Chapter 5: Chapter 5 Don't Slow Down

“Sorry.” I apologized feeling somewhat guilt-ridden but my heart was pumping wildly in my chest.

Does he know?

“I think I know what you’re hiding from me.” Lucifer says and my eyes enlarge.

Valentine Winters P.O.V

“Hiding from you?” I asked nervously.

“I’m not hiding anything.” I fibbed.

“It’s obvious, Valentine. You’re having your gastric, aren’t you? I remembered your stomach was hard due to it before.” He said though his voice kept going lower near the end of his sentence as he looked down for a second or two, guiltiness screening on his face as he looked back at me.

“Yes! It’s gastric.” I lied.

“You do know that it’s okay right?” He suddenly expressed.

“Huh?” I ask muddled.

“You’re not eating well, I know you’ve put on a bit of weight but it’s alright, you don’t need to go on a diet for it.” He exclaimed.

I did not know why I felt infuriated towards that. My lips went into a thin straight line as I just gaped at him expressionlessly.

“You okay?” He questioned.

“Yes.” I smiled though I was still aggravated at his declaration.

“Aren’t you supposed to help Adamone on the elements?” I asked.

“Yea.” He sighed scratching the back of his head.

“Can I join?” I requested.

He looked at me for a good moment. Placing his right palm over my cheeks to caress my cheekbones, he muttered with a small smile “Of course.”

Adamone Levi P.O.V

I sat down on one of the many seats in the pack house meeting room.

Alone.

What happened in the woods. I was not in control. I’ve always been a guy who would not fret about anything, just taking everything easy but in Evelyn’s circumstance, I was horrified.

I know that I am assured to reject her, but I did not ever want her to perish. My heart ached at the thought of it.

I fiddled with my fingers, taking my phone out my pocket to scan through few notifications. The door opened and revealed Lucifer as he walked in with Valentine alongside him.

“There are 22 elements.” Lucifer started.

“Turmeric, Ginseng, Bilberry, Gingko, Gotu Kola, Thyme, Sage, Marjoram, Oregano, Jamaican Allspice, Cinnamon, Cloves, Basil, Cat’s Claw, Celery, Ginger, Licorice Root, Mistletoe, Parsley, Rosemary and Salvia.” He finished.

“That’s only 21 elements.” I exclaimed typing those down into my phone notes.

“What is the 22nd element?” Valentine questioned Lucifer.

“Evelyn herself.” Lucifer answered.

“Evelyn would be following you to get those elements.” Lucifer told.

“What? No.” I said.

“She’s obviously your mate, why not?” Lucifer suddenly blurted out.

I stood there speechless.

How did he know?

Valentine’s eyes went wide as she looked at Lucifer.

“She’s not my mate.” I lied.

“It’s no time for games, Adam.” Lucifer told sternly.

“She is the 22nd element but-.” He stopped.

“But what?” I asked confused.

“She will start losing memories if you are late, eventually before her death she will suffer from Alzheimer and there is no saving her then.” Lucifer responded.

My wolf whimpered at the thought of her dying. I don’t even think that I could handle being in a world without her either.

I nodded my head in understanding to his words ready to leave the pack house meeting room.

“One more thing.” Lucifer voiced.

I looked over at him to continue.

“You need a drop of a werewolf newborn baby’s blood.” He told.

“Which rank?” I asked.

“The superlative one that speed the healing process.” He answered.

“Only alpha babies are capable of superior healing processes; how would I be able to find one? Even if I did, alphas are overprotective over their pups.” I said truthfully.

He sighed.

“I can only state down the elements, I don’t know how to help you in that aspect.” He alleged.

Valentine Winters P.O.V

“How did you know that Adamone was Evelyn’s mate?” I asked.

“I didn’t, just figured.” Lucifer answered.

“What did you mean by a newborn werewolf baby’s blood?” I quizzed.

“I read it. A newborn wolf pup especially an Alphas has the best healing abilities, it’s the most significant element to save Evelyn.” He suited.

“Why? Know one?” He probed.

I shook my head.

He kissed my left cheek.

“You however need to eat something, what do you want? McDonalds?” He suggested.

McDonalds somehow did not sound like a depraved idea. I smiled at him, nodding my head. He took my hand in his and drove me to McDonalds, parking the car. There were a mass of cars lining up at the drive-thru.

“Just wait in the car, I’ll go get the food. I’m pretty hungry too. I don’t do well with strangers or crowds, so let’s just eat in the house after I get it alright?” Lucifer proposed.

“Sure.” I shrugged. Well, it didn’t sound like it was a bad plan.

He got out of his car before ducking with the door opened.

“Right. So, what do you want?” He inquired.

“A Spicy Chicken McDeluxe with hot tea.” I replied.

He nodded before closing the door shut.

I exhaled.

Increasing the volume on the radio, I waited for his reappearance. In some way, I felt like somebody was observing me.

I looked around to see no one. It was night, so it was dusky and there were not plentiful cars at the parking zone either.

I locked the car for better safety and fortification. After around 15 minutes, I saw Lucifer’s figure walking towards the car and I instantly relaxed from my tensed stance.

I unlocked the car so that he was able to open the door and passed me the bags. “Let’s go.” He said and reversed before driving again back to the pack house.

“You okay?” Lucifer asked.

I just nodded my head.

“You sure?” He asked placing his right hand onto my thighs for reassurance.

I nodded again.

Abruptly, a car was coming onto our way and Lucifer instantaneously took his hand away from my lap. He cursed trying to evade the car but there were cars approaching from the other routes as well.

I started grabbing hold onto the dashboard, pushing so I wouldn’t hit my head on it. Another car was thumping us from the back.

“Hunters.” Lucifer said speeding.

He tried to dodge.

But, we couldn’t.

He took off his seatbelt, covering my frame as the car was about to hit the tree and flip. My heart rate started to accelerate.

It all happened so fast.

The car knocked the tree, making the front windshield to crack and overturned, resulting the other windshields to break and the glasses to pierce our skins.

I screamed in horror while Lucifer held me tighter. He transformed into his huge black wolf to give me a better protection as I whimpered in fear for his life.

As the car stopped flipping, Lucifer tore out the top with his teeth and threw it away. He had patches of blood on his fur.

He pulled me out of the car as I hissed in pain from the glasses that pierced through me. ′Shift’ He mind linked me.

I couldn’t.

I can’t shift while being pregnant.

I shook my head.

Suddenly, there were hunters surrounding us. Lucifer growled at them ferociously, ready to rip them apart.

′Run.′ He instructed me.

′Now!′ He bellowed in my head and I sprinted off running in the woods. Lucifer was on my tail, as so was the hunters.

I couldn’t run as fast.

My stomach ached.

I cried in pain, making my pace to slower down.

′Don’t slow down.′ Lucifer ordered.
