Chapter 25: The Bad Guy ✔

I am a Hale ~ S.M [1]Words: 35209

Chapter 25

I can barely remember anything about it anymore. It all seems like a dream. A nightmare. A distant memory. Maybe I've pushed it away now. Locked it in the darkest part of my mind. I hope I did.

I hope it never happened...

I don't even remember how I got here. Literally. I can barely remember getting a ride from Deaton to the police station to retrieve my bike. I can't even remember what we talked about. If we talked about anything.

But nonetheless, here I stand in front of the loft. I open the doors to be greeted by a pacing Peter. He turns his head towards me so fast I'm surprised he didn't get whiplash.

"Well?" He asks impatiently, moving towards me.

"Well, what?" I ask putting my helmet onto the small table and plopping onto the couch.

"Did you find out?"

"Find out what?"I ask getting more annoyed by his presence.

"About the weather," He says sarcastically. "What do you think?" He gives an exasperated sigh when I don't reply. "My child, remember that? Did you get hit over the head?" He mutters the last part to himself, continuing to pace. I close my eyes as I remember what happened before everything went downhill.

"I almost got blown up if that counts," I reply, plopping my feet onto the coffee table. His attention snaps to me with an unknown emotion in his eyes.

"What happened? Or let me guess-" He says with a knowing look on his face" -the nogistune."

"Bingo," I say with feigned enthusiasm.

"So what did our lovely Stiles do this time?" He says with sarcasm, swiftly knocking my feet off the coffee table. I roll my eyes but precede to tell him the events making sure to leave out certain details that took place at the animal clinic. And by certain details, I mean any details pertaining to me turning into a monster and almost killing Kira.

"-and that's when I left." I finish letting out a breath. I don't know why I told him to be honest. Maybe it's because now I know what it's like to be the bad guy. Maybe Peter will be the only person who will actually talk to me from now on.

The thought gives me chills.

"And then..." He pushes.

"T-that's the end." I stutter looking at my hands. "I came here."

"Who gave you a lift to your bike?" He presses further with a hint of a smirk on his face.

"Deaton," I answer simply, feeling edgy all of a sudden.

"What about Scott?" Hearing his name causes my stomach to twist into knots. "Being the virtuous man he is, he would definitely wait for you to wake up and would insist and taking you back."

"He was.. busy," I say fidgeting with my fingers.

"Never too busy for you." He says taking a seat next to me. "What did he do?" A knowing look appears on his face. "Or what did you do?" I stand up and run my hand through my hair.

"I like how you're focusing on this and not the fact that Derek almost got blown up and was arrested," I say trying to change the topic.

"He'll be fine. It's his fault anyway." He looks to me," He could've left whenever he wanted to. Stop trying to change the subject." He finishes in one breath.

"What do you want me to say?" I say louder than I expected. He stands up from his seat and walks towards me.

"I want you to tell me the truth." He says matching my volume. "What did you do?" I turn away from him, not wanting to meet his eyes. He let out a huff of annoyance. "As you know I'm also a werewolf, maybe not back to my full powers but a werewolf nonetheless. You know what that means." He pauses for a moment. "It means I can hear your heartbeat and right now its beating through the roof. I can also smell the fear." I hear him take a step closer. "You obviously did something so bad you won't even tell me. A so-called homicidal werewolf. So tell me... what did you do?"

"I attacked Kira!" I finally let out. "Is that what you wanna hear. I-I don't know what happened but I just wanted to hurt her and I did. The way Scott looked at me... like I was the monster and not the nogistune." I hastily wipe a fallen tear before looking back to him to see an unexpected emotion in his eyes...

pride? But not quite.

"So what if you are a monster." He starts, slowly taking steps towards me, testing me. "What's wrong with having a little darkness?"

"I think you should look in a mirror sometime."

"Look, if you wanna be as virtuous as Scott then be my guest. I'm just trying to help you."

"I'm trying to be a good person. To do the right thing and help my friends." I exclaim.

"And look where that got you." He scoffs. "Who would have thought you would take after me? Not in the Ōkami sense of course but-"

"I don't take after you," I say defiantly. "I'm not like you."

"I think you'll soon find that you're a lot like me." He smiles deviously. "You don't have to hide behind it. Embrace it. Embrace the power."

"I don't want to embrace it."

"Embracing it doesn't mean you become it-"

"It did in your case." I counter.

"-It just means you make peace with it." He continues. "Know that it's there instead of trying to fight it. Use it to your advantage." I shake my head while walking away.

"I don't need this."

"Just wait, Nina. Soon you'll realize the only person you can really count on is me."

I stop in my tracks. "You're wrong. You're a psychopath."

"That's a strong word don't you think?" He rolls his eyes. "I'm just trying to help you. You're my niece after all."

"I don't need your help." I walk toward the stairs.

"You will. Scott already walked out on you. What stops the others from doing the same thing?"

I rest my hand on the railing as his words ring in my head.

Why wouldn't the others leave me? I'm the bad guy after all.

Just like Peter...

I give him one last glance before continuing up the stairs. But not before catching him muttering something under his breath.

"Worth a shot."

I take a deep breath as I stand in front of the station.

Smile, stand tall but most importantly don't cry.

I take another breath as I open the door and walk inside. I scan the crowd of officers trying to find a friendly face before settling on a familiar one.

"Uhh, Hi...again." I smile at the green-eyed officer sitting in front of me. "Parrish, was it?"

"Correct." He smiles back at me. "And you are?"

"Nina," I answer shortly extending my hand towards him.

He stares at my face for a bit. "Oh wait, you're one of Stiles' friends from when he went missing, right?" He asks shaking my hand firmly.

"Right," I answer with a smile, trying my best not to let it drop.

"So what brings you here?"

"I'm here to visit Derek Hale. He was arrested recently."

"I'm afraid that won't be possible. Only lawyers and legal representatives are allowed to see him at the moment. What do you wanna see him for?"

"He's my brother," I confess. "I just need to talk to him. I'll be quick, I promise."

"I'm sorry, the rule still stands." He gives me a sympathetic look. I look around the station trying to wrack my brain for an excuse or anything really. My eyes catch an empty desk in the corner of the station with a vase of flowers sitting on top. A thought pops into my head.

"Please. After the explosion..." I try to muster up my best-worried voice, which isn't too hard considering I actually am. "I just need to know if he's okay. I've already lost my parents... I can't lose him either." He looks around the station.

"Look I understand that you're worried but-"

"Please... he's all I got." I give my best puppy dog eyes. He looks at me for a few seconds before letting out a breath.

"Fine. You can see him." He gets out of his chair and goes around the desk to face me. "But only for 5 minutes and don't tell anyone I'm doing this."

"Thank you." I smile back at him. "I really appreciate it." He smiles at me before leading me to the holding cell room door.

"If anyone catches you-"

"I won't mention your name. I promise." I put my pinky up. "Pinky swear?" He scoffs amused, but nonetheless completes the promise.

"5 minutes," he repeats before turning around. "I can't believe I'm risking my job for this." He mutters under his breath. I enter the room to see Argent and Derek already looking at me from their adjoined holding cells at the end of the room. I make my way quickly over to their cells.

"Why did you come here?"

"It's good to see you too, Derek," I say. He rolls his eyes at my comment as I turn my attention to Argent who is sitting with his back to Derek's cell wall. "Argent." I greet with a smile.

"Nina." He greets back.

"What happened?" Derek asks crossing his arms over his chest.

"Why do you assume anything happened?"

"Well, firstly there was an explosion; no doubt caused by Stiles... And I'm a werewolf and you reek of anxiety. " He smirks at me.

"Anything else?" I ask with an eye roll.

"You've been smiling more recently but now you're trying so hard to keep that fake smile up. Is that enough?"

"I didn't know Sherlock Holmes was a sour wolf." He gives me a blank look. "Okay fine, Something happened and I don't know what to do." Derek raises his eyebrows for me to continue. So I do, telling them the story but stopping before the part where I attack Kira. "And then I... uhh-" I trail off not knowing how to phrase this especially with a hunter right in front of me.

"What? You can tell me." Derek ensures. My eyes move to Argent. "Him too." Which causes Argent to nod slightly in response.

I take a deep breath. "I attacked Kira." Derek leans a bit closer to the bars while Argent sits straighter in his seat. "I don't know how, but I suddenly wanted to hurt her..." I run my hand through my hair. "I knocked her unconscious. B-but then I came back to my senses and Stiles knocked me out." There's silence for a few seconds until Derek speaks up.

"Do you think it was linked to the Ōkami?"

"Definitely. The nogitsune somehow managed to bring the darkness out or something like that. I don't know." A familiar feeling brewing in my head made me remember something. "I had a headache. The whole day I had this terrible headache that just wouldn't go away. It finally disappeared when I let the darkness in." Derek and Argent are both quiet for a while. Derek stares at his hands while Argent stares straight ahead with a hard look on his face.

Argent wants to kill me, I know it... I'm the enemy now. I'm the bad guy.

"I found the guy." Argent suddenly says.

"What?" He turns his gaze to me.

"The guy who has answers about what you are."

"Who is he?" Derek interjects. Argent's answer causes an immediate response from Derek.

"You seriously think that will work." Derek scoffs and looks away. Argent shrugs in response.

"He's the best lead we got. He knows more than me about the supernatural."

"No offense, but he's a psychopath."

"I know. But he's good at what he does."

"So about this guy-" I interject, "-where can I find him?"

"Allison will take you," Argent says, making eye contact with me. I nod my head in response looking at my hands.

If Allison will even talk to me. No doubt Scott and Kira already informed them all of how much of a monster I am. I'll be lucky to even have someone talk to me let alone be my friend.

I can feel tears threatening to spill but I hold it back or I at least try to. "What?" Derek interrupts my thoughts.

"What?" I question, furrowing my brows.

"What's with that look?" I glance around the holding cells trying to catch my breath.

"Scott hates me," I admit after a while, my voice coming out softer than I expected. "He wouldn't even look at me."

"Just try talking to him. Scott's a good guy, he'll come around. "

"You think so?" I meet his eyes.

"I know so." He smiles slightly at me. "Scott doesn't give up on people so easily. Especially on people he really likes." I nod my head, a slight smile forming on my lips.

I hope he talks to me again. I hope they all do.

"Thank you. Both of you." I get up to go leave but Derek stops me.

"Nina... don't die."

"I don't intend to."

I give a little smile to Parrish as I walk out of the station and back to my bike. He seems like a good, normal person and those are hard to come around these days. I get onto my bike and am about to put my helmet on when my phone buzzes in my pocket. I pull it out to see Allison's name flash on the screen. My stomach clenches.

Why is she texting me?

I hesitantly unlock my phone and read the message:

Can you come over? I need to talk to you.

I let out a breath. She wants to talk to me? I send a quick reply back, my head racing with thoughts as I do so.

She probably wants to hunt me. Lead me into a trap and kill me. Peter was right-

I push that thought away instantly and put my helmet on. I try to distract myself on the ride there but it's no use. Eventually, I reach her apartment and knock on the door which she opens a few seconds later.

"Hi," I say simply. Allison smiles at me and opens the door further. "What do you want to talk about?" I ask slowly stepping into the apartment, looking around the corner for any hidden weapons or traps.

"We think we found a way to save Stiles and get rid of the Nogitsune." She leads me further into her dad's office.

"Really?" I say in slight shock, not at the fact that they may have found a solution but rather that she was talking to me like usual. She wasn't cautious or hesitant to talk. It was like it never happened.

Maybe Scott didn't tell her? Surely he would have...

"Katashi had this scroll which contains instructions on how to exorcise a Nogitsune. But it's being transferred to federal lockup tonight."

"That sounds simple enough. If we have the right team."

"That's why I'm asking you. We need as many people as we can get."

"Are you sure you want me there?" I let out. She stops at the table and pauses for a few seconds before replying.

"If you're referring to what happened at the animal clinic, you don't have to worry." She says turning around to face me with a sincere look on her face. When I don't reply she continues. "I trust you, Nina. You're not the bad guy here."

"How do you know? If I did that to Kira what stops me from doing that to you or to anyone else?" My voice raises as I feel that familiar feeling in my stomach.

"The Oni marked you, remember? They wouldn't have done that if you were the bad guy. We all do things that we are ashamed of." She looks down at her hands for a second. "But if you feel remorseful then you know you're not a bad person. And just by you saying that I know you're not."

I look away from her as I take in what she said. Maybe I will be okay. Maybe Peter was wrong. If Allison trusts me then hopefully everyone else will too.

A smile overtakes my lips. "Thank you. You don't know how much I needed to hear that." I breathe a sigh of relief.

She suddenly wraps me in a hug. "You know I'm always here if you wanna talk."

"Always." I smile as I slowly put my arms around her. It was an amazing feeling to have a true friend like her. I never really had friends back in South America besides Cora. There was never a time for that. There is just something special about knowing that someone, outside of my family, has my back no matter what.

It's not long before Lydia arrives. I'm not gonna lie, I was nervous when she walked through the door and looked me up and down. She's a banshee after all maybe she can sense evil in me no one else can. But she just smiled and treated me like usual. Which utterly surprised me.

Maybe what I did isn't as big of a deal as I thought it was. Maybe I am just playing it up in my head or rather Peter was.

Just as I am about to calm down completely, I hear footsteps approaching the door and a knocking sound.

Scott

Allison goes to answer the door and sure enough, Scott's scent hits my nose along with the Twins'. I stay hidden in the room as I hear Allison leading them to where Lydia and I are.

"My father said all the Katashi evidence is being moved to a federal lockup by armored car tonight. Probably within the next few hours." I hear their footsteps getting closer. Lydia stands in the doorway as Allison joins her.

"We're going to rob an armored car?" Ethan asks in disbelief.

"Well..." Lydia pauses. "We're gonna try."

There's another pause before Scott speaks up. "There's someone else here." He says probably hearing my heartbeat. But by his tone, he already knows it's me.

I step into the doorway to see all eyes looking at me but my eyes only focus on one pair. His puppy eyes stare into mine in the hallway. It feels like no one else is there as I stare at him. Everything rushes back: Everything from me attacking Kira to the look on Scott's face as he walks away from me.

"Hi," I say quietly, still staring into Scott's eyes but he gives nothing away. No clues as to how he's feeling or what's running through his mind.

"Why is she here?" Aiden angrily asks taking a step forward. "Didn't she team up with the Nogitsune?" I break eye contact with Scott and look at the floor instead.

"Stop," Scott's voice sounds. I look up to see him with his hand in front of Aiden.

"Why are you defending her?" He protests. "You saw first hand what she did." Scott doesn't reply but instead looks me in the eyes again. Aiden takes his silence as agreement and he flicks his claws out. Scott reacts immediately grabbing Aiden by his shirt and pushing him against the wall, his eyes glowing red. Ethan is quick to grab onto Scott's arm while I'm stuck dumbfounded by what he did.

Scott stood up for me. He protected me. After everything I did...

I can't stop the small smile that overtakes my lips even in this tense situation. "Okay guys, time out." Lydia grabs their attention by clapping her hands. "We only have a few hours left."

I observe the situation in the room from my spot in the corner. The tension in the air seems to have dropped but it doesn't stop Aiden from giving me a glare ever now and then when Scott isn't looking. Ethan seems to be pretty passive. He doesn't seem like he wants to kill me but I don't think he really trusts me either. Scott on the other hand won't make eye contact with me after what happened.

"This is a really bad plan," Scott confesses as I tune back into the conversation.

"It's not that bad." Lydia defends, shrugging her shoulders.

"It's not that good." Ethan counters with his arms crossed.

"None of us knows the route they're going to take. If Allison can get one of her dad's GPS trackers on the armored car, then we can follow it."

"So when it gets here-" Allison continues from Lydia, pointing at a marked point on the map on top of the desk.

"-We attack them. " Aiden states causing Lydia to turn around and glare at him. I roll my eyes at his blunt attack-first-ask-questions-later attitude.

"No." She deadpans. "Your bikes will be in the middle of the road, looking like you guys got into an accident." She turns away from him. "And when the driver gets out to help-"

"We attack him," Aiden says again, feeling more confident about it this time.

"No." Both Allison and Lydia exclaim.

"We aren't attacking anyone," I speak up for the first time, getting annoyed at his attitude.

"Ironic coming from you." He counters back, staring into my eyes.

"You'll distract him-" Lydia continues ignoring Aiden's comment. I clench my fists as I look away from him and back to Lydia. "-and Scott will break open the back door." Scott looks around the room uneasily.

"I hope." He says slowly, furrowing his brows. Lydia turns her attention away from him with a semi-annoyed look on her face.

"And you'll get Katashi's finger."

"It's not his actual finger, is it?" Ethan asks apprehensively. Scott then turns to Lydia with a worried look. Lydia looks fully annoyed now as she stares off into the distance.

"You are so out of our league."

"Why aren't we just going to Stilinski for help?" Ethan asks.

"Because if he gets caught, then it's the Sheriff tampering with federal evidence," Scott answers, causing Ethan to raise his eyebrows in agreement.

"Guys this is going to work. We can do this." Allison reassures us probably sensing the negativity in the room. "We're losing Stiles and..." She trails off glancing at me, causing me to shift uncomfortably. "My dad's in jail for murder along with Derek" She pauses. "We need to do this."

After doing some final planning and refinements we are free to go and prepare for tonight. I hang back waiting for Aiden and Ethan to leave first before making my way to the door. I give a final smile and wave to Allison and Lydia before stopping outside the door. I wait a few moments for the elevator doors to close before going to wait by it. Standing in an elevator with both Scott and the Twins did not sound like a good time right now.

The elevator eventually starts to come back up as the numbers rise. I play with my fingers, staring at the floor when suddenly I hear a ding and the doors open. My eyes catch a familiar pair of shoes in my peripheral. I look up to be met with Scott's brown eyes.

"I-umm..." I stutter not knowing what to say. "I can wait here." I eventually get out. The doors begin to close but he stops it with his hands.

"Come on." He says motioning with his head. "I waited for you." I hesitantly take a step forward and join him in the elevator. He releases his hand and the doors close.

"Thanks," I say simply, nodding my head in his direction. We stand there in awkward silence after that. Neither one of us knowing what to say next. Scott rubs his hands together as the silence seems to grow. Eventually, he breaks it.

"Can we talk?"

I sit down on the edge of his bed, rubbing my hands nervously on my legs. Scott takes a seat next to me.

"You cold?" He asks, brushing his leg against mine.

"No, no... I'm just..." I trail off staring at the wall. "So..." I begin.

"So..." He says as well also not knowing where to start.

"I-" We say at the same time. "No, you." We say again causing me to let out a small laugh.

"You first." He says. I glance at him before looking back down at my hands.

"Okay, well..." I try to find the right words to say. "First of all, I don't know what happened." I begin. "When Stiles grabbed my arm, I just felt all this darkness and anger. The pain in my head was unbearable until I decided to let it all in. Once I accepted the darkness, there was no more pain. I felt... powerful." I run my hand through my hair, inwardly groaning at how that makes me seem; like a power-hungry Peter. "But as soon as I realized what I was doing... I stopped. I didn't want to hurt her. I don't want to hurt anybody."

"I know you don't." I can see Scott turn to me from my peripheral. "I know you're a good person." I turn to look him in the eyes. His eyes show warmth as opposed to the coldness I was half-expecting. "And I promise we'll figure out whatever is going on with you. I won't stop until we have answers."

I smile back at him feeling my heart racing. "You still care about me?"

He takes his hand and tucks a piece of hair behind my ear. "Of course, I still care about you." He rests his hand on my cheek. "You're the Alpha's girl." He jokes smiling back at me. I return his smile feeling a warmth overtaking my cheeks. My stomach swarms with butterflies until I remember something.

"Then why did you walk away." He furrows his brows. "When I woke up. I saw you standing by the door. You saw me, then you just walked away... I thought that you hated me." I confess looking back at my hands.

His hand goes under my chin and forces me to look at him. "I don't hate you. I never could." He interlaces his hand with mine. "I'd be lying if I said you didn't scare me though. And I left because I couldn't bear to see you in pain. I knew you needed time alone to think-"

"I needed you," I interjected. "I thought I had no one."

"I'm sorry." He confesses.

"Me too."

He leans in closer to me until our lips finally meet. At that moment all the loneliness and pain I've felt disappears. Nothing else mattered.

I'll be okay. We'll be okay.

We break apart from the kiss and stare into each other's eyes. He smiles at me, it's the kind of smile that reaches his eyes. The kind I love the most.  He wipes away a stray tear on my cheek I never realized had fallen before connecting our lips again. His arm snakes around my waist pulling me closer.

I smile into the kiss as his words ring through my head:

'Of course, I still care about you...I don't hate you. I never could'

He still cared about me. Even after what I did, he didn't see me as a monster. He was willing to give me another chance, a shot at redemption. He understood what I was going through and wanted to help me instead of abandoning me like a lost cause.

After the kiss, we pull apart to lie down on the bed. We talk about anything and everything. It was the kind of conversation where you can't remember what you talked about but you remember how happy you were and how they made you feel.

I feel carefree at this moment, with his hand in mine as he avidly went on about some topic I won't remember. I feel safe in his arms. Safe from the world. It feels wrong to be happy at a time like this. To feel carefree in the midst of so much pain and suffering, but it feels right. To finally have a moment of normality.

I decide to open up to him about my childhood before the fire which was something I never told anyone so it surprised me when stories of my past kept flowing out.

"-and then Cora and I used to change places when we were little."

"You and Cora?" He asks in amusement.

"We actually looked identical back then. When we were really young, like kindergarten to early elementary school. We were in different classes back then and we used to switch places for fun to see if anyone noticed. No one ever did." I smile at the memory. "Except for my family but I guess werewolves would be able to distinguish scents."

"So you were a bit of a trouble-maker back then?"

"We only switched places... and maybe stole a few juice boxes. But I blame Peter." I defend. "He was a bad influence."

"Were you ever caught?"

"When we got older, I think we were in second or third grade, we tried to switch places again..."

"What happened?"

"We realized we were actually fraternal and not identical twins." He lets out a laugh. The sound brings a smile to my lips. I don't get to hear his laugh as often anymore.

"But enough about me" I turn my head to look into his eyes. "What about you? How about your childhood?"

"I was a pretty clumsy kid." He points to his left cheek. "I got this scar from falling into a glass coffee table after trying to catch a lacrosse ball from Stiles." I laugh as I run my finger over the scar.

"Why am I not surprised it has to do with Stiles." We stay like that for a few moments before a text from Lydia takes us back into reality.

"It's time," Scott says getting up from the bed. I get up as well, stretching my arms over my head. I almost forgot about everything that was happening. The armored car heist, the Nogitsune... me. "You ready?"

"Yeah, I guess so." He grabs my hand, giving it a reassuring squeeze before walking downstairs to the front door. He grabs his helmet off the table.

"Oh, my helmet," I remember, letting go of his hand. "I left it upstairs." I quickly turn around and go back up the stairs to his room. I pick my helmet off the desk and turn around to leave. As I reach the stairs, however, I hear something from the living room.

"What are you doing here?"

"I want to help." Kira's voice replies, causing me to almost drop my helmet down the stairs.

"I'm not sure it's such a good idea."

"Because of my mother?"

"No. I know that's not your fault."

"Yeah, but it still feels like it is." She replies. I decide to walk down the steps slowly. I know Scott can hear me, but I don't think Kira can. "And if I can help, shouldn't I?"

"People who help us usually end up getting hurt. Badly."

I debate with myself when I should walk out or if I even should at this point. A part of me feels guilty for not even calling Kira to ask her how she was after what happened. I was too afraid of what she would say. If she would hate me. I run my free hand through my hair. She must really think I'm a monster now. Not even saying sorry or checking up on her.

"Okay, but I've been practicing."  Kira continues.

"Practicing what?"

"I've been picking this up really fast. Like crazy fast." I hear movement from Kira like she is grabbing something from her bag. I suddenly hear Scott gasp and move in surprise while something metal is being unsheathed. I move forward to get a better look and see Kira holding a katana in the air.

"Are you sure about that?" Scott asks before his eyes move to me standing by the stairway.

"Sorry..." She replies but trails off as she follows Scott's gaze to me. She jumps back causing Scott to duck as the katana comes past his head. "Sorry." She apologizes again before looking back at me.

"Kira..."

"Nina. Hi...umm." She looks from me to Scott, with big eyes, and then back to me again.

"Look, about what happened." I take a step forward. "I'm sorry. I don't know why or how he was able to do that. But I didn't mean it. I swear. We're trying to figure out what happened to me... but that wasn't me. The Nogistune somehow was able to influence me." I ramble on. Kira looks to Scott again and he nods his head.

Kira slowly brings her katana to her side as if it was raised at me, which I wouldn't be surprised if it was. "I forgive you." She says softly.

I let out a breath and close the gap between us, giving her a hug. "I'm really sorry." I break from the hug to look at her head. "Are you okay?"

"I'm fine. All healed now." She confesses with a slight smile, but it still looks awkward and feigned. Nevertheless, I smile and take a step back.

It's going to take time to gain her trust back.

"So." I try to break the slight tension brewing in the air. "About that..."I motion towards the katana in Kira's hand.

"Oh, right." She remembers. "Stand back." She says as she brings the katana up again. I do as she says and suddenly she starts swirling the katana in the air like a master. Flipping it around her hand while the blade slashes in the air. If I didn't know better, I would have thought she had been doing it for years.  When she finishes she stands confidently with the katana at her side and a smile on her face.

"Okay. You're coming." Scott voices my thoughts.

"You're up," Allison says to a timid-looking Kira. We are currently hiding behind a few parked cars with the armored van a few feet ahead of us. The driver of the van just went into his side of the vehicle. Kira looks at the device in her hand before running off to the back of the van and placing the device underneath it. The sound of footsteps to the right causes her to hide behind the van as the second officer approaches.

"Okay, let's get out of here." A familiar voice sounds. Parrish. He suddenly freezes when he opens the door causing me to furrow my brows. He draws his gun and begins to walk cautiously around the van.

"What's happening?" I whisper.

"I don't know, but we have to do something," Scott replies, preparing to get up.

"Don't hurt him," I say, causing Allison and Scott to look at me. "I know him. He's nice." Suddenly the back doors to the van open and a very strong man jumps out and knocks Parrish out. "I spoke too soon." I wince.

"Who the hell is that?" Scott says, actually addressing the elephant in the room.

"Kincaid."

We quickly move towards him while he has his back towards us. Allison raises her bow, while I flick my claws out. Kincaid turns around to us holding the metal finger in his hand.

"We need that finger," Scott says. The man looks from Scott to me and then to Allison, studying us before scoffing and shaking his head.

"Why should I give it to you?" He asks in a deep voice, with amusement lacing it.

"There's a briefcase in there-" Allison motions towards the van with her head. "-with a hundred and fifty thousand in it."

"The scroll inside this prosthetic finger is worth three million."

"Give me the finger," Scott says confidently. I wince at his choice of words. "You know what I mean."

Suddenly Kira jumps from the top of the van onto Kincaid's back. How did she even get up there without us knowing?

Kincaid looks more annoyed than anything else as he easily tosses Kira to the ground. He then looks up at us, his blue eyes glowing and fangs protruding. "I guess negotiations are over."

And with that... all hell breaks loose.

Claws and arrows go flying around us as we try to take down this big werewolf. But we aren't exactly winning this fight. Kincaid looks down at the arrow sticking out of his chest before pulling it out, still looking fairly annoyed with the whole situation.

Kira tries her luck next running at him with her bare hands. She tries to land a punch but easily fails. He grabs her by the neck and tosses her into the brick wall, knocking her out cold. He then goes for Allison and pushes her into the wall as well.

I get back up to my feet and charge for him again. This time I try to go for his legs. I lean down and slash his legs causing him to let out a little growl. I swiftly dodge his next attack and slash his arm. But that's where my lucky streak ends as he manages to grab my arm, twisting it behind my back before pushing me into the wall face first. My nose throbs as I feel warm liquid run down onto my lips.

Scott tries again, but all his attacks do nothing to bring down the beast of a man. Kincaid gets a hold of both of Scott's arms and holds them down while he headbutts him. Scott stumbles back from the blow, but recovers. He squares up and takes his next punch, which Kincaid easily blocks. The latter of which uses this opportunity to punch Scott in the stomach before kicking him to the ground.

Scott gasps for breath as he lay on the ground. Kincaid bends down to his level. "You have the eyes of an Alpha. But where's the strength?"

"Up here."

I turn my attention to the platform to see the twins fully transformed and ready. They jump down and begin their attack. Lydia quietly joins us and helps Allison up, while Kira still lays unconscious by the wall.

I turn my attention to Scott lying on the floor. I wipe the blood from my nose and make my way to him trying to avoid the Twins' attacks.

"Hey, are you okay?" I ask reaching down to give him a hand up. He nods back in return, wincing as he stands up.

"But he's not." I turn my attention back to the twins to see them showing no mercy to Kincaid. He gets pushed to the ground from the platform as the twins get ready to go for the final attack. "Stop. Ethan, Aiden..." Scott tries to get out.

"Stop!" Lydia finishes getting their attention.

"You want him to come after us?" Aiden asks motioning to Kincaid lying on his knees.

"Scott, we've seen guys like this. Trust us. He's dangerous." Ethan reasons. A small part of me agrees with him. Sometimes the only way to get rid of a threat is to kill them... But then again he may not come after us and then it's an innocent life lost.

"So are we." Scott defends. Kira, now conscious stands up and joins us. "And he looks smart enough to remember that." Scott reaches over and grabs the prosthetic finger from Kincaid's pocket. He removes the scroll and looks at all of us. "We're here to save a life. Not end one."

And with that, he drops the silver finger onto the ground.
