Chapter 9: Chap-9

Vampires Adopted MeWords: 8536

I was thinking. Everything was coming together like a puzzle and I was the jagged piece in the middle. I needed more information, but Liz was gone. I didn't want to go downstairs with all this information in my head. I was even starting to remember last night.

"Hazel?" Someone whispered. I was so out of it I didn't even notice my door open and Ian's head popping in "Can I talk to you or are you too afraid to see me?"I wasn't scared of him..i don't think. I mean I wasn't really scared of any of them. Just shocked like a dream, I was hoping the being scared part would come later.

"Come in" I whispered barely having enough breath to talk. In less than a second Ian was sitting on the bed next to the spot Liz left me only thirty minutes ago.

"Baby steps" I said flinching back from him.

"Oh, right sorry" He said. He gave me a soft smile.

"I want to know more" I blurted.

"I bet" He said chuckling a little. I played with my fingers waiting for him to talk. He sighed. "Where do I start?"

"Jade, I want to know about how it all came to be in more detail"

"A long time ago there was the biggest family on earth and we were called the Trinian's. No matter if you were female or male it was our tradition that when you married to a Trinian your last name would be, Trinian. Just a simple fact to move and now on to the story" I was just sitting and listening as he started out slowly with the story.

"Jade; she was the most beautiful girl in the kingdom and she played some very dangerous games. Her favorite aside from getting everyone against Liz was making every boy fall in love with her. One person was a man named Fallon. He was the king's son. He was the hardest to fall and no one thought anything of it. But Jade wanted to be married to Lucas"

"Aren't they related?" I interrupted.

"Well like I've told you. Nothing blood. The family didn't think anything of it really." Ian said "well we had no idea Fallon's family were...strong vampires. Jade announced the engagement to Lucas to our family. We stayed and partied, but one night Fallon and his family showed even though they weren't invited to this event, but they came anyway. Only they didn't come for the wine and scenery. They killed us all. To this day we're unsure if it was intentional that we all changed into vampires, but it happened when we were all in the ballroom and Jade wore the black beauty. The same dress you wore just yesterday."

"Mhm"

"We don't remember up till the moment it happened, but we woke all blood thirsty. We all waited for Jade to wake up....But she never did. She died" he said. I nodded as I took all of it in.

"What happened after that?" I asked.

"Well, everyone was devastated about jade. Then we all spread around the earth. All the Trinian's kept to themselves and we haven't talked to each other till just yesterday." I sighed then I laid down on my bed and cuddled up into a ball. Everything was changing and it hurt...

"Do you miss her?" I asked.

"I can't say that I do." He said bowing his head.

"You're....a vampire!" I blurted now having it put in my mind. It clicked, all of it. "Oh my god, Lucas tried to kill me" I said now getting up. I was sore all over but I still tried to move. Ian zoomed over to me with inhuman speed and put his arm in front of me.

"Where are you going?" Ian asked me.

"To confront him" I said.

"I don't think so" Ian said. "He doesn't do well with confrontations"

"He tried to kill me!" I shouted.

"We're vampires; it's sort of what we do. And that doesn't give us an excuse and I'm terribly sorry for his behavior, but even if you did confront him he would brush it off his shoulder, because he is an ass" Ian said.

"Right, I'm sorry I'm just a little confused on what I should do. Do I just treat everyone like nothing happened?"

"I would recommend it, but you don't have to do anything you don't want to do. Unless they try eating you, I think you're good to just treat us like everyone else." Ian said pulling me back to the bed to sit. "I'll protect you"

"Thanks" I said, sighing and closing my eyes. My thinking was soon interrupted when an outburst of laughter went through my ears.

"What's so funny?" I asked Ian.

"Well when you found out Lucas tried to kill you, you immediately wanted to be in the same room with him and exchange foul language"

"Yeah, that was pretty stupid. I wasn't thinking right" I said a smile pulling at the corners of my mouth. Ian started laughing again and I hit him in the shoulder and then coiled back with my now hurt hand.

"You will learn" Ian said laughing and pulling me into a side hug on the bed. I felt a little scared at the thought of his arm being wrapped around me, but I was more in a giggling mood than anything.

"So, do you have any questions?" He asked me. I bit my lips and then told him the question that was itching in the back of my head.

"What did you do with Jade's body?" I asked. I could tell I took him by surprise with my question.

"We put her under the floor boards of the ballroom" He finally said. My eyes grew into gulf balls.

"What? That's gross?! Why didn't you put her in the dirt?" I shrieked. My words sounded harsh. I almost took it back.

"When she was a little girl she loved it in there. It was her favorite place and we thought it was the most we could do for her" I nodded then another question came to mind.

"We have a...ballroom? Where?" I asked now interested. I hoped up and pulled him up with me. "Can I see?"

"Oh its way in the far back of the house." He opened my bed room door and showed me out. I followed as we went down the stairs and out the back door of the kitchen. We walked through the laundry room till we hit a hallway I never saw before. At the end was a ruined golden trimmed door with cobwebs at the handle.

"This is the back way to the room" Ian said as he opened the door. I walked in and felt like an old memory was coming back, there was the ball room. Cobwebs hung from the roof and the small tops of fireplaces and slim tabled were covered in dust. The floor was made of marble except the small part in the back of the room. She was buried there. I walked over there feeling gross like spiders were crawling over me. The sound of popcorn crunched over the small glass and candle wax. I could see the two small front doors of the ballroom farthest from where we stood. I walked a little over everything Ian stayed a little behind as I took in the scent of dust. It was amazing even in ruins.

"Looks like no one has come in this room for about two hundred years" I said.

"Not since we buried her. So about two hundred, yeah." Ian said behind me. I started to walk away from him again. I needed space. I went over to the small wall filled with family portraits. I found Ian's. It looked just like him. I smiled.

"Where is everyone else?" I asked suddenly as I noticed we didn't run into anyone on our way here.

"Out trying to give you time to wrap your head around the whole Vampire concept" Ian lied as he maneuvered around the crumble.

"Really?" I asked raising my eyebrows.

"They're hunting" He confessed. "I wanted to give you time to wrap your head around that"

"It's a little freaky, but....I'm trying to understand. Do you kill?" I asked.

"We don't fully kill anyone. We drink and then erase their memories. Similar to you last night" He watched my reactions carefully. "Are you scared of me?"

"I know you're not going to hurt me"

"How can you be so sure" Ian said using his inhuman speed to come to me and wrap his arm around me and put his mouth very close to my neck. I screamed as his hand pushed my hair from my neck. I screamed again trying to cringe but being held in one place by Ian's strong arm.

"Ha-ha, Hazel don't worry I'm not going to hurt you." Ian said laughing as he set me back on my feet.

"Don't do that" I said hitting his chest. He shrugged it off and then sighed as he looked around the room and started to walk again with his hands in his pockets.

"So many memories" He said. I looked around the room. I could see the gold wall paper faded.

"I'm sorry about Jade" I said. He stopped walking and turned to look at me. He gave me a sweet smile.

"It's ok." He said. "You saw the room. Let's go"

"Wait. Why not clean it up and use it tonight?" I asked. Ian shook his head.

"I don't think so. Bad memories in here mostly for everyone. Let's go Hazel." He said. I turned and walked out listening to his command. I took one more look at the ballroom and almost saw the faded shadows of people dancing. I knew I was someday going to have this room used again.
