-Evangeline-

The three men lean back and talk to one another.
"Are you crazy?! That low of an offer they'll never accept!" Stephanie whispers in my ear.
"Trust me," I whisper back.
I look at all of the men as they stop whispering to each other and sit straight against the table. All with satisfied smirks at me.
"It seems to me like you don't have the full consciousness of the situation because of your condition, so let's cut this deal to sixty-fifty. What do you say?" Mr. Linn says with a confident smirk.
"Condition?!" I say, enraged and standing up with my blood boiling, "You think just because I'm pregnant that I can't be stable, or make a proper offer?! Or is it the fact that I'm a woman making a business offer with you that makes you scared because a woman is taking power and authority?" They all don't make a sound as they stare at me with wide eyes.
"I suggest you take my offer, Mr. Chen's. Your business could use the support from the profitability I offer," I cool my body language and calm my voice, "If you don't take my offer, then you don't have to look forward to a future with the Winters Industry anymore. You will be cut off from Winters's Industry and banned from sight. No email or message will reply to you from our Industry. It would be like you never had business with our company. Just because I'm feeling nice, I will offer you two, no FIVE percent more to add to your other five percent, making it 10 percent total to your total share. So, do.. we... have... a... deal?" I say with a death glare while Stephanie puts her face in her hands.
Mr. Yang stands up, "I say we have a deal," Mr. Yang holds his hand out, and I shake it with a bright smile. Stephanie lifts her face from her hands with a shocked expression, and a small chuckle comes from Hunter.
"Good. You've made a good decision, Mr. Yang, you certainly won't regret it," Mr. Yang smiles while his brother holds a mad look.
"I'm sure I won't, Mrs. Winters," I chuckle.
"Please, call me Evangeline. If we're all settled with our meeting, I'll have my people contact you about further involvement. Until then, I'd be gladly to walk you out of the building," I give Mr. Yang a friendly smile.
"That would be nice," He smiles back.
I grab my briefcase and lead the way out of the conference room, holding the door open for the Chens and their assistant. I use the briefcase to cover my behind to not let Hunter stare at my ass again as I walk beside Mr. Yang, letting everyone else into the elevator first before me and Mr. Yang get in.
"I have to apologize for any accusations I have made to you back in the conference room. I have to admit, seeing Mr. Winters putting someone else in his place is a little raffling, but I think he made an adequate fit by putting you in his place," A warm smile appears on my face.
Adequate.
I don't know why, but hearing that I was an adequate fit from Winty by Mr. Yang made a warm feeling crawl inside my heart.
"Thank you, Mr. Yang, but I should be the one to apologize. It wasn't very professional of me to raise my voice, and you know what they say, Mr. Winters is always right," A deep chuckle comes from Mr. Yang.
"Now, that I'd have to agree on. You said you were pregnant, If you don't mind me asking, how far along are you?" I smile.
"Oh, not at all! I'm about to turn seven months pregnant in a couple of days, and I'm loving every second of it. If you don't mind me asking, do you have any kids?" Mr. Yang chuckles.
"Yes, I do. I have a twenty-four-year-old son and a ten-year-old daughter. Boy, do they drive me crazy, but I don't regret any moment with them," I chuckle.
"Your wife must be busy with all the mess they're causing," Mr. Yang's smile fades.
"Our relationship isn't doing so well. She's asking for a divorce," The sudden tension in the room is so breakable, you can cut it with a butter knife.
"Oh, I'm so sorry! I didn't mean to bring up-"
"It's okay. When we first got married, we used to be so close. It wasn't until our daughter was born that business started to pick up and we... we got distant. I don't know what to do," His voice lowers as he speaks, sounding heartbreaking as a tear strolls down his eye.
I swallow the lump in my throat and pull him in for a hug as stray tears fall from my eyes, too.
Damn, these pregnancy hormones.
"I'm sorry you have to go through this. Hell, I can't imagine how I would feel if me and Mr. Winters broke up. Do you love her?" I sniffle out while backing up and rubbing smeared makeup on the jacket's sleeve.
"Of course," He says while pulling out a tissue from his jacket pocket and dabbing his eyes.
"Then fight for her. Odds are you're both falling apart because you're busy all the time, but you two still love each other. Take her on dates. Take her on walks in the park. To a photo shoot. To her to the theater or a play. Bring her flowers. Write her love cards. Show her the man she fell in love with when you two first met. Do things normal couples would do, or things you guys did when you first started dating. Make her fall in love with you again," A sudden ping hits my heart as I say the words normal couple.
Normal couple.
Normal couples go on dates, walk in the park, get flowers, get love cards, and more, but Mr. Winters didn't do that.
We don't do that.
In the time we've been together, we've never did normal couple things. Then again, we weren't a normal couple.
"You're right," He says with a sigh, "If I'm to win her heart back, I have to fight," He gives me a warm smile, "Mr. Winters is a lucky man getting a woman like you," I smile while twisting the ring on my finger, feeling the curve of the jewel on my fingertip as I twist it side to side.
"Thank you," I don't know why, but the thank you felt forced like I had to dig it out of my throat from swallowing.
The elevator doors open, and Mr. Yang walks out while I follow.
"Thank you for the meeting and the insightful conversation. I look forward to seeing you with Mr. Winters in the future," Mr. Yang holds out his hand, and I shake it while Mr. Linn gets out of the elevator with his assistant, still with a sore look.
I smile, "Of course, no problem. Just call my number, and I'll set up an appointment to cry in the elevator with you anytime," I say with a smile as I hand Mr. Yang my card. Mr. Yang's laughter fills the floor.
"Oh my, what a good laugh that was. I certainly will call you if I ever need to spill again. I don't know what it is about you, Mrs. Evangeline, but I'm glad Mr. Winters finally found someone who has a heart," I let out a small laugh.
"I know. It's like he doesn't have one since he's always so strict all the time," I say sarcastically. Mr. Yang laughs again, and I smile.
"Oh, before I forget, I have to ask, if you don't mind, why are you and your brother's last name different, but called the Chen brothers?" Mr. Yang smiles.
"My and my brother had different fathers, but the same mother, so we go by our father's last name as traditional, but named our bond after our mother. She has passed, but she reminds me a lot like you, bold, confident, and blunt, but she did a good job at starting our company," I look at him, shocked.
Their mother started their company. A woman?
"I have to get going now, you know how business is. I look forward to seeing you in the future, Mrs. Winters," Mr. Yang gives me a warm smile before he, his brother, and his assistant walk out the front doors.
As soon as those doors close, my heart starts beating fast, and the pressure of leading an important conference comes in all at once.
"Stephanie, lead me to the car. I can't move my legs," Stephanie chuckles as she wraps her arm around mine and leads me out the doors, and to the limousine.
I step inside the limousine as Donny holds the door open, and Stephanie and Hunter get inside after me.
"Oh! I didn't know we were taking the same limo," I say as Donny closes the door after Hunter sits. I scoot to the opposite side of the limo, not wanting to sit next to Stephanie, or Hunter.
"Of course, we're taking the same limo. We're going to celebrate! I have to say, at first, I had my doubts about thinking you couldn't do it, and then you pushed the high stakes, and I thought it was going to be a goner, but you did it!" I chuckle.
"Well, I couldn't have done it without my trusty briefcase Mr. Winters left me," I lie, not wanting to reveal the idea came up last minute.
I'm going to get Winty back for leaving me an empty briefcase.
"Well, I'm glad, Mr. Winters had it all under control even when he isn't available," I roll my eyes as Mr. Winters gets all the credit.
"Yep, he sure did," I lie.
I stare out the window as the car goes silent while Stephanie sips a glass of champagne, and Hunter stares out the window, resting his finger against his cheek in deep thought.
I don't know if it's the adrenaline finally rushing inside my blood from the meeting, or if it's a hot flash, but suddenly this car is hot as hell. I wipe a ray of sweat off my forehead and take Mr. Winters's jacket off.
Stephanie and Hunter's eyes widen as they stare at my shirt.
"What? Do I have a sweat stain?" I look down at my shirt and see my boobs, trying not to burst in my bra, forgetting they're swollen. I quickly pick up the jacket and cover my breasts.
I really shouldn't have worn a red bra because this red doesn't help with not showing through my white shirt.
"I'm sorry! It's... pregnancy things," I look away as embarrassment flushes my cheeks.
Hunter clears his throat and presses his fist against his mouth as his eyes darken while still staring at me. I swore I saw a bulge, too before he crossed his legs. Stephanie takes a swing of the last of her champagne in her glass while staring at me with lustful eyes.
I feel like I'm in a car with two lions, and I'm the prey.
"Oh, don't be embarrassed, darling. I wouldn't mind a show after a victory win," Stephanie says with a seducing voice. I clear my throat.
"Donny! Is the A/C on?" I yell to Donny.
"No, ma'am, but I can turn it on," Donny yells.
A chill of goosebumps trails down my arms as I feel the blast of the A/C. I quickly put my jacket back on, seeing Hunter bite his lip and Stephanie run her hand down her thigh as they watch me put on Mr. Winters's jacket.
"It's... Mr. Winters's jacket," I say, trying to change the mood.
"I know. You look good with my name," Hunter mumbles, turning his head away.
"What?" I say as the air in my chest starts to deflate. He says nothing in response.
Muteness must run in the family.
"Donny? Can we stop somewhere before you take me home?!" I yell at Donny.
If I don't find air without them soon, I think I'm going to faint.
