Chapter 31 â Sheâs Mine Anyway (2)
As soon as she free was of Ianâs hands, Louise ran into the depths of the library saying she had something to do.
âLouise Sweeney is so sweet,â
Stella said admiringly as she watched Louise hurry away.
âSheâs sweet to everyone.â
âSheâs liked by everyone.â
âSheâs relied on by everyone.â
ââ¦Come to think of it, Iâve heard a rumor.â
Stella gave a light smile as if she had just remembered.
âThis yearâs top student, Louise Sweeney, is being used and harassed by the president of the student council.â
She clapped her hands and added,
âOf course it doesnât seem like youâd do such a bad thing.â
âWhatâs wrong with that?â
It was an unexpected reply. Stella hesitated.
âWellâ¦taking of advantage of someone, harassing themâ¦â
âSheâs mine anyway.â
He smiled arrogantly.
ââ¦What?â
âIs that surprising? â
âOhâ¦ofâof course.â
Stella could bring herself to meet Ianâs eyes.
Mine. That wasnât a word used to describe everyday relationships, but Ian had answered so naturally.
âI rely on Louise Sweeney and all of the members of the student council to be my hands.â
The ordinary explanation was quite different from what Stella had imagined.
âAhâ¦â
So thatâs what he meant. Stella finally smiled a little. She had almost misunderstood that there was something special between Louise Sweeney and Ian.
But it was a short relief.
âStella Lapis probably knows.â
His blue eyes pierced her sharply.
âIf anyone else tries to use my hands as they pleaseââ
His cold voice seemed to squeeze the air out of her and she gripped the hem of her skirt in spite of herself.
ââhow would I feel?â
âYou wouldâ¦â
Stella said quietly, fumbling over her lips.
ââ¦you would hate that.â
âAnd?â
Say more?
âThat would be unpleasant.â
âAnd?â
âYouâd be angry.â
âRight.â
Ian smiled, apparently satisfied with her answer.
âAnyway, I didnât mean to change the subject to Louise.â
Ian relaxed his posture.
He hadnât intended to talk to Stella until she dragged him all the way here, saying she had something to talk about.
âSo, are you worried about your rumors?â
He recounted the anxieties Stella had confessed to him earlier. After the party there were rumors between Ian and Stella. It was inevitable. Heâd performed quite perfectly as Stellaâs escort.
âYes, I just want to attend the Academy quietly, but the people around meâ¦â
She bit her lip.
âIâm a little embarrassed because people around me are making a big deal about it. Is there any way out of thisâ¦andâ¦â
âWhat do you mean, people around you?â
âYou know, students who take the same class or come and go to the libraryâ¦â
âAnd you asked me to be alone with you in the library?â
âAh.â
Stella said nothing for a moment.
âIâm sorry. I didnât think.â
Her tender voice was a contrast to Ianâs stern one.
âI thought so.â
Then he turned and left the library. He had work to do in there, but he couldnât bring himself to remain inside.
It was because of Louise. Â It was because of Louiseâs expression between him and Stella. She looked like she could die from happiness. Was Ianâs scandal so exciting to her?
He didnât careâ¦right?
Come to think of it, it must be exciting for Louise. If he had a lover, then their engagement would be annulled.
âIâm strangely pissed offâ¦â
Why?
