Adina had been up since 4.00 am. She was so exhausted that her whole body was aching. Duke kissed her on the forehead with affection. âIâll bring you home so that you can have a good rest after the toast.â
âIt doesnât matter how tiring it is. Itâs just one day.â Adina leaned in his arms and softly said, âYouâve just been discharged from the hospital. You should drink less when you make your toast later.â
âIâll do as you say, Dear.â Duke kissed her cheek again before he turned around and went to the resting lounge next door to get changed.
Adinaâs gown was complex, and two stylists had to help her before she could successfully wear it. They then immediately put on new makeup on her face.
This gown was red. It looked festive with its beautiful lace and gold embroidery.
Adina looked in the mirror and fixed her makeup before she walked out of her dressing room and knocked on the next roomâs door.
The makeup artist there respectfully said, âMr. Winters finished changing half an hour ago. He should be greeting the guests in the lobby now.â
Adina nodded and thanked her before she lifted the hem of her gown and walked toward the lobby.
She stood at the entrance as she glanced at the whole banquet hall, but she did not see the stunning man.
That man was like a light that shone brightly wherever he went, so much so that it was impossible to look at him directly.
Theoretically, she should be able to spot him immediately.
âMommy, youâre so beautiful!â
âWow, Mommy! Whatâs on your head? Why is it so beautiful ?â
The children showed up from nowhere and surrounded her.
Adina smiled and said, âItâs a golden hair clip. Itâs an antique piece of jewelry, and it matches my gown.
Mel, if you like it, Iâll give it to you once the weddingâs over.â
Melody smiled happily. âThank you, Mommy.â âOh yeah, whereâs your dad?â Adina smiled and asked.
The guests were already seated. According to the schedule, the bride and the groom should be entering the hall and making the toast.
George blinked and said, âI saw Dad walking outside the hotel just now. I donât know what heâs up to.â
Alden nodded. âDad seemed worried.â
Adina frowned.
For some reason, her heart felt a little uneasy, and her right eyelid suddenly throbbed.
âAddy, you finally got changed.â Mrs. Winters smiled and walked over out of the blue. âDuke had to leave because of something urgent. Iâll accompany you as you toast to the guests.â
Adina pursed her lips. âWhat is he busy with?â
What else would be more important than his wedding on his wedding day?
âThe Winters Cemetery is on fire.â Mrs. Winters lowered her voice and said, âItâs not a big deal, but only the bloodline of the Winters familyâs first son is allowed to enter the cemetery, so Duke has to go there personally. We canât let the kids go, can we?â
That indeed made some sense.
Yet, the unknown ominous feeling in Adinaâs heart grew stronger.
She took out her phone and said, âMom, Iâll give Duke a call first.â
There was a glint in Mrs. Wintersâ eyes, but she smiled and said, âOkay, be quick. The guests are waiting for us.â
Adina walked to the side and dialed Dukeâs number.
After two rings, someone picked up the phone, and she heard the manâs familiar voice from the other end of the line.
