Sorry it took so long to update, I got sick and couldn't attend classes or do work most of the week. But I'm back <: hope you enjoy this chapter! (Also thanks for the votes and stuff, not what I was expecting to be honest)
Sam woke up to his alarm blaring into his left ear. He begrudgingly sat up, checking the time on his phone.
2:30 am
Sam sighed, pushing himself out of bed, he rubbed his eyes slowly. Then he grabbed his phone and found a fluffy hoodie to pull over his shirt. He grabbed his already packed bags and hauled them down the stairs. He went back upstairs to grab went things he might have left behind, chargers, toothbrush, blankets, etc. After around five minutes of waiting in the kitchen, for Colby, Sam trudged upstairs and knocked on his door.
"What?" A tired muffled voice came from inside the room. Sam smiled slightly before opening the door.
Colby sat there rubbing his eyes and yawning.
"What time is it?" Colby asked, wiping his hands on his shirt carefully.
"Just get dressed, you idiot."
Sam chuckled at his friend as he walked down the stairs and made his way back to the kitchen. He grabbed some Pop Tarts and put them into the toaster, knowing Colby would come down hungry. After a couple of minutes Colby came down the stairs, looking heavily exhausted.
"Here." Sam smiled, handing Colby the warm toaster strudel, the smell of strawberry lingering in the air. Colby nodded taking them and chomping off a generous bite. The two of them hauled the luggage into the back of Colby's car, they had packed light, but it was still exhausting. Sam knew Colby was too tired to drive, so Sam took the wheel. He pulled up google maps and pressed the gas pedal.
The ride was mostly silence, Colby having fell back to sleep. Sometimes there would be light chatter about sleeping habits or the airport, but most of the half hour drive was quiet. The silence was filled with the strong sound of LA traffic every once in a while.
When they arrived Colby was asleep. Breathing lightly, humming slightly at the car stopping. Sam smiled and paid for parking. He then grabbed his and Colby's bags and opened the passenger seat door. Colby woke to the sound, he looked up and saw Sam brightly smiling at him, holding his luggage.
"Thanks." Colby mumbled, getting out of the car and grabbing his own luggage. They weaved their way through the crowded airport. They reached security and did the usually procedural tasks. After going through security Sam checked the time.
3:34
Their gate was relatively close, Gate A7, Colby looked half asleep though. They got to the gate and Colby sat down, nearly passing out right then and there. Sam decided to go get both of them coffee.
He stoped at Dunkin' Donuts, the closest place to their gate. He ordered two large black coffees and grabbed a few sugar packets and half-and-half cups. Sam carefully walked over to Colby, the strong bitter coffee aroma immediately made Colby shoot up from his half-sleep state.
"Thanks," Colby muttered, "I need this." He took a big sip, without adding anything or waiting for the boiling hot beverage to cool a bit. He savored the bitter warm drink as it flowed down his throat. The coffee immediately warmed him up, and awoke him a bit more. He smiled contented.
Sam smiled at Colby enjoying his coffee. He added some cream and sugar before taking a small sip, Â satisfied. "Glad you enjoy it." Sam answered.
Buzz
His phone lit up. It was a text from Jake, it read: We got here late last night, I know you guys are at the airport, just text me when you get here bro.
Sam smiled at his phone, deciding not to text him back yet. He sighed, staring at the gate. Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â "So how are you feeling about the flight?" Sam asked Colby, trying to fill the air with something other than airport chatter.
"I'm fine." Colby said, brushing off the question.
"You sure?" Sam asked, concerned for his best friend. Colby had been dismissive since he woke up, Sam thought he was just tired, but his words seemed forced and agitated. Colby inhaled and Sam knew he shouldn't have pushed.
"Sam stop. I'm fine. Leave me alone." Colby growled. Sam nodded, looking away. Colby never meant these things, he just said them because of anxiety or exhaustion. He felt bad, and took at out with words, usually on Sam. He always apologized after, and it rarely ever happened, so Sam wasn't hurt by Colby's words as much.
Sam checked his phone, wishing that time would go faster. As if hearing his wishes, before he knew it, they started to board. It was still early, and the buzzing of crowded people squeezing onto flights filled Sam's ears.
Soon their group was called and they got on the plane. Sam had the window seat, like normal, he loved to look out on the clouds. He sat down in his seat, Colby sitting next to him. He looked over at Colby.
Colby's eyes were slightly red and he looked like he was going to be sick.
"I don't want to bother you, but I'm genuinely worried, are you okay." Sam asked, Colby nodded lightly before turning to Sam.
Colby said, barely audible "I'm sorry I yelled, I've been feeling sick all morning, I didn't need to take it out on you though. I'm sorry about that." Sam just smiled and gave Colby a half hug.
The flight was boring, around 2-3 hours of movies or random plane games. Colby was asleep for most of it, he was an insomniac (that's so real) and had trouble sleeping.
Sam saw land and he thought he might jump out of his seat. Soon the plane landed, jolting Colby awake. Finally they let people off the plane, it took what seemed like forever, but the world seemed to open up after stepping out of the plane. Sam felt so much better.
Their luggage was a carry on so they didn't need to head for baggage claim. They just called an Uber and drove to their hotel. The Uber smelt like a new car, though the driver looked much less new. He was nice, having a warm voice and a simple smile, and he drove them where they needed to go.
They entered the hotel wheezing. Colby checked them in and Sam texted Jake and Johnnie. They both were exhaled, so it was no surprise that when they got to their hotel room the collapsed on the queen bed.
The top cover a soft pillowy white, and the pillow cases soft as can be. They both melted into the bed, forgetting the context of that day.
