"How and where did you get that?!" Athena exclaims.
The bus driver looks at me with a glare through his mirror. Other people on the bus look at me too.
"Sorry..." I say very uncomfortable.
I put the small paper back into my pocket and decide to wait until I'm home. That does mean I have to push Athena away though. The thing is she hates that, which means that it'll only hurt more...
By the time I'm home I can barely think straight. My head is hurting so bad. And my shoulder is starting to hurt as well. As if it's completely soar.
I open the door and see Cristy asleep on the couch. I'm glad she's okay, with everything that happened to me today the thought of something happening to her crossed my mind.
"Can you quit pushing me away already?!" Athena asks, anger sounding in her normally so calm voice.
"One more moment." I reply and go to my room.
"Okay, you're good."
I lock the door behind me and drop my bags.
"Don't ever do that again." Athena immediately says.
"Sorry, but I kinda didn't have a choice."
"You always have a choice Skyler."
"Then what did you want me to do huh?"
"Oh maybe, I don't know just ask me to shut up?!" she yells.
"Oh yeah sure. People already saw me as insane, talking to myself is for sure going to make it better!" I yell back.
Shit... I didn't mean to say that. It just kind of slipped out. Athena is quiet though.
"What do you mean with 'they already see you as insane'?" she asks after a while.
"Nothing."
"Skyler?" She says a little more severe.
Athena doesn't sound mad anymore. I don't think she ever really was, not truly at least. She was probably just annoyed that I pushed her away, which to be honest you wouldn't like all that much either.
I sigh. I don't wanna tell her.
"Another time. Besides didn't you want to see what was on the little paper?" I ask, trying to change the subject.
"Mmm... Yes, but don't think that I'll forget this." She says.
To make myself more comfortable with talking I take the chair from behind my desk and put it in front of my mirror. I take a seat and take the little note out of my pocket.
"This is it." I say.
"Well obviously."
Athena makes me roll my eyes. So she's still annoyed. Great.
"What is that weird writing?" I ask.
"And here I thought I thaught you something. It's Greek." Athena responds.
"Oh... Can you read it?"
"With ease... If it weren't written backwards. Hold it up will you?"
I hold it up and she reads the words aloud.
"Î ÎºÏ Ïία ÏÎ·Ï ÏοÏÎ¯Î±Ï ÎÏÏεÏε να κάνει μια εÏιλογή. Îα εμÏιÏÏÎµÏ Î¸ÎµÎ¯ ή θα ÏÎÏει; Îν εÏιλÎξει εμÏιÏÏοÏÏνη, θα Î¼Î±Ï ÏÏ Î½Î±Î½ÏήÏει αÏÏιο κάÏÏ Î±ÏÏ Ïην ιÏιά ÏÏο ÏάÏκο. Σε 1 Ï.μ. αιÏμηÏή. Τι εÏιλÎγεÏε."
(disclaimer: we researched the Greek but we don't know if it's a hundred percent correct so sorry if it isn't)
To me it just sounded as if she was just randomly saying some sounds.
"And what does it mean?" I ask.
"It says: 'Lady of wisdom has to make a choice. Will she trust or will she fall? If she chooses trust she shall meet us tomorrow underneath the willow in the park. At 1 AM sharp. What do you choose?'"
"Wait lady of wisdom? Isn't that you know... You?"
Athena makes me nod.
"Is it signed?" she asks.
"No. That stranger put it in my pocket, he must be the one who wants to meet us." I respond.
"You don't know that. He could be a messenger for all we know."
"How did he know who I was though? How did he know you're a part of me?"
"Same way I knew Pan was inside the little kid. Each God has a certain eye color. Whenever they take over the body or voice the color becomes more intense and they get a golden rim around their pupil, as you have noticed. He must've felt my presence inside you. " Athena explains.
"Anyway, you should take some rest. You have to be up late tomorrow."
I would argue with her but I'm too tired.
"I'm gonna check on Cristy firs though."
And with that I get up and leave my room. Athena stays quiet. My headache eases notifying me she left me alone.
I enter the living room and see she hasn't moved since I came home. I grab a blanket and cover her with it.
I drink a glass of water and get myself ready for bed. Once I'm ready I return to my room. I put my glasses on my bedside table and turn of the light, falling asleep.
~Line break~
I wake up when my alarm goes off. I try to find my glasses on my besdside table. I find them and put them on. I get up out off bed and flick on the lights. I'm momentarily blinded. I groan. My headache builds up too. I go the the bathroom and start getting ready for the day. I take off my glasses and exchange them for contacts, splash some water in my face and dry it off with a towel. My headache is starting to get worse. I try to ignore it. I stand in front of my closet and descide I'm wearing black ripped jeans and a 'Levi's' hoodie.
At work I'm not acually allowed to wear jeans. It has to be dresspants. But since my car kinda broke down and Cristy needs hers (and I'm not taking that damn bus again), I don't have work today. Well I do just from home. I drag myself to the kitchen and make some coffee. Once it's done I take it with me to the couch.
Cristy is still laying there. I should probably wake her up, else she might be late for work. I place my cup on the coffeetable and kneel next to Cristy. She's cute when she's asleep. I smile.
"Cris..." I whisper.
She doesn't move. Not even a stir. I slightly stroke her hair out of her face.
"Cris, you have to wake up." I say a little louder.
This time she does wake up. She turns her back to me though. I roll my eyes. Typical Cristy.
"Cristy, you're gonna be late for work if you don't get up now."
"Mmm... Don't remind me Skyler." She responds.
"It seems to me I better do. Now get your ass of the couch and get dressed. I'll make you a coffee in the meantime."
She lifts her head of the couch and looks at me.
"Promise?"
I nod and she gets up. Her hair is messy from sleep and her clothes are dirty.
"Where did you go last night?" Athena asks Cristy.
I mentally slap myself. Of course. She just had to didn't she?
"Urmm.. Just hung out with some friends" She responds.
"Who?" I ask, wondering if she's telling the truth.
Most of our friends are mutual, so why wouldn't she say any names.
"Just some people from high school. Jessica and Lenore."
Cristy avoids my eyes as she speaks.
"Well what did you do?"
"Does it matter?! Jeez, Sky, you sound like my mother." She snaps.
Something about her is off. Maybe I can figur something out when she's at work.
"Okay, okay, sorry for being worried about my best friend." I say, holding up my hands in defence.
Cristy snorts.
"Whatever Skyler. You better have that coffee ready when I get back here." She says as she walks to her room.
I sigh and turn around to take a sip of my own coffee. I take it with me and make Cristy's coffee. When Cristy returns she looks like a whole diffrent person. Her dark brown hair with blonde highlights is put in a neat bun. She's wearing a black pencilskirt with a white button-up and a black blazer. Her laptop bag is hanging over her shoulders.
"Here you go." I say handing her her coffee.
"Thanks!" She says suddenly very cheerful.
Something about her is really off.
"See you tonight!" She says as she walks out the door with her coffee.
I raise my hand, but before I can wave she's already gone. I stand there for a minute, just dazed.
"-ler Skyler!" Athena says, taking me back to the present.
"Are you alright?"
"Y-yeah.. I'm fine." I respond.
I have some breakfast and decide to see if I can find any unusual things in Cristy's room.
I walk inside her room and take a look around. A little messy cause of the laundry randomly spread across the room, but other then that it looks quite neat.
I go to her desk first. I see papers for her job. My eyes scan over the pictures standing on it. One of her and her older brother who lives in Europe. Another of her whole family. And one of me and her visiting Greece 2 summers ago.
"So you two visited Greece?" Athena asks.
"Yeah, two summers ago. We went to Athens as you can see. Beautiful city." I say, knowing very well she'll like this.
"Beautiful city indeed. Haven't been there in a long time."
There is a certain sadness in Athena's voice when she says it. I assume she misses it. The way it used to be.
I don't pry. If she wants me to know she'll tell me. Instead I see if I can find anything out of the ordinary.
I lift up a pile of books and see a note. It says: 'They meet tomorrow night. Be ready. Ares picks you up.'
"Athena? Please tell me you read that." I say.
"I did.." She responds.
"'Ares picks you up..'" I think outloud.
"Do you suppose that THE Ares will come and pick up Cristy?"
"Possible. But I wouldn't see what they have to do with one another. There is no connection between them." Athena says.
"They meet tonight.. Who is they?" I ask in the hope Athena knows what I don't.
"I have some ideas but I'm not sure. Besides it might have happened already. We don't know when she received the note."
"Do you think that is the reason why her clothes were so dirty this morning?"
"I don't know, but it is a possibility." Athena responds.
For some reason I start feeling very uncomfortable. As if something very bad is about to happen. I take the note with me and leave Cristy's room.
