Chapter 19: 18| Little Debbie's

After rushing in late due to classic Los Angeles traffic I settle in the back of the class as my usual desk is being used for someone who is retaking the triangle test from last week.

Not even really paying attention to my surroundings I turn to my side to see Dylan with his head laying on his world history textbook.

Harper must've gotten to him with her depressing post break up voodoo that has been dragging me over to her house pretty often. He's dressed in his blue football hoodie that is covering his curls with black joggers. Completing the, "it's not my day look," his feet are comfortable in white socks and nike slides.

He's not even showing off how smart he is by doing the parallelogram worksheet and instead is shamelessly scrolling through his phone.

While Destiny's comment about him looking like Vince still rots in my brain, Dylan still has a bit of attractiveness to him. An attractiveness that's different from Ziyah's cuteness but very similar to Chase's burning good looks.

When Dylan catches my stare he continues to scroll, but moves his phone so I can have more of a view of his somber face.

"Are you okay?" I mouth so I'm not competing with My teacher's  lecture about using colors to find the transversal.

Scaring me just a little he turns his whole body in his seat to face me. His eyebrows furrow and he squints in disgust making me scoot closer to the wall on the other side of me.

"What the fuck how could I be gay? I have the most bodies of the football team," he hisses and raises his head from his arm.

Surprised that he is serious I do a once over of his pissed expression while he shakes his head with a clear furious smile. From this day on I will never mouth anything again, especially to a guy who's really in tune with his masculinity.

"I asked are you okay." My spaced out words slowly make him raise his eyes from his white socks and calm down his dramatic eyebrows.

"Nah me and my girl broke up." Yesterday I would've been ecstatic at this news. But now the only thought crossing my mind is, I wonder why. The right response would be I'm sorry, but he lost his right to that when he misinterpreted my words.

"Passion twists?"

"What she took those out a week ago."

"Oh," I murmur.

Dylan goes back to sulking and scrolling through his phone not filling me in on the breakup which I've been thinking about possible outcomes. Really there is only one outcome- Dylan cheating on her, but I've thought of several situations on how she found out. All of which end in him getting slapped across his depressed face while the girl he's with tries to cover her breast in shock.

Destiny's eyes meet mine from across the room and knock out my many Dylan inspired thoughts. She gives me that knowing look with a raise of her eyebrows, and a smile across her honey brown cheeks directed at Dylan who is oblivious as he scrolls through snapchat.

For the rest of the period his sulking continues distracting me from doing work. Instead of paying attention I take advantage of sitting in the back and read my book on writing a good movie for dummies.

Second period goes by just as fast accept Dylan sits across the room so his sulking doesn't effect me. The  nutrition first rings I hurry over to my locker and grab my apple slices quickly so no dirt patches appear on my knees for bending down to long.

I'm about to make my way down the hall to the girl's bathroom to fix my half ponytail, but the sight of Chase and Laia flirting against someone's locker doesn't stop my pace, but instead makes me go faster.

Since seeing them at the steps it occurred to me that they're actually real people. Of course I knew this before, but until Saturday I thought there was this untouchable bubble surrounding them. That bubble was clearly broken when Chase mentioned talking to my mom.

After fixing my ponytail and checking my teeth I reclaim my spot right beside my locker where now there is no sign of Chase and Laia.

"Hey," a familiar chill tone says.

Ziyah leans against the two lockers next to mine with his usual smirk and almond hazel eyes that shine through his thin frames. The last time we talked or texted he said he liked me, so this conversation should probably be different compared to our other ones.

We different talk yesterday, but I don't think that's necessarily a bad thing, but I'm not the expert on texting when my only real messages are to my family.

"Hey how was your Sunday?"

"Chill, how about you?"

"Sublime." I just watched old movies with Dani, but in one of those movies a sophisticated woman described herself as sublime, and I just thought that it was such a beautiful word.

"Sublime?"

"Yes sublime."

"What made it sublime?" He casually looks me over probably looking at my bag of apples, but stops when I notice and runs his hands through his dreads.

"I don't know it was just sublime, anyway I was thinking since I told you my middle name you should tell me yours."

"Should I?" He raises his eyebrows and I can't help, but mimic Vince's goofy smile even though I really do want to eat my apples.

"Yes."

"Ziyah Elijah Daniels." As he says his name oddly the only thing I can think about is how Daya Daniels sounds and the ring to it is way better than Daya Malik.

"Don't laugh," he adds.

"Why would I laugh it's nice-" my mouth goes into an o shape as I piece together his initials "Aww your initials are ZED that's not so bad, it's it's," I search for a word. "It's cute."

"Nah Daya True Price is cute." I shake off the compliment and stare at my shoes only for Ziyah to get close enough to me that his clean Adidas comes into my vision.

My nostrils welcomes his familiar cinnamon scent that hasn't changed since Friday, and he lifts my chin up with just his index finger. "It's cute," he whispers and presses his lips against mine.

His cinnamon scent is more intense as it's coming from his lips that are still passionately attached to mine. When it's time for our lips to depart I kiss him back which I didn't know I was capable of especially with all of the giddiness going through me.

Our lips slowly seperate once I see the couple I told to get a room smiling behind Ziyah as they walk hand in hand.

Well there you go Sofia I had my first kiss, and I really hope eating green apples beforehand didn't give my mouth a weird taste.

Honestly it wasn't the best thing ever to happen to me and people definitely build it up, but that doesn't mean I didn't enjoy the feeling rushing through my body.

Now this part of looking into each other's eyes, him probably thinking I'm a weirdo because I'm still holding my bag of apples, and me kind of wishing he could touch me more, I could live without. The bell rings and the halls that were pretty much being occupied by just us start becoming full again.

"Umm I'll see you in 5th period," I stammer as all of the giddiness I had when we were kissing turns into nervousness. When were kissing, wow I never thought that sentence would come into my mind without being asleep and dreaming.

He gives me a little wave and I head the opposite direction of my third period still assessing that whole situation as I now have a little debbies taste on my lips.

When I get back in the right direction and pass my locker Vicki and Jada are the first people I see standing outside of first hall with big smiles on their faces directed right at me.

Usually they're in the patio during nutrition, but clearly they were standing right there watching my whole interaction between Ziyah. Ziyah must've really captivated me because it's hard to miss Jada's bright pink two piece, and Vicki's overall glow.

"So you're kissing the pothead now?" Vicki says with her glossed lips in a sneaky smirk.

There really isn't an answer so Jada adds on for me. "Don't even pretend we saw that whole thing. Heck I was waiting for both of your glasses to clink," Jada doublers over in laughter.

"Did you like him?" Vicki's eyes narrow on me as students pass us to go to class.

God I really hope Vince never cheats on her, because he would have no way to lie about it.

"I-,"

Jada comes to my rescue again and answers for me. "Of course she likes him homegirl couldn't stop smiling."

With one minute before the second bell a dark shadow comes over us and Vince wraps his arm around Vicki and looks between the three of us.

"Who can't stop smiling?" He asks and I give Vicki a pleading look.

She rolls her eyes a little and sucks up the truth by saying, "No one." From there I give her a huge smile and run off to class before the bell rings.
