can arrest Jessica too.â
âWhich Lopez family are you referring to? Wyatt Lopez?â
Oliver nodded with difficulty and uttered in a husky voice, âWhen they left, someone made a phone call and addressed the other person on the phone as Mr. Lopez. He asked the latter if they should stay at our place to keep watch since they couldnât locate Jessica.â
Rayna recalled how Wyatt had barged into his office and smacked her the other day.
Judging by his violent nature, he mightâve been the one to target Jessicaâs uncle and his family when he failed to locate Jessica.
But...
Taking in Oliverâs appearance, Rayna gritted her teeth hatefully. âIs he still a man? How can he be so ruthless!â
Kristie couldnât help but chime in, âWyatt may be bad-tempered, but I donât think he will do something like this. Perhaps there is a misunderstanding?â
Rayna sneered. âMisunderstanding? Do you know he slapped me when he lost it as I didnât comply with his demand when he went to my office the other day to ask about Jessieâs whereabouts?â
âSeriously?â Kristie was dumbfounded.
Mustering all his strength, Oliver grasped Raynaâs hand. âJessica had suffered enough. Please take good care of her.â
Rayna nodded. âI will. Sheâs my best friend.â
At that moment, the door to the ward was pushed open. A nurse dashed into the room while wearing a solemn expression.
Before Rayna could ask the nurse what was going on, the latter approached Oliver, who was lying on the bed and said, âMr.
Oliver Marsh, your wife, Danielle Yarbrough, was involved in a car crash on the way to the hospital. We failed to save her because she lost too much blood.â
Oliver widened his eyes as he struggled to breathe. âWhat? My wife, my wife...â
âSheâs joking. Mrs. Marsh is in the ward next door. Donât worry, Mr. Marsh,â Rayna hurriedly said.
She forcefully dragged the nurse out of the ward with a dark look on her face.
The nurse knitted her brows and said, âHey! Are you the patientâs family? His wife is not in the ward next door. She was caught up in a car accident when she was rushed to the hospital. I personally sent her into the operating roomââ
âShut up!â Rayna chided while shoving the nurse out of the room and shutting the door behind her.
Then, she continued to scold her, âDo you know whatâs your profession? How can you announce such a piece of sad news in front of the patient? How are you sure the person was his wife?â
âShe doesnât have any family members here. Do you suppose the hospital will foot her bill if I donât tell him?â The nurse was even more temperamental than Rayna. âAre you his kin? You should go and claim her body!â
Rayna sputtered with rage. âYouââ
The door to the ward was pushed open in a haste and Kristie scrambled out. âRayna, t-that mister...â
