Adeena brought a lot of snacks and toys that were loved by children, so the orphans jumped and ran around happily.
She was supposed to leave after sending Grapie there.
However, she suddenly felt reluctant when she saw the little girlâs clear eyes.
Half an hour later, a married couple would come and adopt a girl. Grapie looked so cute, so she would probably be adopted.
Adeena wanted to know which couple would become Grapieâs parents.
âMs. Adeena, can you stay with me a little longer?â
Grapie tugged on Adeenaâs sleeve and spoke pitifully.
Adeena carried her. âOf course.â
A fourâyearâold girl hid at a corner not far away; it was Cherry who had left angrily earlier.
She used to be everyoneâs favorite child in the orphanage, but after Grapie grew older, everyone only had eyes for Grapie.
When visitors came to spread their love, they would give all the delicious and fun things to Grapie first.
Whenever a married couple came to adopt a child, they would want to take Grapie home.
However, those couples ultimately wanted to adopt a boy, so although Cherry had been jealous of Grapie all these years, she never went too far.
That was, until yesterday. She had heard from Mama Sherry that a married couple wanted to adopt a healthy child, but the remaining boys in the orphanage were disabled, so they had to adopt a girl.
She knew that this was her chance.
Hence, she tricked Grapie into going out early in the morning, but Grapie came back before the interested married couple arrived.
She even brought back such a beautiful and gentle woman.
Cherryâs eyes were full of jealousy when she saw Adeena and Grapie hug and speak intimately.
She walked out of the corner and waved. âGrapie, come over. Iâd like to apologize to you.â
Grapie immediately left Adeenaâs arms. âMs. Deena, Iâll go and talk to Cherry. Please wait for me.â
When Grapie walked to the corner, Cherry dragged her in.
âAre you proud now?â Cherry grabbed Grapieâs collar, gritted her teeth, and said, âYouâll have parents today, and youâll leave the orphanage soon. Are you ecstatic?â Grapie widened her eyes. âCherry, didnât you say you wanted to apologize?â
âYou should apologize to me!â Cherry lowered her voice and said, âYou want to steal my parents. You want to steal my home! Youâre the worst kid in the world!â
âNo⦠No, I donât want to!â Grapie slowly walked back. âI donât want to leave the orphanage. I donât want to leave Mama Sherry. I donât want to leave so many friends here.â
âYouâre lying!â
Cherry pulled her with great force.
Every orphanâs biggest dream was to have parents, and their biggest hope was to have a home that belonged to them.
âYouâre hurting me.â
Grapie hunched her shoulders in fear.
Cherry pulled again and ended up tearing off the necklace around Grapieâs neck, dropping to the ground.
It was a jade necklace with a faint cloud carved on it.
Cherry immediately picked up the necklace. âIf you steal my parents, this will be mine! If Iâm adopted, Iâll return this to you!â
After she spoke, she turned around and left.
