Chapter 16: 2.06 Agender

LGBT+ 101Words: 1542

The definition of agender is found in my 2.01 entry, if you don't know what it is.  It's basically the lack of gender. This gender identity is not even on the spectrum that has the two binary ends, because it's outside. An agender person literally has no gender. Or they have one, and they choose not to pick a label for their identity.

You don't really need examples for this one, it's pretty easy to understand.

But there are a few things you need to understand.

1. They still have genitals.

Yeah, some people may not have a gender, but that doesn't mean they don't have genitals. NEVER ask what they are, but they don't define that person.

2. They usually dress gender-neutrally.

Some things they wear might be basic, simple, or crazy and wild, or maybe they look feminine or masculine, but their clothes have nothing to do with their gender. They can express their gender however they want. However, if you're confused about their identity, ASK FOR PRONOUNS. Don't assume based on their expression.

3. Don't get them confused with gender fluid.

If you're gender fluid, your identity is all over the spectrum. It's constantly in between female and male. If you're agender, it's not on the spectrum at all. Make sense?

4. It's a personal decision to transition.

You know how transgendert people transition with surgery to match their gender? Well if you don't have a gender, then you can't really assume whether that person will transition or not.

I appreciate the comments and votes :) thanks! Next Sunday's entry is all about two-spirit.
