From Liamâs perspective:
We arrived at Alyâs fatherâs office, the pack doctor. When I lifted Sussan out of the car, I once again felt the pleasure of her backside in my hands, and within two seconds of letting her go onto the examination table, I already missed her. I had never felt such a strong connection to anyone, and my brother and I had no doubt that Sussan was our mate, even though it was evident that she was nothing more than a human, albeit a bit clumsy.
âWhat happened?â asked John, Alyâs father, as he entered the office and recognized the human.
âShe hurt her ankle,â said Aly without providing any further explanation.
âSooner or later, youâll have to tell us how she got injured,â I said to Aly through our mental bond.
John turned to look at us, confirming what his daughter had told us.
âWe donât know anything else,â I said through the mental link.
âVery well,â said John, addressing Sussan. âLet me examine you.â
Just by touching Sussanâs foot, John made her feel a twinge of pain. I had to restrain myself and extend my arm to restrain my brother, who almost lunged at her. It was clear that any sign of pain or suffering from Sussan affected us equally, but we had to control ourselves if we didnât want her to think we were a couple of crazy or toxic individuals.
âIâll have to send you for an X-ray, because even though Iâm ruling out a fracture, there might be a sprain,â said John as he lifted Sussan, which bothered both Ethan and me because we couldnât help feeling threatened by any male who laid hands on her, even if he was the pack doctor.
âIâm just taking her to the X-ray room,â John said through the mental bond, confident because he had already sensed our distress. âIâll let you know how serious or not her injury is soon.â
âDo what you have to do, Doctor,â I replied through the bond while giving a smile to Sussan, who seemed very unsettled and uncomfortable with our presence, but it was inevitable for us not to be unsettled when we knew something bad had happened to her.
That girl had completely disrupted our peaceful and even monotonous existence. We had no idea what had brought her to us, but from the moment she stumbled into Ethan and we turned to look at her, we knew we were connected to her. We felt the bond immediately.
Never before had something like this happened, and despite having had several s****l partners, we had never felt something so intense for any of them, let alone considering the idea of sharing one of our women. But with Sussan, it was different, completely different. Just by looking at her, we knew that we both desired her in the same way and that neither of us was going to give her up. We had to come to an agreement so that the feeling we shared for the shy human wouldnât interfere with the good relationship we had always had since we were born. John left the office with Sussan, and we saw that Aly was about to follow her, but my brother stopped her.
âWe need to know how she got hurt,â Ethan asked through the bond. He and Aly had been good friends in childhood, but they hadnât spoken in years, and the same level of trust they once had no longer existed.
âIt was just a fall, from the balcony of my room,â Aly said, feeling somewhat embarrassed by how ridiculous it sounded. âYou know sheâs a bit clumsy.â
âDo you really expect us to believe that?â Ethan replied, somewhat annoyed. I had to use my power to hold back his anger and wait for him to calm down. Of the two, he was the more temperamental one.
âItâs the truth, or what else did you expect?â
Ethan crossed his arms.
âWe donât know Sussanâs family,â I said, âbut we have strong indications to believe that she may have been abused.â
âWhat? What are you talking about? I already told you what happened. I was there when she fell.â
I looked into my brotherâs eyes. He had revealed something we had wanted to keep secret, at least until we had more precise information.
âWhat do you mean? Like being abused?â Aly was interested to know, as was obvious. Now it was my turn to answer since I was the one who mentioned the matter.
âYou should know she lives with her stepfather,â I said. âWe know heâs not an exemplary man.â
âI donât know what you guys believe, but I can assure you that she twisted her ankle right in front of my eyes.â
I nodded. I believed what Aly told us, knowing she wouldnât lie to us, and also because I wanted to put an end to the topic and not add more to our suspicions about Sussanâs family.
âIâm going to go see my father, if you donât mind.â
We nodded.
âWhat are you going to do about the Chloe situation?â I asked my brother, still using the mental bond even though we were alone in the office now, but I knew Sussan could come back at any moment and I didnât want to take any risks with her. We hadnât decided yet how we would let her know about our nature without driving her crazy.
âThat matter is already dead, non-existent,â Ethan replied, evidently annoyed that I had brought up the topic. Iâve already said heâs very temperamental.
âThen why does Sussan look at you the way she does? She must have seen something or knows something since you were with Chloe until this morning.â
âLook at me? What are you talking about?â
âYou know what I mean. Even though they try to hide it, humansâ gaze is an open book to us, and she is easily readable.â
Ethan snorted. He knew he was aware of the same thing I had already perceived.
âAnyway, thatâs already in the past, and Chloe knows it,â he said.
âI wouldnât be so sure about that,â I replied.
âNow what matters is finding out if Alisson told us the truth or not, or if the stepfather has something to do with what happened to Sussan.â
âIt surprises me that you distrust Aly, considering the friendship that existed between you,â Ethan stared at me. I know that if he werenât my peer and we werenât both alphas, he would feel offended at that moment.
âWhatever. We need to find out if the stepfather is a threat to her. I canât stand the idea of him being able to harm her.â
I agreed with my brother, but just as I was about to make him promise that Chloeâs situation was true, we heard that Sussan was back.
