As soon as the words came out of her, her cheeks suddenly blushed.
When she said this, it seemed as though she had acceded to his massage.
âThereâs no need. Itâll be fine after a whileâ¦â
Duke did not let her finish her sentence. He just took out her other leg in firm yet gentle movements.
His palms were very warm, and his fingertips had thin calluses. He gently rubbed her calf, and the spasms gradually dissipated.
âDo you often get cramps?â Duke asked softly as he rubbed her gently.
Adeena pulled her leg back and hid it under the quilt. She calmly said, âIâve been having cramps from time to time for the past few years. Itâs not a big deal.â
Dukeâs voice was a little somber, âHow did you get this ailment?â
The person he sent to investigate the matter had done a thorough check, but he only found out about what happened to her over the past three years. There was a oneâyear gap that was completely missing.
Moreover, she seemed to only remember what happened over the past three years.
âThis was a side effect left from a surgery I had,â Adeena said lightly, âMr. Winters, may I trouble you to leave the room first? Iâd like to get dressed.â
Dukeâs eyes darkened.
âSurgeryâ¦â
Why had he not found out that she had surgery three years ago?
He had checked all the hospitals in Cloud City, and there were no records of her surgery. Either she remembered it wrong, or the surgical record was erased by someone.
âWhy would they want to erase her surgical record?â
Dukeâs eyes were deep, like back ink.
âMr. Winters?â Adeena called softly.
Duke came out of his contemplation and casually said, âIâll go retrieve your clothes from the bathroom first.â
He got up and brought the clothes over and placed them by the bed. Then, he pursed his lips and said, âAfter you have changed your clothes, I will take you to the hospital to get a physical examination.â
Adeena looked up at him. âThereâs no need for that, itâs just an old sickness.â
âLetâs check it anyway, to put my mind at ease.
His voice was gentle, tender, and affectionate.
Adeena was stunned for a while.
She only came back to her senses after the man had turned around, walked out of the room, and closed the door.
She did not know how to feel about this.
She could feel that this manâs concern for her was not forced.
âBut how long have we known each other for? Could people really fall in love so quickly?â
While thinking of this, Adeena was stupefied once more.
âWhy does it feel like this man loves me?â
She must be under some sort of spell.
Adeena quickly put on her clothes, which fit her perfectly, as though it was tailorâmade for her.
She put on her shoes, opened the door, and walked out of the bedroom.
From this angle, she could see the corner of the dining room. Duke was sitting at the dining table with the four children, and the housekeeper was attending to him.
The family of five created a heartwarming picture.
She felt an urge to rush over and join themâ¦
Adeena pursed her lips and walked down the stairs slowly.
âAunt Deena, you look so beautiful in that dress!â Haroldâs mouth must be covered in honey because sweet words kept pouring out. âThis pink dress makes you look particularly radiant. Youâre even more beautiful than the female celebrities on TV. I have many more of these dresses in my room, you can take them all home with you!â
Adeena could not handle his gregariousness and laughed dryly, âNo, no, this dress is fineâ¦
