"What do you mean by me getting killed?"
"She doesn't know about the infamous Mr. Winters," I roll my eyes at Charlotte's remark.
"There's things about that man you don't know. The fact you have his blanket is surprising," Violet starts the car and drives.
"I still don't know how you knew it was his blanket?"
"That's something you'll have to find out in the future. In the meantime, enjoy what you have before the ugly truth spills. Get ready for the car ride because the house is two hours away."
"Ugh. Why did you live so far?" I hear Violet laugh.
"Because it was the only house for sale that was gorgeous and in a neighborhood. Oh, before I forget," I see Violet reach into the glove box and pull out a card.
"Kayla and Tia made this for you. You haven't even met Tia. She may be five, but Tia loves to talk about you. She hasn't met you yet, but she loves her aunt and Aunt Charlotte," I chuckle.
"Well, I can't wait to meet her," I see Violet reach into the glove box, pull out a card, and hand it to Charlotte.
"Tia made this one special for you."
"Awe, I love it! It's my favorite color, too, and the writing is beautiful," I hear Violet laugh.
"She had trouble writing it, so I had to help her," I hear Charlotte chuckle.
"We love it. I can't wait to see those two!" I hear Violet chuckle.
I snuggle up with the blanket as Violet drives. My eyes start to close as I drift off into sleep.
A fire lights up my lungs as I try to gasp for air. I look around, seeing someone over me.
"Evangeline! Stay with me!"
Pain shoots throughout my body as I use what breath I have to scream. I wake up in a panic.
"You okay?" I rub my eyes, thinking about the horrible pain.
"Yeah. I'm okay. I had a bad dream."
"Well, it's a good thing you're awake because we're almost home," I look out the window and see the familiar neighborhood of Violet's house.
Violet drives down the street. She turns into the driveway of the fanciest house in the neighborhood.
"We're here!"
"It's a lot bigger than I remembered," Violet chuckles.
"That's because you've only been in it once," I get out of the car, and Violet pops the trunk.
I see Charlotte get out of the car. I grab her bag and hand it to her. I grab my bag and walk towards the door. Violet shuts and locks the trunk and car. I see the front door open.
"Hey, you two!" I fake smile.
"Dave! How are you doing?" I see Dave smile big at me.
"I'm better now that both of you guys are here. The girls haven't stopped talking about you two since they heard you were coming. Happy Birthday early, Evangeline," I fake smile.
"Thanks, Dave," I look inside, waiting for him to move.
"Come on in! It must be freezing out there," I wrap the blanket tighter as I walk past Dave and into the house.
"I'll show you to your room. Honey, why don't you take their bags?"
"Oh! Of course," I watch Dave grab my bag, and he grabs Charlotte's bag.
Charlotte and I follow Violet up the stairs and to a bedroom.
"I hope you guys don't mind sharing a bedroom. Since Tia was born, we haven't had many rooms, so we had to turn the other guest bedroom into her room."
"Oh, it's okay. Charlotte hogs the bed, so I'm used to it," Charlotte nudges me.
"I'm kidding," Violet and I chuckle.
"Well, make yourself at home. Try to rest before Kayla and Tia wake up in an hour. Tia usually wakes up first, so be prepared for that," I chuckle.
"Well, try to sleep, and I can't wait to see them," Violet hugs me and Charlotte.
"If you need me, mine and Dave's room are at the end of the hall," I watch as Violet walks to her room. Dave sets the suitcases down.
"Have a good nap," I see him smile and walk to his and Violet's room.
I shut the door and slid my suitcase next to the bed. Charlotte and I lay on the bed.
"Well, we're here. We did it! We made it to Seattle and at the house."
"Yeah. We can finally relax. Until someone wakes us up," I chuckle and see Charlotte looking at me.
"You're still wearing that blanket? It smells like Mr. Winters," I chuckle.
"That's why I stole it. I took a picture with Mr. Winters and called him hot. How embarrassing is that?" I hear Charlotte laughing.
"I would give you a blanket, too, if you called me hot," I laugh.
"So, what's going on with Evan?"
"I honestly don't know. Evan danced with me at the party and kissed me. I'll tell you, it was passionate, but it didn't feel the same as when I kissed Mr. Winters," I hear Charlotte fake choke, and I roll my eyes.
"You kissed Mr. Winters and Evan? Damn, you move quickly."
"Well, kissing Evan wasn't my fault. He kissed me, and Mr. Winters got real mad. He broke a glass cup on his hand and cut his hand. It was bleeding badly. I had to take him to the restroom and clean him. I stitched him up and put a dinosaur bandaid on him," I hear Charlotte laugh.
"A dinosaur bandaid? You know we have regular bandaids in the first aid kit," I chuckle.
"I know. I thought the dinosaur bandaid fit Mr. Winters. I told him off, saying he's his own person, and so am I. He doesn't own me," I hear Charlotte chuckle.
"Tell that to him. I'm glad you didn't fuck him again," I nudge Charlotte.
"I'm kidding!" We both laugh. I hear footsteps running down the hall.
"I think they're awake. Let's pretend we're asleep so we can attack them," I close my eyes, and I hear Charlotte fake snore.
I hear the door open, and I peep my eyes open. I see Kayla sneaking towards us and Tia shyly standing at the door. I see Kayla sneak closer to me. I grab her and pull her on the bed. I hear her scream as Charlotte and I tick Kayla mercyly. I look over at Tia.
"You want to come over? Don't be scared. I'm not going to hurt you. I'm going to tickle you!" I run after her, and she starts running while laughing and screaming for Violet.
"Mom!" I hear her tiny laugh while I run slowly after her. I pretend to trip, and I watch her run into the bedroom.
"No! Don't go into there. I can't get you in there!" I hear Tia screaming at Violet.
"Mommy! A lady is chasing me, and she wants to tick me!" I hear Violet chuckle.
"Well, let's go meet her," I sit on the floor. I see Violet coming out of the room, holding Tia.
"Tia, this is your Aunt Evangeline," I smile at her.
"Hi, little one. I'm Evangeline, but you can call me Eve or Eva," Tia looks at me up and down. I see her smile really big.
"EE!" Tia hops out of Violet's arms and into mine. She gives me a big hug.
"Awee, I love you, too," I give her a big bear hug. I hear footsteps running towards me.
"Mom! She's coming after me!" I see Kayla jump into Violet's arms, and Charlotte runs up to her.
"You're safe now, but I'll get you next time!" I see Kayla stick her tongue out at Charlotte, and Charlotte gasps. Violet chuckles.
"You two have only been here thirty minutes, and you've already made enemies. While we're all awake, how about some breakfast?" I hear the two girls squeal in excitement.
"Yes! Can we have waffles?" I look at Kayla and then at Violet.
"Yeah. Can we have waffles? Maybe with strawberries and bananas?" Violet chuckles.
"I'll see what I have in the fridge. Let's get you girls a snack before breakfast," Violet starts walking. We all follow her to the kitchen.
Violet sets Kayla in a highchair, and I sit Tia in a highchair. Violet grabs three bowls and pours cereal into them. She hands them to Kayla, Tia, and Charlotte.
"How did you know I wanted cereal, too?" I hear Violet chuckle.
"You're always hungry. You want a bowl of cereal, too, Eve? Or did you get full from Mr. Winters?" I roll my eyes.
"Who's Mr. Winters?" I hear Kayla, curious.
"No one, sweetie. Eat your cereal."
"Nah. I'm good. I'm going to go for a job to clear my mind."
"Maybe take a shower afterward? If you do, fresh towels are in the cabinet," I roll my eyes.
"Well, duh. I'm not gross," I hear Violet chuckle.
I walk upstairs to my room and close the door. I unzip my suitcase and grab a workout top with leggings. I change my clothes and put my watch on. I throw the ones I wore into the hamper. I walk out of the room and see Dave coming out of his room. Shit.
"Hey, Eve," I see him look me up and down.
"Going for a jog?" I fake smile.
"Yeah. I'm just going down the block," I see Dave smile.
"Well, have fun!" I walk away, and I can feel him staring at me.
I go downstairs and out the door. I stretch my legs and arms before I start jogging down the street. All I can think about is Mr. Winters and Evan. It's family time, Evangeline. Stop thinking about anything other than those girls.
I snap out of the zone and continue to jog down the block. I watch families wake up. Parents wave to me as they take their kids to school and to work. I stop to rest and check the time. I've been jogging for thirty minutes. I start jogging back to Violet's house.
The smell of fresh waffles and eggs hits me in the face as I walk in the door. I walk to the kitchen and see Kayla and Tia eating waffles with berries.
"Mmm, it smells good," Violet chuckles.
"It smells like this every morning. Now, take a shower. I can smell you from here," I chuckle.
I go up the stairs and grab a towel from the cabinet. I go to the restroom next to my room and lock the door. I set the towel on a hook and warm the shower as I strip. I step in the shower.
Hot water hits my back, and I submerge in it. I make sure my hair is wet before I lather it with vanilla soap. I rinse the soap off and grab a pink loofah.
I wet the loofah and put a good amount of vanilla body soap on it before scrubbing my body from head to toe. I rinse the soap off the loofah and my body. I turn the water off and wrap the towel around my dripping body.
I step out of the restroom, running straight into Dave.
I step out of the restroom, running straight into Dave. Holy shit. I see Dave look me up and down.
"Hey, Eve. Just out of the shower, huh? I remember when your sister used to have a body like that before she had two kids," I back up towards my room.
"What do you mean used to? She still does have a body. The only thing she has now is tiger marks from giving birth," I see Dave get closer to me.
"Woah, step back, dude, and give me some fucking space," I see Dave roll his eyes.
"What? Just because I'm married doesn't mean I can't look, and besides, it's not like I haven't seen it before."
"What do you mean haven't seen it before?" Dave says nothing and walks downstairs. I roll my eyes. What a creep.
I walk into my room and shut and lock the door. I grab lingerie, sweater, and jeans from my suitcase. I dress and walk to the kitchen.
"Finally, you're down here. It took you long enough. Your waffles are getting cold," I roll my eyes and look around for Dave.
"Dave isn't here?"
"Oh, no. Dave left for work ten minutes ago," Thankfully.
"I'm glad he's gone," I look at the kids and see them finishing eating.
