Chapter 11

"Derek!" Stiles yells, slapping him on the cheek. "Derek, come on!" Stiles slaps him once again.

"Come on, Derek." I mutter, biting my nails. Stiles raises his hand preparing to slap him again but hesitates. He closes his palm, makes a fist, and brings it down towards his unconscious face. Derek's eyes snap open as he grabs Stiles' fist moments before disaster. I let out a breath. "Derek." I crouch down next to him as his eyes dart around the room.

"Where is she?"

"Jennifer?" Stiles answers frantically. "Gone with Scott's mom."

"She took her?" His brows furrow.

"Yeah, and if that's not enough of a kick to the balls, Scott left with Deucalion, okay? So we gotta get you out of here. The police are coming right now, and we gotta get you the hell out of here." Stiles and I begin pulling Derek up but he stops us.

"Whoa. What about Cora?"

"She's with Peter, come on." We lift him up and dash to the hospital entrance.

"You go ahead, I'll hold the police up." Stiles stops by the doors.

"You need any help?" I ask looking over at him.

"No, it's fine. Just make sure Cora's okay." I nod before running over to Derek's car. I hop in the passenger seat as we make our way to the meeting location. Derek stops the car next to Argent, Allison, and Isaac.

"Where's Scott and Stiles?" Allison asks, looking over at me.

"Stiles is going to hold the cops off for us at the hospital."

"So we have to go right now." Isaac says as Derek grabs Cora.

"What about Scott and Melissa?" Argent asks.

"Jennifer took Melissa." Derek replies while holding Cora. I open the door of his car as he puts Cora inside.

"What about Scott?" Allison asks. I look over to Derek but he doesn't say anything. I let out a breath.

"He made a pact with Deucalion." I say simply.

"What so he's with them now?" Her eyes widen.

"Yeah," I say softly.

"Wha- I don't under- why would he do that?"

"He didn't know what else to do."

"She's dying, isn't she?" Isaac asks. I pace around the loft, stealing glances at Cora's body.

she's going to be okay, right...

she has to be

"I don't know." Derek answers softly.

"So what are you going to do?"

"I don't know." Derek answers after a while as his eyes stay fixed on Cora.

"Wanna figure something out? Because while Scott and Stiles were out there trying to help people from being killed, you were in here, rolling around the sheets with the actual killer." His voice rises. "Do you get how many people she's killed? Erica and Boyd are dead, Cora is dying, and you are doing nothing!" He takes a breath. "Why'd you do this to us, Derek? Was it all about the power? Were you bored? Were you lonely?"

"Maybe." Derek mutters. My gaze shifts over to him.

I should've been there for him. If only I'd found out sooner...

"I told Cora I wouldn't leave." Derek speaks up as Isaac begins walking towards the door. "I'll help the others when I figure out how to help her."

"There's no time!" Isaac screams. I flinch, before turning my gaze over to him.

"Have a heart why don't you!" I yell as I stare into his eyes. "Our sister is dying and you expect us to just leave her here alone?"

"The full moon's coming. The Sheriff and Melissa are gonna be dead."

"I want to help them but-"

"Then do something. She doesn't need all three of you here. What good is that going to do? At least try to save someone else's life in the meantime." He turns away and walks towards the door. "I'm gonna try and help them. You can sit here and perfect the art of doing nothing." The door slams shut with a bang.

"I wouldn't take it personally." Peter says from his spot on the stairs as he begins walking down. "Anger is just a tool. He's using it to excuse shifting allegiance from one Alpha to another. From you to Scott."

"Scott's not an Alpha yet." Derek says.

"But he's on his way, isn't he?" Peter turns his gaze to me. "He's right though. What use is all three of us being here."

"You want me to leave?" I cross my arms over my chest.

"Just stating the obvious." He walks towards the window. I turn my gaze to Derek.

"What do you think?" He looks up at me slowly.

"As I said at the hospital, Cora will understand. I'm not going to leave but if you want to-"

"I don't want to leave her."

"But you wanna help." He looks back to Cora. "Go, I'll let you know when I figure something out."

"Okay." I breathe out. I give one last glance to Cora before running out of the loft after Isaac as a tear rolls down my cheek.

please be okay...

"I can't shoot a gun or use a crossbow, but... well, I'm getting pretty good with these." Isaac flicks out his claws as he stares at the Argents and Stiles.

"Ditto." I add quirking my head towards Isaac.

"Alright then. Teamwork" Stiles stands up and claps his hands. "I'm going to go check on Lydia. I'm actually not that good with guns or... knifes."

"I'm shocked. I thought you would've been a natural." I smile at him as he rolls his eyes in return.

"Ha ha, very funny." He says before walking out the room. Argent looks over at us.

"You ready?"

"Are you?" I stiffen as my eyes look down at all the weapons laid out on the table.

"We're good." Allison confirms looking over to her dad, who has his eyes still on me.

"Allison, you and Isaac can go pack the car so long." She nods before they leave with an assortment of guns and weapons. "Look." He says after a while. "I know how hard it must have been to lose your family like that, but Kate's dead. She paid for her crime and there's nothing more you can do."

"It's not only Kate." I look up at him. "It's hunters in general. They killed us like savages. You know what it's like to be 7 years old and someone comes up and holds a crossbow to your head?" He lets out a breath.

"That shouldn't have happened. As hunters, we go by a code. We hunt those who hunt us."

"Tell that to the innocent werewolves who were murdered just for existing!" I cross my arms over my chest before letting out a breath. "Sorry, bad memories." It's quiet for a moment before he breaks it with a slow voice.

"What we're doing now..." He trails off as he turns his gaze away from me. "I'd prefer it if you didn't come with." My eyes widen.

"Why? If you're going to be facing the Darach, you're going to need all the help you can get."

"Just don't come with...It's not going to help your opinion of hunters. " He doesn't give me a chance to reply as he grabs his gun and leaves the room. I begin to make my way back to the loft with one thought swimming through my head:

what is he planning?

'It's not going to help your opinion of hunters'... Is he going to do something? Something that would hurt werewolves?

But why would he want to hurt werewolves especially if Isaac is the only werewolf with him? If he is going to attack Isaac then that would leave only him and Allison to defend themselves against the Darach and she clearly wants to take Argent as her last sacrifice. So why ask me not to come and attack the only werewolf with you. Unless...

My eyes widen as I grab my phone out of my pocket. I quickly dial Allison's number and wait for her to pick up.

"Come on, Allison..." I mutter, tapping my foot on the loft stairs.

"Nina?"

"Allison, where are you?" I rush out.

"At the bank vault. Why didn't you come with?"

"Listen to me, your dad's going to sacrifice himself! You hear me?" I suddenly hear electricity and someone grunting in pain. "Allison?"

"What are you doing?" A bang sounds before the line goes silent.

"Allison?" I look at the screen to see that I've been disconnected. I stand frozen for a moment as I try to process what this all means.

He's done it...

She has all three now

I let out a shaky breath before opening up the loft doors. Peter and Derek's heads whip around to face me.

"That was quick." Peter furrows his brows.

"The Darach took Argent."

"What? How?" Derek's eyes widen.

"He sacrificed himself." I let out a breath. "Cora is dying, the Darach is going to kill three more innocent people, and Derek is about to be mauled by a werewolf with a foot fetish." I plop down onto the couch and put my head in my hands.

"On the bright side, we might have figured out a way to save Cora." I perk my head up and look at Peter.

"What? You found a way to save her?"

"It's very risky but I've heard it's possible."

"How?" I stand up and walk over to him as Derek begins pacing around the loft.

"The power of an Alpha." He says simply. I squint my eyes.

"Yeah, I'm going to need a little more."

"The extra spark that an Alpha has might be enough to save her life. If Derek takes her pain for long enough... it might save her."

"Why do I feel like there's a 'but'?"

"But he will lose being an Alpha." I turn my gaze over to Derek as he paces around before going towards Cora.

"I'm going to do it." Peter puts his hand out to stop him.

"I can understand not seeing a downside to this, as you haven't exactly been Alpha of the year, but think about what else you'd be losing."

"I don't care about power. Not anymore."

"What about the power to fight back? Correct me if we're wrong, but as Nina said Kali's ultimatum still stands. The full moon is tomorrow night, and if you couldn't beat her as an Alpha, how do you think you're gonna fare as a beta?"

"I'll help." I nod determinedly at Derek.

"I don't mean to be rude, but you are a really bad fighter." Peter interjects.

"Again?" I groan before looking over at Peter. "How about we test that theory right now?"

"Nina." Derek says, giving me a look.

"He started it." I say pointing at Peter.

"And I'm finishing it. Look, I don't want you getting hurt, especially for me."

"What if this was exactly what Jennifer was hoping for?" Peter says, thoughtfully. "She would know the only way for you to save Cora would be giving up your power. Maybe that's what she was gonna have you do at the hospital."

"Why?"

"So that you wouldn't be able to face the alphas without her. She wants you to come to her. It's all a part of her little seduction, and she is still seducing you. She needs you on her side."

I really wish we killed her when we had the chance...

"You." Lydia says with a soft voice as she stares at Peter's face.

"Me." Peter says looking away from her eyes. I get up and go towards them.

"You." She says with more venom. Peter lets out a sigh.

"Me."

"What did you do?" I cross my arms over my chest.

"It's a long story." Lydia glares at Peter.

"I have all day." I say glaring at him as well.

"Well, I don't so..." Peter turns around and walks further into the loft.

"What are you doing here, Lydia?" I motion for her to come inside which she does.

"We need to find the Nemeton and Stiles says you guys know where it is." Peter closes the book, he was trying to read and stands up next to her.

"Well I'm sorry to burst your bubble, sweetheart, but we don't know where it is."

"You don't know where it is?" Lydia breaths in disbelief. "But Stiles said you'd been there."

"We have. But after a few memorable experiences there, Talia... Derek and Nina's mother and my older sister... decided that she didn't ever want us going back. She knew how dangerous it was and took the memory of its location from us." Peter says, glancing at me and Derek. I subconsciously rub the back of my neck.

"But then how are we supposed to find it?" We all shrug in reply. Lydia lets out a sign before heading to the door.

"Lydia wait." I say rushing toward her. "Do they need any help there?"

"We're trying to find the Nemeton because they're in the cellar but since you guys don't know..."

"I can help. I can't remember where it is but I'm willing to help in any way I can."

"What about Cora?" I glance back to look at her sleeping figure.

"Derek has a plan."

"I hope it works." She smiles softly before walking out of the loft. I walk over to Cora and stroke her cheek before running to catch up to Lydia as we make our way to the Vet Clinic. Once we arrive we spot Allison, Isaac, Deaton, and Stiles around the metal table. Allison meets my eyes as I walk towards her.

"How did you know?"

"He told me to stay behind as to not worsen my already bad view of hunters. I didn't know what he meant until later." She nods slowly. "Sorry about your dad." I turn to Stiles. "And yours."

"Well, maybe they're not dead yet. So we need to figure out where it is." He runs a hand through his hair. "It has to be on a telluric current, or maybe even at the axis of two or where they all intersect. I just know it's where Derek took Paige to die."

"My dad and Gerard were there once. But Gerard said it was years ago, and he couldn't remember where it was. And my dad obviously isn't here to tell us now." Allison looks down at the table.

"Yeah, mine neither. Any luck with you guys?" Stiles turns to me.

"We don't know where it is either. My mother took the memory from us."

"Then how do we find this place?" Isaac asks.

"There might be a way." Deaton says staring into the distance before turning his gaze to us. "But it's dangerous. We're gonna need Scott."

Stiles and Deaton rush off to find Scott while we sit in tense silence until the sound of my phone ringing breaks it. I leave the room quickly and answer it.

"Peter?"

"Cora's not looking too great. There's black blood coating her lips and she's having trouble breathing." My heart drops.

"But Derek's pla-"

"Nina, it could kill him." My heart drops.

saving my sister could mean losing my brother...

"Peter..." My voice trails off. "Do you think he'll be alright?"

"I honestly don't know but it's worth the risk isn't it?"

"Can I speak to Derek." There's some shuffling before Derek's voice sounds.

"I don't care what it does to me." He says right off the bat. "As long as Cora can survive."

"But, Derek this could kill you."

"As Peter said. It's worth the risk." His voice softens. "I promised her I wouldn't leave her again, nor you. I'm not going to give up without trying something."

"Okay." I whisper. It's silent for a moment as the weight of what he's about to do sets in. "Derek. Don't die."

"I don't intend to." I'm about to hang up the phone when I hear Peter's voice in the background.

"What about me?"

"You've been there, done that." I say with a smirk knowing full well that he rolled his eyes. I freeze as I smell a familiar scent. I put my phone away and walk outside to see Stiles, Deaton, and Scott.

Scott...

"Look who finally came crawling back." I smile as they approach me. He looks down at his feet before turning to face me.

"Hi, Nina." He smiles lightly. My eyes look into his soft, brown ones again, just like yesterday at the-

"I'm glad you're back." I smile quickly before turning around and walking back into the clinic, a heatness traveling to my cheeks.

I almost forgot about what happened at the hospital between me and Scott... does he remember it too? Did it actually mean anything?

I shake my head as they walk in through the doors.

Lydia, Isaac, and I help Deaton get the room set up for the surrogate sacrifices. Apparently, Scott, Stiles, and Allison are going to sacrifice themselves in place of their kidnapped parent. Deaton said he can bring them back but the whole thing sounds completely ridiculous. Then again here we are fighting a dark druid and a pack of Alphas in a town of werewolf and werewolf hunters.

I dump the last bag of ice into one of the tubs as the three of them return each with an object that has meaning to them about their parents.

"Alright." Deaton says putting an empty bag down. "What did you bring?"

"Um, I got my dad's badge." Stiles says holding the Sheriff's badge up. "Jennifer kind of crushed it in her hand, so I tried hammering it out a bit. Still doesn't look great."

"Well, it doesn't need to look good if it has meaning."

"Is that an actual silver bullet?" Isaac looks warily at the bullet clutched in Allison's fingers.

"My dad made it. It's kind of a ceremonial thing. When one of us finishes learning all the skills to be a hunter, we forge a silver bullet as a testament to the code." She says staring down the engraved bullet which still manages to send chills down my spine.

"Scott?" He raises his head to look at Deaton as he opens his palm to reveal a simple wristwatch.

"My dad got my mom this watch when she first got hired at the hospital. She used to say it was the only thing in their marriage that ever worked."

"Okay, the three of you will get in. Each of them will hold you down until you're essentially... Well, dead." I fidget with my fingers. The thought of essentially killing another person does not sit well with me, especially people I've grown to somewhat care about. "But it's not just someone to hold you under. It needs to be someone who can pull you back, someone that has a strong connection to you, a kind of emotional tether." Lydia looks at Allison and begins to walk to her, but Deaton stops her. "Lydia, you go with Stiles." Allison furrows her brows and glances at Isaac, Scott, and me, then at Deaton.

"Are you sure, I mean, Scott and I both have to go under." Allison glances towards Isaac before slowly turning back to Scott who is already looking at her.

"It's okay." He tries to sound neutral but his tone says otherwise. I take a step back, not liking this awkward tension being created.

they were definitely more than friends...

"Nina." My head perks up at the mention of my name. "You go with Scott." My eyes widen as I look over at him as he glances into my eyes before turning to Allison.

They begin to take slow tentative steps towards the tubs. Allison in the first, Stiles in the next, and Scott in the last. I fidget with my fingers as I hesitantly stand behind Scott who stares into the water with trepidation.

I don't want to do it... I don't think I can.

Scott turns around and looks me in the eyes.

"It'll be okay." He whispers, giving me a tight smile.

"I should be telling you that." He suddenly grabs my hand in his and gives it a reassuring squeeze before turning around and facing the tub again. The three of them exchange glances before stepping into the tub. The room is filled with gasps as they lower themselves into the ice-cold water.

"By the way." Stiles says between shivers. "If I don't make it back and you do, you should probably know something. Your dad's in town." Scott's eyes widen as he turns to face the front again. He begins shivering but I'm not sure if it's because his dad's back or that he's about to die. I think it's probably a mixture of both.

Deaton nods at me as Isaac and Lydia take slow steps towards the tub. I take a deep breath and do the same. My heart pounds loudly in the chest the closer I get to the tub, the closer I get to killing Scott.

I'm going to kill Scott...

Allison, Stiles, and Scott share a look before nodding at each other. I roll my sleeves up and put my shaking hands on his shoulders. Scott gives one last gasp of breath before I steady my hands and push him down.

The worst part is that he isn't fighting back...

I turn to look at Lydia and Isaac next to me who are wearing matching expressions to my own. I turn my wide eyes back to Scott as I stare into his face...

I'm killing Scott...

His eyes suddenly snap open as his glowing orbs stare back at me. He begins struggling a bit as the water enters his lungs. He's not using his full potential at all, it's more like the body's defense mechanism that's fighting back. Trying desperately to stay alive even if the brain tells it to stop. And it does stop... Scott's body relaxes under my grip as I stare into his now-closed eyes.

I killed Scott...

I take a step back and stare at what I've done. The tears begin rolling down my cheeks as it all sinks in.

Scott is dead...
