Chapter 22: Seven German Soldiers

The Life Of A German SoldierWords: 2484

Albert patrolled around the small town, looking in every home and broke down all of the doors and windows. There was only one he had not checked yet, it was a bigger home and the door was open with candles in the windows. Albert went over to that one and he walked in quickly, aiming his gun early incase anyone heard him coming.

There were faint voices coming from the attic upstairs. He slowly walked up the ladder and the voices stopped. There were some creaks from the old wood when one of the soldiers stood up. Albert quickly went down the ladder, trying not to make any noise.

"Did you hear something from downstairs?" one of the German soldiers said as he got up.

Albert went into the family room and laid beneath a chair.  He had a perfect view of the attic's ladder. He aimed his rifle and waited. Dirty black boots came down it and there was a German soldier that was holding a MP-40. Albert focused his aim on the soldier.

"Is there anything there, Karl?" another soldier asked from the attic.

"Nothing it seems."

Albert quickly put his finger on the trigger before he would go back up to the attic. Bang! Albert shot the soldier in the right side of the chest. He fell from the ladder on the ground, putting his hand on the wound.

"Shieße!" yelled one of the German soldiers as they all came down the ladder at once.

"Where would that have came from?" asked a soldier on the right.

Albert pulled the automatic trigger again, nearly getting all of them at once. Five of them were wounded and two were dead. Albert got up from below the chair and walked over to the pile of German soldiers. Five of the soldiers that were barely alive stared at me. Albert pointed the gun at the five bodies and shot each one to make sure they were dead.

Albert walked out the house, casually. Peter was still standing against the shed with Ernst inside, sitting next to Charlotte.

"I heard the gunshots and what did you do, exactly Albert?" asked Peter when Charlotte and Ernst came out of the shed.

"There were seven of them Charlotte and I got, all of them. They were up in an attic doing whatever, I was not sure. Then, they heard me and so they came down the ladder from the attic. I was hiding under a chair, and that's when I fired."

Charlotte smiled and that's when she hugged and even kissed me on the cheek. Peter looked at me as we walked back to her home.

"She does not like you, she loves you!" whispered Peter with a smile.

"I know she does and I feel the same about her."
