"Hey, what's got lover boy in such a daze," Lance said as he approached me by my locker, a smirk on his face as I rolled my eyes in response.
"You're one to talk, seeing as you go all Romeo the moment you see Malia," I retorted as West snorted in amusement.
"Hey, don't you laugh. We all know that Talia has you wrapped around her finger," Lance said sending a glare in West's direction.
West simply shrugged in response knowing it was true and having no problem with it.
Lance wasn't lying when he called out how distracted I was.
All I could think about all day was how close I was to kissing her.
If it wasn't for Kyle's interruption, I would've finally have known what it would be like to kiss her.
Though maybe it's for the best.
I mean I just got her into my life again and I don't want to complicate things again.
The classes before lunch seemed to go by in a flash, none of the information being retained as my mind was somewhere else.
I'm sure you could assume what served as such a distraction.
Planting my lunch tray on the table a frown made its way onto my face when I noticed Jesse's absence.
My mood dampened as lunch progressed and she wasn't present.
Talia shot me a glance noticing my lack of engagement in the conversation.
"Stop pouting, she's in the studio," Talia said making Lance snort in amusement.
Sending her a grateful smile I rose from my seat, giving them a final wave before heading out of the cafeteria.
My feet moved quickly up the steps eager to get to my destination.
Arriving at the entrance of the studio, I halted in my steps at the beautiful sight before me.
Jesse moved with an unrivaled passion.
She whirled around like a tornado, her turns sharp, feet pointed perfectly.
Her extensions were perfect and when she leaped it seemed as if she soared through the air, always landing gracefully on her feet.
The fluidity in her movements was amazing and the way her face conveyed each emotion was incredible.
I couldn't stop staring.
Her performance is completely captivating.
The moment her dance came to an end I couldn't help but clap in awe.
She jumped in shock, before turning around to meet my awestruck face with a bashful smile.
"Hi," She said shyly.
"Hey," I said still in shock about her performance as I entered further into the room.
"So, you saw all of that," She said motioning around the room, her eye avoiding contact with mine.
"Yeah, and I'm happy I did! You were incredible Jesse! Your graceful yet fierce movement was beyond anything I've ever seen. You truly are the best dancer every Twinkle Toes!" I praised making her dart her head down in embarrassment.
"Thanks," She said giving me a small smile which I returned.
"So, what are you doing here, aren't you suppose to be in lunch," She said, changing to the subject.
"So are you," I retorted as she rolled her eyes at my response.
"Here," I said nudging a ham sandwich in her direction, knowing that she'll probably be hungry.
"Thanks," She replied before taking the sandwich from me.
She took a seat in front of the mirror, patting her hand on the spot next to her, motioning for me to take a seat beside her.
"I had to practice my solo for the dance recital that's coming up," She explained, making me nod my head in understanding.
"I'll definitely have front seats," I said making a grin appear on Jesse's face.
"I'll be looking forward to that," She replied before taking a bit of her sandwich.
We ate in comfortable silence neither of us feeling the need to fill the air with conversation, being around each other being enough.
Looking around the room I couldn't help but chuckle at a fond memory that popped into my head.
"What?" Jesse asked curiously.
"I was just thinking about that time when we were ten and you were trying to teach me the waltz," I said making her laugh.
"Oh, that went horrible," She said releasing a small groan.
"HEY! It wasn't that bad," I retorted as she snorted at my response.
"Yeah, okay says the one who didn't have their toes stepped on every second," She said as I smile apologetically at her.
"Ouch!" Jesse cried out in pain yet again, as my foot stepped onto hers.
"I'm sorry Jesse, maybe we should stop," I said worriedly as she hopped on one foot.
"NO!" She said quickly.
"I will teach you the waltz if it's the last thing I do," She said determinedly, as I released a sigh of defeat.
"How about this time, you place your feet on mines so that there is no way that I step on them," I suggested not wanting her to get hurt further.
"Brilliant," Jesse said ecstatically before doing as I said.
Once we were in position, one arm wrapped around her waist and the other in her hand, we tried again.
"Left"
"Right"
"Front"
"Back"
Listening carefully to her directions I slowly began to get the steps.
"I'm sorry about that, but in the end, I did learn a few things. I think I may still remember," I said confidently.
"You better, or the ten hours I spent teaching you was a waste," Jesse said playfully.
Rising from my seat on the floor I moved to stand in front of Jesse, now hovering over her.
"What?" She asked amused peering up at me.
"Let's see if I'm any better eight years later," I said holding my hand out for her.
Jesse's eyes widen in shock, but she quickly recovered her lips curling into a smile.
"Okay," Jesse replied before placing her hand into mine.
"But, first we need music," Jesse said with an excited grin before moving over to the speakers in the corner of the room.
The soft melody of the violin filled the room a pleased smile making its way onto Jesse's face before she made her way over to me.
"I don't have to step on your toes this time around?" She teased.
"No," I replied rolling my eyes.
Getting into position, my left wrapped itself around her waist bringing her closer.
I tried to ignore the way my heartbeat quicken at our close proximity.
Her right arm wrapped around my neck, her hand settling at the base of my neck.
Her gaze flickered up to mine as our free hands intertwined with one another.
"Ready," She whispered gently her gaze unwavering.
With a nod of my head, we began.
Left
Right
Front
Back
Her previous words replaying in my head as we danced gracefully around the room, our movements in sync.
A surprised look graced Jesse's face before a gentle smile replaced it.
It seemed as if we were wrapped in our own bubble, just us two and no one else.
All I could see was her.
How her brown eyes shined with delight.
The way her lips curved up in a beautiful smile.
The loose strands of her hair that fell from her bun that framed her face perfectly.
The feeling of her soft hand wrapped in mine.
The way her other hand softly played with the ends of my hair making me grin down at her happily.
Sadly this blissful feeling I was experiencing came to a screeching halt.
Ring
The bell rang violently, making Jesse and I stop in our steps.
It seems that lunch is now over and it's time to report to our class, which means our dance has come to an end as well.
"We should get to class," Jesse said disappointedly.
Seems I'm not the only one who doesn't want this to end.
"How about we skip," I suggested
"I can't," She replied though she made no effort to take a step back.
"Come on, it's clear neither of us wants to go. We can just hide out here," I urged.
A pensive look crossed Jesse's face as she contemplated my words.
It seemed like ages, but in reality, it was only a few seconds before Jesse nodded her head in agreement.
A large grin stretched out on my face that mirrored her own.
For the rest of the day, we danced together, whispering to each other, teasing the other on their dance skills.
Though we know Jesse is a far better dancer than me.
Sometimes we allowed the music to fill the space for us.
Lost in our own world.
Just Jesse and Myles.
