Chapter 2

Blood, flesh... anything...

I need something. Something to rip apart. Something to kill. My eyes dart around the barren forest for movement. For something.

And then I hear it...

Child's laughter

I run in that direction as fast as I can until it comes into view. A little girl playing with a brown dog by the stream. She splashes puddles while the dog hops around playfully.

"Alice!" A man's voice calls. Footsteps approach the girl as she sits crouched by the bank. "It's getting late, we should head back now." The dog stops playing and begins to sniff the air. Its eyes dart around the trees until they stop in my direction.

"Five more minutes." The girl pleads, looking up into her father's eyes.

"Fine," He sighs, looking behind him. "But you're explaining to your mother why we're late." The girl giggles before turning back to the water. The dog keeps its eyes locked in my direction.

"Max." The girl calls him and the dog begins growling.

"What do you see, Max? A squirrel?" The dad looks at the dog before glancing in my direction. "Max!" The dog suddenly starts running. I bare my teeth as it stops in front of me and growls. I stare back into its eyes. Its eyes are soft and warm compared to its vicious face snarling at me. I don't move any further but just stare into the dog's eyes. "Max!" The dad calls again, he begins to walk forward.

I begin to growl lowly as I stare at the dog. It whimpers before running off, past the dad and back to the little girl who holds him dearly. The man looks back in my direction with furrowed brows.

"Hello?" He questions, taking a slow step forward. I stare at his approaching figure as his heartbeat becomes more audible. "Who's there?" He takes another step forward. I pounce and knock him to the floor.

"Daddy!" The little girl screams. The dog begins barking. I stare into his eyes and growl into his face.

"Run! Alice!" He screams to his daughter as he struggles to free himself. I raise my claws and start to bring them down onto his chest.

A hand grabs onto my arm. I glare up at the person and growl at them. He pushes me back and off the man.

"Go!" The voice yells. The dad clambers to his feet, grabs his daughter, and runs off into the night with the dog following close behind. I scramble to my feet and lock my eyes on the new man. He has curly, brown hair and wears a scarf around his neck. He glows his eyes and begins approaching.

I slash at his chest, but he manages to dodge. I take this chance to kick his side but miss. I start viciously slashing at him again until hands grab my waist and toss me to the side. I roll over before jumping to my feet. Derek stares at me with hard eyes.

"Come on, Nina!" He tries. "You're stronger than this. I know you are."

I growl in response and lunge at him. He grabs ahold of my arms and roars at me. The sound hits my eardrums and I cower. He glares at me with his red, luminous eyes. I look away and scurry off.

"After her!" Derek yells, I hear footsteps chase after me as I run off into the night. I jump past tree trunks, over rocks, and under branches as fast as I can.

why are they trying to stop me?

I finally have freedom after three months and they want to catch me again?

not happening.

I take a sharp right turn and run further into the bush. I keep running until I can't hear anything behind me anymore. I stop and glance around my surroundings for my next prey.

Come on...

I hear a heartbeat beating rapidly in the distance. I set my target and charge in the direction as fast as I can. I see a figure standing by a tree glancing around fervently. I crouch down and stare at them until their back is turned. I charge with full speed and knock them to the ground. I snarl before getting ready to attack.

The figure growls back at me. I drop my hand as I stare at them. It takes this chance to push me to the ground and raise its claws to my throat.

"Cora!" I growl out. She stops and stares at me for a moment before getting up and scurrying off. I roll my eyes before clambering to my own feet and following after her. Together we run through the forest, aimlessly searching for another heartbeat until I smell it...

Blood

My eyes early dart around the forest as my nose sniffs the air for a better scent. The wind blows over my cheeks and the scent amplifies. I growl and chase after it with Cora on my tail. I keep dashing through the trees eager to get a taste of that delicious blood... the flesh that comes with it...

I stop in my tracks as a loud high-pitched sound enters my ears. My hands cover them as I try to adjust. I growl and begin to run away from the sound, ignoring everything else around. More high-pitched noises start popping up.

Stop, please just make it stop...

I continue running aimlessly through the night until I reach a field. Footsteps sound behind me as Cora and Boyd catch up and take the lead. I follow after, my pace slowing down ever so slightly.

Just make this noise stop

I jump over a fence and land by the entrance to the school... the school. Beacon Hills High School. This was supposed to be my school. My school before-

A heartbeat sounds in my ears. A new one. Not Cora's nor Boyd's. I follow after them but stop as a man appears in my vision. The same man from before... curly hair and a scarf. I snarl at him as I hear his blood pumping through his veins.

"Oh, great." He breathes before turning around to face us. Boyd lets out a loud growl causing the guy in front of us to glow his eyes amber and stare at our figures. Screeching tires sound from behind me. I whip around to investigate but hastily close my eyes to the bright light. The horns start blaring fervently.

not more loud noises

I weakly growl before running off after Cora and Boyd. They both stop by the entrance to the school. They stare at something for a moment before jumping up and climbing over the school.

what?

I stop in front of the entrance and stare down the hallway. Derek stands firmly with his claws out.

"Nina." He tries again. "You can fight this. You always could." He takes a step towards me. "Alpha, Beta, Omega."

My breathing calms down as he repeats the mantra. I stare into his eyes. The eyes of my brother. The brother I thought I lost all those years ago.

"Alpha, Beta, Omega." He repeats, taking another step forward. His heartbeat hits my ears.

come on... fight it

His heart beats louder in my ears. The sound of blood flowing throughout his body takes over my senses.

no... no it's Derek. Don't even think about it

"Alpha, Beta- Nina!" I jump up and over the school after Cora and Boyd. If I'd stayed any longer I wouldn't have a brother anymore... or more likely he would only have one twin sister.

I run towards them but freeze as bright lights surround them. Arrows whizz past them illuminating the area. A woman stands on the top of the school bus with a bow in her hand as she expertly aims at them.

hunters...

I growl before turning around and running a different way. I aimlessly find an open door to the school and enter. I stop and catch my breath. The high-pitched sound enters my ears again causing me to recoil.

can't they just leave us alone?

Another sound enters my ears. Growling? I run after the noise, trying to meander my way through the maze of corridors until it becomes louder. I stop at the stairs leading down into a room. I freeze as two voices hit my ears.

"Three of them?" Derek asks.

"Yeah." The next voice sounds. I peer around the corner and see Derek sitting against the wall while the guy from the vault has his ear against a big steel door. Derek lets out a breath and closes his eyes.

"Now we just have to wait till morning." Derek breathes. The other guy smiles and turns his head around. His eyes stop on my figure at the top of the stairs.

"Uhh, Derek," Scott panics, taking a step back as I grow at him. Derek snaps his eyes open and turns his gaze to me with wide eyes.

I take a step forward.

"Nina," Derek puts his hands out as he takes a step in front of the guy. "You know how to stay in control."

I growl.

"Nina, breathe." He says. "You can fight it. Just repeat after me."

I take another step forward, keeping my eyes locked onto Derek.

"Are you sure this is going to work?" The other guy whispers.

"I know it will work." He glances at him. "I've done it before."

Their heartbeats enter my ears, their blood flowing through their veins. Their flesh that is soft and so easy to rip open with my claws...

I growl and bare my teeth.

"Nina," He tries again, taking another step towards me. "Say this after me, okay?" He takes a breath. "Alpha, Beta, Omega. Remember that one?"

I stare into Derek's eyes as he slowly approaches me.

alpha beta omega

"Alpha, Beta, Omega." Derek says, almost in front of me, "Say it."

"Derek..." The other guy breathes.

"Alpha.." I pant out my voice nothing more than a whisper.

"There we go."

"Beta.."

"Almost there."

"Omega..."

"Now breathe, okay?" He puts a hand on my arm. "Say it again," I growl and push him against the wall.

"Derek!" The other voice yells.

"Nina!" Derek rushes, holding my claws away from his face. "Fight it, okay? It's me. It's Derek!" I stare into his eyes. A tinge hits my heart. I push it away and squeeze my eyes shut.

thump... thump...thump

His heart beats rapidly filling my ears, my senses.

"Open your eyes, Nina." He says, softer. "Look at me."

I slowly peel my eyes open to stare at his. His green, natural eyes meet my own. The same eyes that have helped me through my worst moments, have helped me every full moon, have stayed with me when I've been scared and frightened... The same eyes that I have.

I step away from him and lean against a wall, squeezing my eyes shut. I dig my claws into my hands as hard as I can. Blood falls down and coats my fingers.

"Alpha, Beta, Omega," Derek repeats. "Say it again."

"Alpha..." I growl. My breathing increases as I push my claws further into my palms.

"Beta..." I grumble. I focus on the words, visualizing them in my mind. Desperately trying to remove any other thoughts or desires.

"Omega." I breathe out. I release my claws from my palms and open my eyes slowly. I turn my gaze back to his. My claws retreat back into their normal shape and my fangs disappear. Derek smiles lightly at me.

"I knew you, could do it." He pats my head softly.

"Derek." The other guy asks from the bottom of the stairs. "Who's the third heartbeat?" He rushes. Derek's eyes harden as he turns around and goes down the stairs.

"Are there still three?" He puts his head against the door and his eyes widen. He runs a hand over his head and looks up at me.

"Don't you dare," I manage to get out. I stumble down the stairs, holding the wall for support.

"What are you gonna do?" The guy questions, glancing between myself and Derek.

"I have to." Derek looks me in the eyes.

"Then I'm coming with you." I stand firmly next to him. My head sways causing me to grab onto the wall again.

"What are you doing?" The guy frets.

"You can barely stand." Derek looks at me, before turning back to the door.

"They'll rip you apart. You know that, right?" I breathe.

"You're going in there?" He questions, looking at Derek.

"Close the door behind me and keep it shut." Derek simply replies, keeping his eyes fixed on the door.

"If you go in there alone," The guy worries. "You're either going to kill them or they kill you." Derek keeps his eyes focused on the door, before glancing at me.

"That's why I'm going in alone," He breathes out before opening the door.

"Derek!" I run at door.

"Wait!" The guy yells as he grabs the door. I don't listen as I push my way past him and into the room. The door slams shut behind me.

I hear growling coming from all around me as I walk around the room. I grab onto the wall to steady myself as I look around.

"Derek." I whisper forcefully. He can be such an idiot sometimes. I hear a loud thud from further up causing my head to perk up. "Derek." I say louder as I approach the noise. More growls are heard the closer I get to them. I drag my feet as fast as I can. I stop as my head begins to hurt.

alpha beta omega

come on don't lose control now

I take a few more steps forward before I feel a sharp pain in my side. I'm thrown across the room and hit my head against a metal box. Cora approaches me and growls at my face.

"Great," I mutter getting to my feet. "I know we used to do this as kids, but guess what? We're not kids anymore." I move backward, slightly. She growls and slashes at the air in front of me. "Cora, come on." I mutter, ducking under her claws. "You were always better at this than me." Her claws graze my cheek. I glare at her. "You are so going to pay for that, tomorrow." I charge at her and slash my claws at her. I kick her side and she falls to the floor.

I let out a breath as my head begins to spin. I fall to my knees and hold the ground. Cora stands up in front of me. She approaches as I shimmy away. "Cora. Come on! It's your sister. Not just any sister, your twin." She slashes at my legs, causing me to cry out. "Surely it's hurting you as much as it's hurting me?" My back hits the wall. She stares down at me and raises her claws. A hand holds her arms and throws her to the side. Derek glares down at me.

"What are doing in here? I told you to stay outside."

"I couldn't let you risk your life like that."

"And what about you?" He grabs my hand to pull me up. "You're in no state to fight."

"I'm too stubborn to give up." He shakes his head before dodging an attack from Cora. Boyd runs up and tries to slash at my side but I move out the way just before then. Boyd growls at me and stares me down. "That's a lot of muscle." I sigh before running at him. He slashes the air and easily cuts my stomach. He takes a hold of my throat. "This... seems... really... unfair," I mutter as he begins to tighten his hold. Derek grabs him and tosses him away. I gasp as air enters my lungs again. Boyd charges at me again but Derek grabs ahold of his throat and holds him back.

"Look out!" I yell as Cora approaches from the other side. Derek reacts fast and grabs Cora's throat with his other fist. The two rabid werewolves begin slashing and struggling against Derek's grip. He glows his eyes their luminous red and roars at Boyd who snarls back without hesitation. Derek falters and they take their chance to slash at him. Derek doesn't fight back as he holds the two of them. They slash and tear and rip at him. Any exposed skin is ripped apart and filled with blood.

"Derek!" I cry as I make my way towards him. I grab onto Cora's waist to try and pull her back. Her claws dig into my hands making me cry out in pain. She snarls as her claws dig deeper. "Cora!"

Light slowly begins to filter into the room. The sun's come up. It's over. Cora releases her claws and loses her balance. She falls backward into my chest as we tumble to the ground. I hold her in my arms as her eyes close. "Cora?" The steel doors swing open as two guys run into the room. They stare at us wordlessly.

"They're okay," I mutter, feeling Cora's heartbeat. I put a strand of hair behind her ear as I breathe a sigh of relief.

"There's a teacher," Derek pants out. "I'll take care of her. Get them out of here."
