I smiled at the light pink sky, the setting sun in my view, as my feet dangled from the edge.
The caress of the wind against my skin caused a shiver to run down my spine.
It's a chilly Sunday afternoon, and I'm sitting in the treehouse to get some time to myself.
Yesterday, was a lot of fun and I'm glad I went, but now I'm unsure what this meant.
I knew what I wanted, which was Myles in my life again, but I don't know how to go about it.
Lost in thought, I almost didn't hear someone else coming up the steps.
A creak of the steps made me turn my head down, coming face to face with Myles.
My heart clenched at the sight of him.
He was wearing a black hoodie and grey sweatpants, but what caught my attention the most was his face.
His jaw was clenched in anger along with his fist, his eyes were hard and slightly red, so I can tell he was crying earlier, and his lips were pulled into a frown.
Moving aside, I made room for him to step in.
"Sorry, I didn't know anyone was going to be here," His voice was low and raspy, his eyes not making contact with mine as he took a seat beside me.
I decided not to say anything, giving him the space he needed.
An air of comfortability surrounded us as we watched the sunset together.
After a couple of moments he was more relaxed, his shoulders no longer tense, and his fist unclenched, giving me a clear view of his bruised knuckles on his right hand.
"Did you get in a fight?" I asked taking his injured hand and placing it into my lap to get a better view.
I tried not to get distracted by his stare that seemed to be burning holes on the side of my face.
Seeing that it was just light bruising and only needed an ice pack, I place his hand back on his lap.
"I punched my father,"
I felt myself still at his words my gaze meeting his hard stare.
Snapping out of it, I simply nodded my head in response.
I didn't push for any more information knowing that his father was a sore subject for him.
"Mhm, you should probably put some ice on your hands, to reduce the swelling," I said changing the subject.
I started getting ready to move, but he placed his hand on my own making me freeze in my spot.
"You're not going to ask why?" He asked, brows furrowed.
"Nope, when your ready you'll tell me. Besides, I'm sure he deserved it," I said giving him a small smile while fighting the urge to push the black strand that fell in front of his face.
"Yeah, he did," He stated, a humorless laugh falling from his lips.
Again silence fell upon us as we gazed at the sky.
I tried to ignore his hand on mine, but I couldn't help the butterflies that flooded my stomach.
"I was coming back home from training when I found my father sitting on the front steps," Myles stated, breaking the silence.
"What the hell are you doing here," Myles spat out in anger, glaring at the man before him.
"Am I not allowed to visit my son," The man replied, straightening out his crisp black Armani suit.
Liam FIelds
The best lawyer in all of California and Myles's father.
"I stopped being your son when you abandoned your family for your own selfish desires," Myles almost yelled, clenching his gym bag trying to keep his anger contained.
"I said it was a mistake, why can't you just let it go already. I'm trying to do better now, I wanna be there for you and Kyle," Liam said stepping closer to Myles.
"Yeah, right," Myles said releasing a scoff.
"How about you leave your empty promises for someone who cares," Myles said glaring at his father.
Myles's face scrunched up in disgust, with his father standing closer he could smell the alcohol on his breath.
Looking down at Myles's hand, Liam rolled his eyes once he spotted the boxing logo on his gym bag.
"You still chasing after that dream of becoming a boxer, you're wasting your life away. You should become a lawyer like me that's more sensible than beating up a couple of guys for money. Clearly, I'm needed here if your stupid mother is allowing you to pursue such foolish fantasies," Liam stated looking repulsed.
Without any hesitation, Myles's fist landed upon Liam's jaw.
Sounds of groaning came from Liam's lips as he laid on the floor clenching the side of his face.
His eyes slightly wide in shock that Myles had hit him.
"You can say what you want about me, but don't ever disrespect my mother again, or else I'll break every bone in your body, father or not. I promise that, and believe me when I say I go through with my promises unlike you," Myles snarled out as his father glared up at him.
"Now, get out of my sight,"
Not needing to be told twice, Liam picked himself off the floor.
"You can't say I didn't try," Liam said before driving away in his Porsche.
Bastard
"Luckily, no one was home but I couldn't stay there. I didn't want my mom and Kyle to come back and have to explain to them what happened. So, I came here as it's the place I could think of to get some time to myself." He finished, releasing a deep sigh.
It's official Myles's dad is terrible.
"Don't listen to him, trust me when I say, you, Kyle, and your mother are better off without him in your life. Your mother did an amazing job at raising such an incredible and strong human being with a big heart. I feel bad for your father as he is missing out on knowing just how great his son is, but that's his loss, not yours," I said intertwining my fingers with his.
"Thanks," He said a small smile playing on his lips as he tightened his grip on my hands.
All the tension leaving his body, a calmness coming over him after he let out his pent-up anger.
I rested my head on his shoulder, neither of us feeling the need to say any more on the topic.
Just grateful to have the other person there.
"I'm sorry," I said, lifting up my head,
"For what?" He asked confused, turning his head in my direction.
"For not being there for you, and for being a bad friend these past four years," I said looking down at our interlocked hands.
"You're sorry," Myles said letting out a scoff.
"You have nothing to be sorry about, I should be the one apologizing. I was the one who broke my promise," He said lifting up my head, so my eyes can meet his.
His sterling grey, darker than usual seemed as if they were penetrating through my soul.
"But, that doesn't matter, I shouldn't have let go so easily," I let out, angry at myself for letting something so beautiful slip through my hands so easily.
"And I should've fought harder," Myles argued back, seeming just as upset.
"I guess, we both are at fault here," I said making him nod his head in agreement.
"So, what do we do now?" I questioned
The question lingering in the air, neither of us knowing what to say.
"All I know is that I miss you and I don't want to go another four years, let alone another day not having you in my life. Please tell me you feel the same," Myles pleaded, his voice gentle.
"I do," I whispered softly
"I want nothing more than to have you in my life too, Myles," I said making a wide grin appear on his face, which resembled my own.
"Friends?" Myles let out, running a hand through his hair, indicating that he was nervous.
"Friends," I reiterated my smile widening slightly.
Hours flew by of us talking non-stop, it almost felt as if nothing change.
The two of us easily falling back into a time before we were apart.
Like that last piece of the puzzle you lost was found and you can finally complete the puzzle.
It was natural
And though I was happy to have Myles back in my life.
I couldn't help but be saddened that it was only as a friend because deep down I wanted more.
