"Beware the darkness of dragons,
Beware the stalker of dreams,
Beware the talons of power and fire,
Beware one who is not what she seems.
Something is coming to shake the earth,
Something is coming to scorch the ground.
Jade Mountain will fall beneath thunder and ice
Unless the lost city of night can be found."

Anyways, I have little blurb things that I'd love to share with you guys! What do you want to see?:
-Little Stray and Kage hanging out (before they got separated)
-Little Atlas before his former hoard got destroyed (w his parents, etc)
-How Ozzy and Ras was before the otheres
-Besides Stray to everyone else in Gold (my little nickname for the five of them), how everyone met
-What everyone's magic is, and how they found it
Next are some of my favorite things from the opening and closed scenes explained:
"On the edge of the town, across from a bakery and a blacksmith and centered at the front of a large forest, is a little shop owned by a witch.
The blacksmith was originally supposed to be Atlas'! I thought, with his intense heat, focus, and being able to craft his body into a perfect weapon, that he's really fit the role. Then, I thought 'my poor dude has been through so much, he deserves peace' and made him a co-owner of the little knick-nack store with his lovely platonic wife.
It's tall and large, with big windows and shiny red bricks half-hidden behind a magnificent garden. (The garden's actually owned by Marigold, the bakery owner from next door.)Â Inside, there are hundreds of things to catch someone's eyeâtrinkets and gadgets and useless lovely things. Feathers and unlucky rabbits' feet and dire wolf fangs, there's seeds and hand-crafted jewelry and beautiful glass wind chimes.
In this world, symbolisms such as a rabbit's food, an broken mirror and other things like that are real! The myths, the monsters and creatures, and all types of people are real. There's so many NCPs that I wanted to add in, but never made it to the final publishing cut.
There's enchanted weapons and clothes and funky little hats in every shape and size.
People like to put their familiar's in hats, it's a status symbol that can signify how power, rich, or connected the witch or other being is. Not having a good hat is like not having any fancy clothes to wear to a funeral or wedding. (Speaking of funerals, their lives are signified by being wrapped in colorful clothing, and a lock of hair getting placed onto the deceased body by the ones that love them. The more hair, fur, or feathers there are, the more the person is considered wealthy.
There's a box of sphinx feathers, a tube of pixie dust glowing from an empty basket, and pictures of stray, mystic creatures.(A children's book to teach about different creatures, but since Stray was also a child here, he didn't know better.)Â Griffins and satyrs and little green faes. Books on imps (they're baby demons)Â and talking serpents and a mix match of wild things. Charms, crystals, and rocks bundled together; herbs like cypress and lavender line the shelves next to the mushrooms and across from the line of staffs and grimoires.
More than anything in this world, crystals and herbs are considered the most important ingredients to a decent spell. If someone doesn't know the words, or was never handed down a grimoire or whatever, if they had powerful enough ingredients and indention, it could work and work well! The best kind of magic is the type you can't pick up from words.
Spells and wards and bottled luck at the back. (Think of XP from the block game.)Â A library full of everything from history books to fanatical theories on ancient gods hidden by a door of beads.
All the books are ones that Athanasius brought, like the nerd he is.
It's everything a witch, human, or other could possibly need."
:))
"On the edge of the town, across from a bakery and a blacksmith and centered at the front of a large forest, is a little shop owned by a witch.
And now, a little baby dragon, too!
It's tall and large, with big windows and shiny red bricks half-hidden behind a magnificent garden. Inside, there are hundreds of things to catch someone's eyeâtrinkets and gadgets and useless lovely things. Feathers and unlucky rabbits' feet and dire wolf fangs, there's seeds and hand-crafted jewelry and beautiful glass wind chimes.
It's everything a witch, human, or other could possibly need.
Stray, thoughâhe already has everything he needs and everything he wants.
I love doing this! The happy ending!
The hatchling, though once hurt and scared, has more safety and care from his coven than he knows what to do with. He never fears a cold night or a lost meal. He sleeps curled up with a protector he thought he'd never have, happy and warm.
He is still young, still without a strong heartfire, still with his scars but he never has to worry about being lost again.
The whole point of this book is that, no matter how bad things are or have been, there is always something or someone out there that is willing to love you. If you're lost, just hang on. You'll find it, or it'll find you.
So here Stray is, a loved little dragon, stuck exactly where he wants to be."
If you can't tell, I love anaphors (repetitive uses of the same words, phrases, or paragraphs in a repeated or rephrased way that changes the meaning over time) and things that come full circle! They're just the coolest.
"On the edge of a ghost town, across from an abandoned orphanage and a row of burnt, uprooted trees, is a half-collapsed church made refuge by a witch.
This, obviously, is out beautiful lad, Kaigon! We love them <3
It's old but large, with broken windows and fallen pillars half-hidden behind overgrown weeds. (Kage is too scared to touch them, because last time they dealt with plants, it was a stinging nettle, and are really bad telling things apart.)Â Inside, there are hundreds of things someone wants to avoidâholes in the floorboards, nails sticking out of place, glass on the ground. Splintered pews and shards of cement and tripping hazards, there's dirt and dust and cracking sculptures.
The church was more for the cult and not for the townsfolk who lived there. It was to higher-up, powerful olden familiars who people now believe to be gods. The one that was here, was a Elk god called Shui'Lav whose domain rested in desire, determination, and power. Many people worshipped them in effort to get stronger. Didn't work.
There's pots to collect rain and a bird's nest and rocks in every shape and size.
Kage made friends with all of the birds, a BUNCH used to live with them in the church before this really bad lightning storm flooded the top half, made it cave in, and caused them to leave.
There's a box of matches (little rocks spelled to catch what they touch one fire, but can only be used once), a couple torn blankets in a basket, and drawings of old memories: cages and whips and a little golden dragon sketched onto paper. A book to remember and fill with dreams, full of little scribbles and a mess of wild thoughts (Kage had REALLY bad side effects of the memory spell they put on Stray, caused them to have short-term memory and decreasing motor functions). Beads to protect against storms, crystals to ward off the dark, and clothes bundled together. Ropes and knives and things to survive tied together next to a to-go bag and an old, worn down grimoire (they stole it from the cult before Atlas squished or burned the rest of them to death).
Spells left a sharp tang and wards battle the mold in the back (It's really not a great place to live). A bed full of soft things and a container of food hidden behind a false door where the altar used to stand.
It's everything someone needs to survive, to stay hidden.
It's everything one lost witch has. Not for long, fool."
Aaaaaaaand then they all found happy ever after! Not immediately, but soon.
"On the edge of a ghost town, across from an deserted orphanage and a row of burnt, uprooted trees, is a half-collapsed church that had been a refuge to a witch.
It's old but large, with broken windows and fallen pillars half-hidden behind overgrown weeds. Inside, there are hundreds of things someone wants to avoidâholes in the floorboards, nails sticking out of place, glass on the ground. Splintered pews and shards of cement and tripping hazards, there's dirt and dust and cracking sculptures.
There's cut ropes and heavy, fallen doors resting on the floor between two pews.
The aftermath of Stray finding Kage, but not without getting into a trap first.
There's empty baskets, sections clear of dust and debris as if someone had swept it away. There's a little nook with a leftover pillow, beads and crystals left behind, stuck in the dirt or swaying from the breeze. Spells in the wood, mold in the back, containers never to be used again tossed to the side.
Thank the gods our little witch got out of there. It so was not good living conditions for someone so young.
It's everything someone needs to survive, to stay hidden. It's the only thing that a witch used to have but nowânow they have more.
The loved witch leaves the town and the church behind, hand in hand with their familiar, and breathes easily for the first time in years. A portal closes around them, whisper-soft and silky with the scent of magic. They close their eyes, gasping in a lungful of air.
Opening them, they stare out at the house around them, at the coven by their side.
The little golden dragon has found their witch, has completed his hoard.
Finally, they are home. Omg. They're home!!!"
Writing this made me so happy. I hope it could do the same for you, and am so grateful you stuck around to see our little coven's happy ending!
Anyways, uh, how'd you like the book?
