Everettâs face looked horrifying. His face was stained with blood and his eyes were bloodshot. There was no emotion in his murderous gaze.
He seemed to have lost his mind, with no glimmer of light in his eyes. His bloodthirsty gaze made him look like a vicious beast, who had been caged for days, and now only had one thing in mind: devour its prey.
Ninian was stunned. She was speechless.
âThis bloodthirsty and terrifying man looks nothing like the level-headed, shy boy I know.
âIâve always known that his illness is severe. But now, after watching him in this condition for the first time, I finally know how terrifying it is.
âThatâs not normal at all.â
âEverett!â Duncanâs expression changed. He approached him cautiously and nervously as he said, âPut down the knife. Come here, and let me see your wound.â
At that moment, it did not matter if Rowan was dead or alive.
If Everett saw more blood, he would immediately kill Rowan. His condition could worsen, and he would ultimately lose his mind.
Even with Duncan calling out to him, he did not respond at all.
He was holding a knife in one hand, and grabbing Rowanâs neck tightly in the other hand.
âEverett!â Duncan said hurriedly. He did not dare to get close to him. All he could do was watch him with a pleading gaze. âCalm down. You canât kill him. You shouldnât dirty your hands like thisâ¦â
âI wonât care as much if itâs someone else.
âItâs just merely a life. I can handle it easily.
âBut not for Everett.
âIf he kills Rowan, heâll spiral back into his dark age. He might not be able to come out of it again this time.â
Duncan was anxious. However, Ninian, who was standing beside him, started approaching Everett.
She looked into his eyes and walked towards him slowly but firmly.
âHoney, donât you recognize me?â
Everett looked at her, but he did not respond.
She continued, âIâm Ninian. You always call me âhoneyâ.
âYou used to say that Iâm your light.
âAnd you told me that youâll stay by my side forever.â
Everettâs gaze gradually turned hazy. âNinianâ¦? Honey Duncan instantly became overjoyed. âThis is a herald of Everettâs recovery process!
âThis girlâ¦â
He watched her from the back. His usual stern face revealed a sense of joy and hope.
Ninian did not stop as she walked closer to Everett. She bent down slightly and stretched out her hand towards him.
âHoney, you can hold my hand. Do you want a hug?â
Everett did not utter a word. However, there was an obvious sign of conflict in his gaze.
She lowered her gaze and looked at his long, fair arms with a frown.
âHoney, Iâm scared. Can you hug me?â
She continued to coax him with a gentle voice.
Everett gradually focused on her.
He let go of Rowanâs neck, turned, and reached out to her.
Her eyes teared up as she looked delighted.
But Everett suddenly retreated.
Instead of holding her hand, he pulled it back. He looked at her with fear, guilt, and worry.
âThereâs⦠so much bloodâ¦â
Ninian did not catch what he said. She asked him gently, â What is it?â
He pursed his lips and said, âIâm so dirtyâ¦â
Tears streamed down her face when she heard what he said.
âYouâre not! Youâre the cleanest person on Earth!â She looked at him in a serious manner and insisted, âYouâre the kindest person I know!â
He looked at her with his bloodshot eyes. Like a little child who had made a mistake and was trying to seek validation, he asked in disbelief, âReally?â
âYes!â She said, âListen to my heartbeat if you donât believe me. See for yourself whether Iâm lying or not!â
