Chapter 11: Eleven: If he doesn’t work well, he’d just fire him!

“Ay yo, it’s a pigeon egg!” Before Ji XiaoYu could rush over and hide the little white egg, Wu YaoQiang had already seen it clearly with the light of his flashlight, “Ji LaoDi, what’re you doing putting this thing on the bed? Incubating an egg? Hahaha! Be careful not to crush the egg and get yolk on your butt, hahahaha!”

Ji XiaoYu: “……..”

I have to admit that to a certain extent, Qiang Zi Ge is speaking the truth.

After such a fuss, his previous sleepiness was driven away. Looking at the time displayed on his phone, 04:39, Ji XiaoYu felt a little heartache, but he had no other choice but to close his eyes for a while longer.

After dawn came, Ji XiaoYu found that Li DeFa’s attitude toward himself was different than previously. He wore a bad expression and assigned him some of the previous work that didn’t belong to him, as if he were a mother who turned hostile and became a step-mother. Zhang QiaoYan and Wu YaoQiang found this strange and privately asked him when he offended Boss Li.

Ji XiaoYu knew that Boss Li was just venting his dissatisfaction over the resignation. This was what he has already expected in advance, so he neither complained nor pushed back. He did what he had to do and the quality of his work wasn’t compromised. However, he didn’t tell Zhang QiaoYan and Wu YaoQiang the reason. There was no use in saying it now, better just to wait for the resignation to be settled.

A week flashed by and, on September 30th, Ji XiaoYu had worked in the little restaurant for three months. Li DeFa never expressed his position on his resignation directly, so he planned to have a direct showdown over it this evening.

After returning to the little restaurant from delivery at noon, Ji XiaoYu gave the money and bill to Zhang QiaoYan. Wu YaoQiang heard the sound and poked his head out from the kitchen window and, reaching out, dropped a little object from his palm.

With his quick eyes, Ji XiaoYu reached out and caught it firmly. He took a look. It was an egg a bit smaller than the normal size.

Wu YaoQiang laughed and said, “Ji LaoDi, do you think that this little egg is as beautiful as the egg you’re incubating? You can eat it to replenish your body, saving yourself the effort.”

Ji XiaoYu’s scalp went numb. He raised his hand and threw the small egg back, angrily saying, “To hell with replenishment, I don’t need it, you can keep it to eat yourself!”

In the corner of the small restaurant, a sharp-faced man who heard this lifted up his head to look. Something flashed in his eyes and he quickly bowed his head and continued to nonchalantly eat.

Zhang QiaoYan giggled as she rang up the order, “Xiao Yu, you’re not a hen, what egg incubation?”

Ji XiaoYu suddenly blushed, defending himself, “N-no, it’s not, don’t you listen to Qiang Zi Ge’s nonsense…..”

“You little bastards, don’t be so noisy during working hours, making me do all the work, or I’ll deduct a day’s pay!” Li DeFa ran out of the kitchen, waving a spatula and scolding.

The three staff members quickly shut up, making themselves busy.

After finishing work in the evening, Li DeFa was about to leave without saying anything, so Ji XiaoYu hurriedly stopped him from behind and said, “Uncle Li! You didn’t forget what I said to you the other day?”

Li DeFa turned and showed an ugly face, looking as if he wanted to get angry. In front of Zhang QiaoYan and Wu YaoQiang though, it wasn’t good for his reputation to lash out so he could only ask, “You haven’t thought it over again yet?”

Ji XiaoYu said, “I already thought about it out a long time ago. As I said that day, I hope you can understand.”

With a black face, Li DeFa said, “What if I can’t understand?”

Zhang QiaoYan and Wu YaoQiang were still cleaning up the store. When they heard the conversation between the two of them was starting to sound like a fight, their hands paused and they looked over in confusion.

Ji XiaoYu lowered his voice slightly, “Uncle Li, this was my first job after I came to Ning City. I’m very grateful to you for giving me this opportunity. For the past three months, I told myself to do my job well. I did everything I had to do. Now, for a certain reason, I have to leave the little restaurant. I also informed you a week in advance and didn’t violate our original agreement. So I hope you won’t make things awkward for me and that you’ll give me the money I deserve.”

He had always smiled, displaying a harmless appearance of laughter to both men and beasts. But once he got serious, he emitted a kind of invisible aura, which sent a shock to Li DeFa’s heart. He couldn’t speak the words he originally wanted to in threatening to deduct his salary, so he could only take out his wallet moodily to pay as he murmured, “Okay, okay, okay, here you are, don’t go out and then come back later asking for Uncle Li again!”

Ji XiaoYu took the stack of pink bills and returned the old phone that he borrowed from Boss Old Li. Then he said with a clever tongue, “Thank you, Uncle Li, I wish you prosperous business in the future and that your wealth will flourish in this district.” Boss Li had agreed to it and he hadn’t wanted to have a toxic falling-out with him unless he absolutely needed to.

Li DeFa couldn’t keep from grinning and scolding, “This little bastard has a sweet mouth. I wish you good luck!”

Seeing that the atmosphere had eased, Zhang QiaoYan opened her mouth and asked, “Xiao Yu, why did you resign?”

Wu YaoQiang also said, “It’s too sudden. Ji LaoDi, I’ve never heard you mention this before.”

“Yeah, I’m sorry. I didn’t tell you two in advance, because I wasn’t certain at that time.” Ji XiaoYu smiled apologetically. “QiaoYan Jie, Qiang Zi Ge thank you for your care of this little brother during this time, I’ll remember you both.”

Zhang QiaoYan sighed and said, “Xiao Yu, I’m still reluctant to let you go, but you’re so smart and capable. Jiejie believes that you’ll be able to do whatever you want in the future.”

Wu YaoQiang echoed her sincerely, “Yes, Ji LaoDi, I’m sure you can do it, jiayou!”

This was so sudden. Zhang QiaoYan and Wu YaoQiang were surprised, but it wasn’t too shocking. They had always thought that Ji XiaoYu wasn’t like an ordinary person and that he wouldn’t stay in a little restaurant as a little delivery guy.

“Thank you, QiaoYan Jie and Qiang Zi Ge, I’ll work hard!” Ji XiaoYu’s heart was suddenly filled with warmth. “To tell you a secret, the new job I found is to be a security guard at HongSheng Building. I’m sure we’ll have another chance to meet again.”

Meanwhile, Cheng YuTang had just finished his day’s work in his own office. He leaned back in his chair and removed his glasses. He wearily pinched his forehead a bit, then got up and packed up his desk to leave work.

When he picked up a pen, he couldn’t help but recall that lunchtime, remembering that certain someone with pale, soft-looking lips, holding the pen cap between his lips and teeth for a long time. Who knew how much bacteria and saliva had been left.

Then he recalled that Christmas Eve, when even though he was with that little guy for most of the night, he hadn’t touched those lips out of some sort of thought of cleanliness. Now, in retrospect, he didn’t know if he felt lucky or sorry.

In Chen YuTang’s heart, there was a strange feeling that couldn’t be described. He wanted to throw the pen into the wastebasket under the table, but somehow he couldn’t throw it so he threw it in the drawer and closed it with a “pa”.

Out of sight, out of mind.

There was one thing left to do and he didn’t want it to go through Zhao BaiXin’s hands, so he could only handle it himself.

Cheng YuTang went through the HongSheng management address book. When he found the name, he dialed the internal number on his landline. Two seconds later, the call connected.

“Who is it?”

“Is this Captain Yang of the Security Department? I’m Cheng YuTang.”

“Cheng Zong, hello, I am Yang YiPeng, Security Department. What are your instructions, sir?”

The other side’s voice was sonorous, concise, and powerful, with a well-trained, tough tone.

“In a few days, someone will come to your security office to report as a security guard. You will inform the personnel department in advance and prepare the labor contract first. When he comes, you’ll go through the entry formalities with him directly.”

“Yes, what salary package should be specified?”

“The starting salary is 4500 yuan a month, including room and board, five social insurance and one gold.
