Adina felt defeated too.
She sat by the bed before she lifted the lid of the porridge. She spooned up some, put it to the manâs lips, and calmly said, âOpen your mouth.â
Duke opened his mouth obediently.
The bland porridge swirled around on his lips and tongue before he swallowed it.
It was the most delicious porridge that he had ever eaten.
He smiled faintly and slowly said, âI want more.â
âDo you know what you look like now?â Adina looked at him with a faint smile and asked in a meaningful way.
Duke did not understand. âWhat do I look like?â
Adina wanted to say âa stray dog,â but she held back.
âYou look like Harold,â she said helplessly.
âYouâre wrong. He should be the one who looks like me.â Duke did not feel embarrassed at all. âHeâs my son. If he doesnât look like me, who else could he look like?â
Okay.
Adina could not argue back.
As though she had surrendered to fate, she kept feeding Duke again and again.
That went on until someone else suddenly pushed open the ward door at the back. Soon after, they heard a frivolous voice. âOh, wow! We didnât see anything!â
Trent covered his eyes as soon as he entered and even covered Eilamâs eyes with his other hand.
Eilam had no idea what was happening. He looked dumbfounded as he moved Trentâs hand away before he saw Adina feeding Duke some porridge.
He immediately turned around. âPlease continue! Weâre leaving now!â
Adina was speechless.
People who were not in the know might have thought that she and Duke were committing an unspeakable act!
She stood up indifferently and said, âIâm done feeding him the porridge. You can come in.â
She held the empty food container and left the ward, leaving the space to the three of them. âWell done, Duke!â Trent clapped. âItâs only been a few days since we last met, but you and Adina have progressed to this stage? Tell us right now. How did you gel this woman?â
Eilam said, âCanât you see that Dukeâs bedridden? He must have been a hero and saved the beauty!â
Duke smiled faintly.
âWhat the f*ck?!â Trent shouted as if he had seen a ghost. âWeâve known each other for so many years, but this is the first time Iâve seen you smile in such an unrestrained way.â
Duke immediately stopped smiling and cast a cold glance at him. âShut up if you canât speak properly.â
He paused for a while and said, âRemember to attend my engagement party on the sixth next month.â
Trent appeared completely shocked. âAre you going to get engaged to Adina? What the heck?! Youâre going as fast as a rocket!â
âIf theyâre really following a rocketâs pace, they should just get married,â Eilam said. âBut Duke, can your sons accept Adina as their stepmother?â
Duke nonchalantly answered, âI forgot to tell you something. Adina and I had a one-night affair five years ago. We have four children in total.â
âWhat the f*ck?â Eilam said.
Trent followed with, âWhat the heck?! What the f*ck?â
It took them five minutes before they could barely accept and digest the news.
