Chapter 7: 7 Danger!

Apocalypse Survive (Completed)Words: 6039

The men surged forward, and chaos erupted.

Kael swung his pipe wildly, managing to knock one attacker back with sheer desperation. But another scavenger circled behind him, slamming a club into his ribs. Kael gasped, the air knocked from his lungs as he crumpled to the ground.

"KAEL!" Ann's voice was a feral roar.

Rage ignited inside her, primal and all-consuming. The world blurred as she launched herself at the attackers, fists and feet moving with lethal precision.

The first man's nose shattered under her punch, blood spraying as he collapsed. The second tried to bring a knife down on her, but she caught his wrist, snapping it with brutal efficiency. His scream was cut short as she drove a knee into his gut.

Another scavenger lunged, but Ann spun, delivering a roundhouse kick that sent him crashing into a rusted car frame.

"You think you can touch him?" she snarled, eyes blazing with fury. "You think I'll let you live after that?"

The leader, realizing the massacre unfolding before him, turned to flee. Ann was faster. She grabbed the back of his collar, yanking him to the ground.

"Please-" he begged, blood bubbling from his split lip.

Ann's voice was ice. "You hurt *my Kael.* That was your last mistake."

Her fist came down like a hammer, and when she finally stood, the scavengers lay broken and lifeless around her.

Breathing heavily, Ann turned, her heart clenching at the sight of Kael sprawled on the ground, clutching his side. Blood stained his shirt.

"Kael!" she gasped, dropping to her knees beside him.

He smiled weakly, pain etched into his features. "You... handled that well," he rasped.

Ann's hands trembled as she cradled his face. "Don't joke right now, you idiot," she said hoarsely. "You're hurt."

"I had to protect you," he whispered. "I couldn't just stand there."

Ann's throat tightened. "You don't need to protect me, Kael. *That's my job.*"

Tears pricked her eyes as she tore fabric from her sleeve, pressing it against the wound on his side. "Stay with me, okay? Don't you dare pass out on me."

Kael winced but nodded, his trust unwavering even in agony. "Not going anywhere," he promised weakly.

Ann worked quickly, her movements efficient despite the fear clawing at her chest. She cleaned and bandaged the wound as best she could, whispering reassurances all the while.

"You're so damn stubborn," she muttered, brushing damp hair from his forehead.

Kael managed a faint laugh. "Learned from the best."

Despite herself, Ann smiled through the tears threatening to fall. "Damn right."

When she finished, she pulled him carefully into her arms, holding him close. His warmth against her was a lifeline, grounding her amidst the chaos.

"I love you," Kael murmured, his voice barely audible.

Ann's breath hitched. She pressed her forehead against his. "I love you too, Kael. More than anything."

They stayed like that, wrapped in each other's arms as the wasteland loomed around them.

Ann knew the road ahead would be brutal, filled with more dangers and battles. But as long as she had Kael by her side, she would fight through hell itself.

And nothing-not scavengers, monsters, or the wasteland-would ever tear them apart.

The deserted city loomed ahead, silent and shadowy under the blanket of night. Jagged buildings stood like skeletal guardians of the past, broken windows glinting faintly in the pale moonlight.

Ann carried Kael effortlessly in her arms, the "princess carry," as he teasingly called it. Despite the cold wind biting through their clothes, warmth radiated between them. Kael's head rested against her shoulder, his breath soft on her neck. He marveled at the effortless strength she possessed, even after the chaos of battle.

"You okay?" Ann asked quietly, her voice tinged with concern.

Kael gave a faint laugh despite the ache in his ribs. "A bit bruised but alive-thanks to you, as always."

Ann's lips curved into a smirk, though her eyes flicked down to him with a rare softness. "You're lucky I love you, Kael."

"I know," he whispered, brushing his fingers lightly against her arm. "And I love you too, Ann. Always."

The wasteland's dangers were distant now, yet a different storm brewed within Ann-one she struggled to suppress. Her steps faltered slightly, a bead of sweat trailing down her temple despite the frigid air.

"Ann?" Kael lifted his head, worry creeping into his voice. "What's wrong?"

She shook her head, but the effort was futile. Her instincts as an alpha surged uncontrollably, hot and insistent. The rut clawed at her senses, clouding her focus. Her breathing quickened, and her body trembled beneath the strain of resisting it.

Kael's eyes widened as realization dawned. He knew the signs-knew what Ann was fighting against. He also knew that if she didn't give in, it could drive her to madness.

"Ann," he said firmly, cupping her face despite his injuries. "Stop fighting it."

"I can't-" she ground out, her voice strained. "Not here... not like this."

"You *need* this," Kael insisted, his thumb brushing over her cheek. "And I need you."

The intensity of his words shattered her last defense. With a shuddering breath, Ann lowered him gently onto the soft patch of earth beneath a crumbling archway. Shadows danced around them, but in that moment, nothing else existed but the heat between them.

Kael reached for her, pulling her down into a searing kiss that ignited every nerve in her body. Their mouths moved urgently, desperately, as though the world might end if they parted. Ann's hand slid into his hair, gripping tightly as she deepened the kiss, her need raw and unrestrained.

Kael groaned softly against her lips, the sound vibrating through her like a melody. Despite the bruises marring his body, he pressed closer, his hands tracing the lines of her back. There was no hesitation-only trust, love, and the fierce desire to be one with her.

"Kael..." Ann breathed his name like a prayer, her lips ghosting over his jawline.

"I'm here," he whispered, his voice steady despite the pounding of his heart. "I'll always be here for you."
