Chapter Seven

I really dreaded going home afterwards. I didn’t want to ride in the car by myself. I felt like the chances of dying with someone with me where less likely. The ride home was really silent. Not like the comfortable silence, not even awkward silence, but it was deadly silent. The kind of silence that keeps you on edge, like in the horror movies. When the killer is in your home somewhere and when you call out all you here is deadly silence. I need something to make noise, I thought about the radio, but I was too afraid that it would start playing AC/DC music again.

I tried to park my car in my usual parking spot in my driveway, but someone’s car was blocking it. Who could be at my house? I park on the side of the road. Whoever was in my parking spot has hell to pay.

I walk inside the house and was greeted two strangers. There was a woman that look like her face had a lot of plastic surgery. She looks stern and serious. There was a man next to her. He was a little bit shorter than her, but he was very stalky. He scares the crap out of me, he was really scary. They both had blackish eyes and black hair. They both scare the crap out of me.

“Who are you and why are you in my house?” I ask. I didn’t care if it sounds rude, I needed to know why they were parked in my spot and in my house.

“Ah, you must be Athena.” The woman says. She gave me a wicked grin; it reminds me of Emery. “Um, yeah I am. So who are you?”

“I’m Alberta and this is my husband Fredlan.” She put out her hand for me to shake.

“What are you doing in my house?” I ask, not caring to shake her hand. She retracts it, her grin not fading.

“Penelope invited us for dinner. We just moved in the neighborhood from London,” That would explain the accent. “Are son is around here somewhere. I don’t know where he went off to.”

“Where’s Penelope?” I ask.

“She’s in the kitchen, dear.” I ran to the kitchen.

“Mom! Why did you invite these people over? Why didn’t you tell me?” I ask annoyance.

“They just moved here and I wanted them to feel welcome.” She says. “Now go wash up for dinner, you look like a mess.” I roll my eyes. Of course my mom would insult me when company is here.

I run upstairs to my room. I was not planning on coming down for dinner.

“What the hell are you doing in my room?!” I yell. Emery was looking through my closet. He just looks at me and shrugs.

“I was bored, so I came in here to look through your stuff.” I walk over to him and grab his arm. I try to push him out the door.

“GET OUT NOW!” I yelled. He wouldn’t bulge. God, how much does this kid weigh?

“No I like it in here. I found some really interesting things in here. I want to stay.” He says casually.

“No Emery! Get out.” I say. He still won’t move.

“You know for someone small, you really know how to push.” He infers. I roll my eyes at his stupid comment.

“My God, how much do you weigh?” I say while pushing with all my might.

“I only weigh one-seventy-five. You should really stop trying to push me out. You’re not going to win.” I groan and give up. I know I wasn’t.

“What will it take for you to get out of my room?” I ask annoyed. He shrugs again.

“I don’t know, maybe a kiss.” I snort. This guy was a freaking comedian.

“Don’t flatter yourself big boy.” I say back .He pouts.

“Please, love.”

“Don’t call me love. My name is Athena and that is what you will call me. Now can you PLEASE get out of my room? I need to get dressed for dinner.” I lie; I wasn’t going to get dressed for dinner. At most I’ll wear my sweatpants.

“I can’t stay and watch the show?” He asks pouting. I snort again. Freaking comedian I tell you.

“Get out of my room.” I command. He groans.

“Fine! I’ll leave.” He throws his hands up in the air and walks out of my room. Finally! I close the door behind him and lock it.

I was most defiantly not coming out for dinner tonight. Emery and his family scare the poo out of me.

“Athena time for dinner!” Mom yells. I didn’t respond and I didn’t move. I just sat on my bed staring at nothing.

“ATHENA!” My mom yelled again five minutes later. I still did nothing, I was not going to eat with them.

I hear a loud, forceful knock on my door three minutes after that. I didn’t answer it. “Athena, open the freaking door before I break it down.” Miles yells. I roll my eyes.

“No, I am not coming out.” I say in frustration.

“Athena, yes you are.”

“No, I’m pretty sure I’m not, Miles.”

“Athena, you are coming out now! You’re embarrassing mom and I, like you always do. This is exactly the reason you have no friends and probably won’t until the day you die. You’re an inconvenience to this family and you always have been and always will be. So just please come out of your room and eat dinner. You don’t have to talk because I know you’ll say something that will embarrass us and make the Fields leave. Don’t ruin this for mom like every other opportunity she had to get away from her psychopath daughter!” Miles shouts. Tears formed in my eyes, but I push them back. Well, that really hurt.

I get up from my bed and unlock and open the door. Miles was standing there looking angrier than ever.

“I’m sorry that I’m an embarrassment.” I whisper, not looking him in the eye and I ran downstairs.

“Nice for you to join us Athena.” My mom says rudely. I roll my eyes and sat down. Unforchantly it was between Emery and Miles.

“Ah, don’t blame her. I was like that when I was her age.” Alberta says. I roll my eyes again. Yeah, I bet she was a schizophrenic teenager like me. She thinks she knows me.

“Yes, we have our own little troublemaker. Emery is quite the rebel.” I choke on the water I was drinking. I was trying to hold in my laughter. Miles kicks me from under the table.

“Jerk.” I mutter under my breath. I guess Miles hear it because he kicks me again.

“Athena is not a troublemaker. She is a goodie-two-shoe if you ask me. Isn’t that right, love?” There goes Emery calling me love again. I kick Emery from under the table. He just laughs. Miles saw me kick him and so Miles kicks me. Mom raises an eyebrow, clearly confused on why he called me love.

I just stay quiet, not wanting to talk. They eventually change the subject and go on and on about useless stuff. I stay quiet and when they would ask me a question I would nod my head. I was bored, I wish I would have just had stayed in my room all night.

Pretty soon dinner was over and the Fields were about to leave.

“So we’ll see you guys soon. It was nice meeting you.” Fredlan says.

“Bye Athena, I’ll see you at school tomorrow.” Emery says with a big smile. I roll eyes, I know I am going to dread tomorrow. Then they walked out the door.

“I didn’t know that you were friends with Emery.” Mom says.

“We are not friends.”

“He seems to be friendly to you. You know he seems like a nice young man. I could see you two together.” She says.

“Ew, no! There is no way in Hell, Emery and I will go on a romantic level. We’re not even friends!” I say disgustedly. Where does my mom get these ideas?

“Okay, if you say so, dear.” Then she went to the kitchen.

A little later I was sitting on the floor of my room. I was really bored so I decide to sketch. I didn’t have the urge to sketch ever since I had drawn the demon. I grab my sketch book and decided to draw a bunny. Who doesn’t like bunnies? I sit at my desk and grab a pencil.

Halfway through drawing my cute little bunny I felt the urge to look up for some reason. In front of me is my bulletin board where I hang up my poems and things like that. There was nothing out of the ordinary on there.

I was about to get back to drawing again, but something thing that was hanging up stopped me. There was a poem hanging, a poem that I sure didn’t write. The words were written in red. I gasped and fell out of my chair. It scared the hell out of me.

It read:

Roses are red

Violets are blue

It’s only a matter of time

Before I have you
