"AND JAMESON WINSSSSSSSS!!!" The announcer shouted through the mic making everyone on our side of the bleachers go crazy with excitement.
I watched happily as the boys jumped on one another with joy for winning their first game of the season, the feeling of pride swelling within me for our team.
"Come on," Talia said with a grin on her face tugging my arm down the bleacher, her other hand wrapped in Wests', dragging him down with us.
Looking in her line of sight, I saw Lance with Malia wrapped up into his side and Myles not far away from us.
"Not bad, boys," Talia said once we stood in front of them with a slightly impressed look.
"Is that a compliment I hear Jackson," Lance teased a smirk on his face as Talia rolled her eyes.
"Don't let it get to your head Cunnigham, it's already big enough," Talia retorted before leaning back into West's side.
"Yeah, I would hate to have a big head like yours," Lance retorted back causing the two to begin bickering.
I swear they fight like brother and sister.
"Congrats, on the win, you did great out there!" I said to Myles, standing next to him
"Thanks, Twinkle Toes," Myles said peering down at me with a happy grin, that I couldn't help but return.
A strand of his hair fell in front of his face and before I could stop myself I'm reaching to push it back.
The grin on his face widens, his penetrating gaze making my face heat up.
"MALIA!" Lance yelled, making Myles and I turn our attention away from each other and to Lance who was currently hiding from Talia who was being held back by West.
"Hey, how about we start heading to the party," I said trying to diffuse the situation before Talia ends up hurting Lance.
"Yes! Brilliant idea Jesse," Lance agreed before scurrying away with Malia to what I assume is his car.
"Wimp," Talia said rolling her eyes.
"You coming with us?" Talia asked looking back at me, West's arm wrapped around her.
"Nah, I'm gonna go with Myles," I said not wanting to third wheel.
"Okay, see you there," Talia said sending a wink in my direction before walking away with Wes who sent us a nod.
"Someone wants to be near me," Myles teased as I turned to look at him.
"Don't flatter yourself, I simply don't want to see Talia and Wes swap spit," I said rolling my eyes.
Though, Talia and West aren't big on PDA I didn't want to intrude.
Plus, I don't mind spending more time with Myles.
Though he doesn't have to know that.
Spotting his car close by I began making my way over.
Climbing into the passenger side of his black jeep, I let out a hum of delight at the feeling of leather seats.
"Nice car," I complimented, once Myles sat in the driver's seat.
"Thanks," He replied sending me a smile before starting the car.
The drive over was fun as Myles and I belted to songs that played on the radio, laughing at how terrible we sounded.
Once we arrived I couldn't help me be saddened, a part of me wanting to stay in the car and continue to sing horribly to songs with Myles.
"Wanna ditch?" Myles said making me look over at him in shock.
I guess I wasn't the only one who didn't wanna leave.
"You don't wanna go in? I mean the party is to celebrate your win," I said as his eyes flickered to my own.
"I can think of a better idea to celebrate my win, than getting wasted at a high school party," Myles said scoffing at the idea as I nodded in agreement.
"Besides, I would rather spend time with you," He spoke gently.
His words tugged at my heartstrings, a small smile appearing on my face.
"Me too," I replied, his lips curling into a smile in response.
Starting back up the car we continued our rendition, making sure to shoot a text to our friends to let them know we won't be going.
Talia: Have fun! ;)
The incoming text making me roll my eyes in amusement.
Me: I will! <3
The sound of the engine dying, made me look up from my phone to see that we've already arrived at our location.
"Debby's Diner," I read out loud once we were out of the car.
"You're gonna love it," Myles said with a smile, before slipping his hand into mine.
Peering down at our intertwined hands, I smiled at how perfectly they fit.
A bell rang above us noting our entrance into the diner.
From the black and white diamond tiled floor, the red leather booths, the jukebox in the corner of the room, the familiar voice of Etta James flowing from it, to the poodle skirts the waitresses wore, and leather jackets adorned on the waiters, it felt like we were transported to the 50s.
Myles was right.
I love it!
"Come on," Myles said tugging on my hand, amused at my face of astonishment.
"What can a get you kiddos?" A woman asked once we took our seats in a booth near the back.
The woman had wavy dark brown hair that was pulled into a high ponytail, vibrant green eyes, and a jubilant smile on her face, her lips covered in red lipstick.
Despite how young she looked, the wrinkle lines on her face showed that she might be in her mid-forties.
Looking at her name tag I saw that her name was Debby.
"Myles Langston, is that you," She said in shock and excitement, once she got a good look at us.
"I haven't seen you since you were a little boy. Now look at you, all grown up," Debby gushed as she squished his cheeks.
I laughed as a small blush appeared on Myles's face.
"And who's this? Your girlfriend I hope? Maybe, not though she's too beautiful to be your girlfriend," Debby teased making Myles' face turn a deeper shade of pink.
"Hi, I'm Jesse," I said introducing myself with a smile.
"THE JESSE!" Debby squealed.
"I remember when Myles would come in with his mother, talking non-stop about his best friend Jesse. I always wanted to meet you with the way this boy talked so passionately about you. This boy is really in lo-"
"Alright, alright Debby, I think that's enough," Myles said cutting off Debby, his hand going through his hair.
"Sorry," Debby said sheepishly
"I'm just so thrilled to meet you! Anyway, what do you guys want to order?" Debby said making Myles release a sigh of relief at the change in subject.
After we ordered our food Debby sent us a final wave, making sure to inform us that we should come to the dinner more.
"So," I started, a cheeky grin playing on my face.
"You talked about me," I said making Myles release a groan.
"Can we please not discuss this, Debby embarrassed me enough," He pleaded, his cheeks flushing once me.
"Oh, I thought it was cute! Besides, I used to talk about you all the time," I said with a small smile on my face.
Used to, more like still do.
"Really," Myles said surprised, before thanking the waitress who set down our chocolate milkshakes.
"Yup,"
"I still remember the time Nevah duck taped my mouth shut because I was talking too much," I said, the memory making us laugh.
"That definitely seems like something she would do," Myles says, shaking his head in amusement.
"How is she by the way? I heard she opened a new restaurant," The statement making me think back to the last call I had with my sister, which was last night.
"She's doing great! She's currently in New York, as she just opened a new restaurant a couple of months ago in Manhattan. The restaurant is a huge success and has given her the opportunity to start a chain of restaurants on the east coast in the upcoming years. Though, she does say she misses California and can't wait to come back." I said as he nodded his head in interest.
My older sister, Nevah Montogomery is one of my biggest role models.
Not only is she a successful entrepreneur at the age of 27, owning a chain of restaurants on the West-coast and soon the East. She's one of the most hard-working, kind, and compassionate people I know.
Despite the nine-year age gap between us two, we were extremely close. We told each other everything and even when Nevah went off to college we made sure to call each other every day and keep each other updated on our lives.
"Can't believe it took Noah four years to pop the question, I was sure it would've happened sooner," Myles said making a smile appear on my face.
"I know, but it was worth the wait. The wedding to planned to happen in April." I said
"I still can't believe it took them so long to get together, even at 5 years old I could tell they liked each other," Myles said making me laugh.
"It was enemies to lovers," I said trying to put into words their love story.
Nevah and Noah were sworn enemies with both of them known as the golden boy and golden girl of their high school, constantly competing against each other. All throughout high school, they would pull pranks on each other, compete against each other on tests and sports to see who was better and argued like an old married couple.
They swore they hated each other, but everyone knew that wasn't true.
However, it wasn't until they discovered that they would both be attending Stanford, that they tried to put their petty rivalry aside.
Deciding that they would just act like they didn't know each other.
Unbeknownst to them, fate had different plans. The two of them couldn't stay away from each other, especially with their friend groups intermingling.
Once, they realized that they couldn't avoid each other, they decided to try being friends. Who knew that a simple suggestion would lead to them falling in love with one another.
Since then they've been happier than could be, their love for one another never seeming to dull only growing as the days go on.
"That's one way to describe it, though their story will be great to tell their children," Myles said as I nodded in agreement.
Moving on from the topic of my sister we began to talk about anything and everything.
Only taking breaks to eat, which arrived soon after our drinks, and to stare at each other in comfortable silence.
Like now.
"You're doing it again," I said my lips tilting into a smile
"What?" Myles said in faux innocence.
"You know what, " I said rolling my eyes, though the smile on my face remained.
"Just enjoying the view," He said a smirk on his face, making me roll my eyes for the thousandth time today.
Before I can come with a retort, I noticed that his smirk fell, his attention no longer on me but behind me.
Turning around I caught sight of where his attention was.
A couple of booths ahead of us sat Myles's mother with a man I've never seen before.
The man looked to be in his mid-thirties.
Curly blond hair sat on the top of his head, his sky blue eyes glinting with joy, standing out against his sun-kissed skin, as his wide grin showed his pearly whites.
The smile of the man reflected that of Myles's mother, who looked like she couldn't stop smiling even if she wanted to, her grey eyes shining with happiness.
Turning back around, I noticed that Myles now his attention on his empty plate, a pensive expression on his face.
"You okay?" I asked gently, placing my hand over his in an attempt to comfort him and let him know that I'm here for him.
Shifting his gaze off the plate and to mine a soft smile played on his lips, his hand squeezing mine.
"I haven't seen her look that happy in years, it's nice," Myles said looking over at them once more, the couple laughing with one another, mirth reflected in their eyes.
With one last glance, we dropped the topic.
___
"Thanks for tonight, I had a lot of fun. Way better than getting wasted at some party," I said once Myles parked in front of my house.
I frowned slightly at the sight of my house, not wanting this night to end.
"Me too, we should definitely do this again," He said making my frown turn into a smile.
"Yeah, I'd like that," I said making a smile appear on his face.
"Well, goodnight," I said though I made no effort to leave the car.
Seeing that I wasn't ready to leave yet, Myles turned on the radio, letting a low hum filled the car.
For just a few more moments we sat there, no words needed to be spoken, just enjoying the other's presence.
One word ranged through my mind as I sat there.
