âCan someone explain what the High Table is?â I demanded.
âThe High Table is composed of the most powerful Alphas of our time. The Alphas of the five largest packs. They are our government. They rule over all the Alphas in this country,â Axel replied.
I pieced it together and furrowed my brow, âWhen I become the Luna of the three packs, I will officially have the largest pack in the country. Theyâll want me to take a seat at the main table.â
âYou? Never,â Thomas scoffed, his expression bitter. âNo matter if you could kill them all, they would never allow a woman to sit at the main table. Theyâll insist your mate takes that honor.â
âThat seat belongs to Sussan,â Liam spoke first, looking at Ethan, who nodded in agreement. They both looked me in the eyes, and the emotion emanating from them made my heart ache. âShe could help protect all the future white wolves. She could change things.â
âThat she could. Which makes her even more dangerous,â Axel spoke grimly, turning his eyes back to me. âWhichever Alpha you oust from the High Table will become furious and will set their sights directly on you.â
âThey can try, but weâll keep her safe,â Ethan retorted. âThe members of our pack will protect her with their lives.â
âVery well. It seems we agree on something, for once,â Axel replied. âYou have the full support of my pack, but I wonât bow under your rules, boy. If we do this, we do it as equals.â
âAgreed,â Liam nodded, and Ethan did the same. âYou also have the support of my pack,â Thomas nodded.
âThey wonât come for her. Theyâll wait for her to come to them. Iâd say she has a week, maybe two, before they call a meeting.â Axel grimaced, running his hand through his hair. âYouâll have no choice but to attend. Declining is declaring war.â
âThen we wait,â Liam responded, his eyes softening as they met mine. âWeâll be ready when they call.â
âI want to train,â I blurted out the words through my own fear-soaked gaze. This was becoming much more than I had intended. I had accepted Liam and Ethan. I had accepted what I was and what I could do, but this, this was too much. First, I had to deal with the fact that I wasnât human. Then, I had to accept that I was a coveted white wolf; and now, now I had five of the most powerful Alphas gunning for me. What scared me the most was that I wasnât sure if they wanted me dead or captured.
âSussan, thereâs no needâ¦â Liam began, but surprisingly, Axel interrupted him. âActually, thatâs not a bad idea,â Axel replied, giving Liam a hard look. âWhite wolf or not, I wonât leave my daughter defenseless.â
âEthan and I wonât be able to train her,â Liam frowned, and I winced at the pain that filled him. Both Liam and Ethan looked at me, âWe couldnât hurt you, doll. Someone else will have to train you.â
âI have someone in mind.â Axel nodded to himself. I took the moment of silence to speak up, âI think while we wait, we should find out what I can do. The better we understand my abilities, the better I can use them. If I know how to control what I do, there wonât be a living werewolf immune to my abilities.â
âThere arenât many records about white wolves, sweetheart,â Ethan murmured, âWhen Liam and I searched, we found almost nothing.â
âMaybe you werenât looking in the right places.â Thomas mused, his eyes lighting up. âI think I might be able to help with that.â
âAlright, then itâs settled. Liam, Axel, and I will gather our three packs. Weâll go over protection details to ensure an attack like this wonât happen again. Thomas, gather as much information as possible about what Sussan can do. Axel, have your trainer meet us at the city gym.â Ethan growled, his dark eyes simmering with restrained anger. âWe wonât let Sussan train alone, no matter how much you trust your trainer. Aly will attend the training with her from now on.â
âWhat about the attack? Whoâs going to figure out why it happened?â I asked.
âIt was a rogue attack, doll. They happen, unfortunately.â Liam furrowed his brow. âAre you sure? That was terribly big for just a rogue attack.â
I inquired, âIâm not trying to make something out of nothing, but when you told me about rogue attacks before, they always seemed much smaller.â
âSussan might have a point.â Liam and Ethanâs father interjected, âIâll look into the rogue attack, see if I can do something about it. Iâve lived through too many attacks to overlook something like this. If thereâs more to it, Iâll find out.â
âAlright, then weâre settled.â Liam nodded, âWeâll start everything tomorrow. From now on, my brother and I need some time with our mate.â
The house emptied quite quickly after that, but the thick tension in the air hadnât dissipated yet. I wasnât sure if it ever would. Not only had my secret been revealed, but the deadliest men in the country were looking at me. As soon as we were alone, I was drawn into the strong arms of Liam and Ethan. They both held me tightly between them, but I couldnât bring myself to mind. I let their scents envelop me and appreciated the brief respite from todayâs events. Unfortunately, the moment they pulled away, reality came crashing down.
âI asked in a soft and trembling voice, âHow bad was it? How many died?â Liam reassured me with a k**s on the forehead and loving whispers, avoiding talking about death at that moment.
Ethan, with an unusually soft and hoarse voice, continued, âWe want to appreciate you. When I saw you in danger, I couldnât reach you. We⦠didnât know what would happen.â His words remained unfinished, but his gestures and k****s took their place, driving away the shadow of death that loomed over us.
Lost in each otherâs arms, time dissolved while the dirt of the battle still covered our bodies. Yet, none of that mattered; we were safe and alive. Liamâs wound was now just a pink and irregular scar on his leg.
Later, the twins persuaded me to take a refreshing shower. I had no strength to resist, so I let them take care of me as the warm water cleaned the aftermath of the fight. Every touch, every caress, restored my strength. Liam and Ethan provided me with the support I needed.
Once clean of b***d and grime, I felt much better. Though my strength had not fully returned, I realized that with Liam and Ethan by my side, I would regain the lost energy. While Liam held me close, whispering comforting words in my ear, Ethan took care of bringing me some food. With a satisfied stomach and a lighter heart, I snuggled between the arms of my two incredible companions.
Under the shelter of the warm blanket, I held on to the warmth emanating from them, feeling safe. My eyelids became heavy, but I wanted to prolong that moment as much as possible.
Liam spoke tenderly, âWe almost lost our minds, Sussan. You canât do something like that again.â I refused, looking at them firmly. âTell me you wouldnât do the same for me, tell me you wouldnât come running if I were in danger.â
Silence filled the room, and my voice gained new strength as I spoke, âI know, I know.â There she was, not the scared and shaken girl, but the Luna inside me. Strong, proud, and fiercely protecting her companions.
âIâm determined to be prepared after this. Iâll train hard, and if something like this happens again, no werewolf will keep me from being by your side. Iâll face them all, every last one.'â
